Hi, has anyone had fertility treatment here? What was their experience and success rates? Asking on behalf of a friend who is currently having treatment there for underlining gynaecology issues (fibroids/endometriosis) and she’s been referred here. She’ll be going down the route of donor sperm and possibly donor egg too because of her age (44).

Any feedback from people who have had treatment there would be great.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Has anyone heard anything ?

Sobiaa · 15/06/2020 12:37

Hi ladies,

I rang the hospital this morning. The fertility nurse said they are there but not officially open as of yet. They are waiting for the go ahead.

It’s hard being patient with everything. Hopefully it will be open soon x

Sylva123 · 15/06/2020 20:25

I had a phone consultation on Friday. The consultant told me they're opening in the next couple of weeks (probably July). He said there's a 3-6 month waiting list for new people (like me). So my IVF would probably start October - January.

I will say that I'm a little shocked - had a private consultation today to see what other options there are and they looked at my bloods and picked up on something that hasn't been mentioned at all in the whole time I've been having treatment at Croydon. It's made me lose faith in having treatment there

Sobiaa · 16/06/2020 08:59

I’m really sorry to hear that. They just opened up croydon area for fertility as it was axed in 2017. And there’s going to be loads of new patients coming through now.

I really wish this was easier for all of us to go through but this COVID-19 has really destroyed our life’s.

I wish you the best and I hope things work out with the Priviate clinic. Even im considering it. But I’m going to wait for a few weeks to see if I hear back from them or not.
This journey is very tough.

Sylva123 · 16/06/2020 09:31

I'm one of those Croydon patients! So in a way id always thought I'd have to find the money to pay anyway. Was going to pay them to do it, but then they opened up the funding. Don't have the money at all but will try to make it work! I really hope you get yours started soon and that it is a successful round. They do have really high success rates there.

Sobiaa · 16/06/2020 13:17

I’m so sorry you have to go through this. Thank you. That means a lot. I really hope everything gets sorted for you aswell.

Hello Ladies,
I'm so glad I found this chat. Been through all check ups at Croydon Uni Hosp with Dr Shuba and last August she told us that both me and husband results are fine, but as we can't get pregnant for over 5years of trying the next step should be IVF.
We told her that we need to think about that. Now moved to Reigate Banstead and changed GP who informed us that we could go through NHS.
Called CUH and they said I need a follow up appointment with Dr Shuba as the last one was Aug 2019 and if she agrees then they will put me on the list.
The lady also said not to worry as there are not too many people on that list yet which is surprising as I read somebody was told 3-6 month waitShock
Will have my consultation next Tuesday so fingers crossed Dr Shuba won't change her mind and I get on the list.

Any of you in the same situation?

Will keep you updatedSmile

Sylva123 · 01/07/2020 16:32

@babydust7 I was told 3-6 months to get started when I had my consultation with them 3 weeks ago! Was also told that they'd be in touch within 2 weeks for me to see the nurse to get the ball rolling but nothing yet.... it adds so much stress to everything to have to chase them all the time!
Dr Shuba is so lovely though - I think she's great at her job, but the systems there are a bit chaotic!
Sorry about your situation - 5 years is a long time, and it must have been a hard road to get here - I hope they get you in and get you started soon.

Aim2912 · 27/07/2020 21:04

Hey Guys, did any of you manage to hear from croydon hospital? Have they said how long the waiting list is? I was refered for ivf but still waiting for a booking in/funding application appointment.

Sylva123 · 27/07/2020 21:55

Same - I was told 2 weeks at the start of June, but still haven't heard anything. :-(

BabyDust7 · 27/07/2020 22:30

@Aim2912 @Sylva123

I had the call with Dr Shuba and she told me a nurse will be in touch in a couple of days to discuss an appointment for the completion for the funding papers....

Was waiting until the 21st July, but nothing so gave them a call and a nurse told me that there are many people on the waiting list so just be patient they will get to everyone......

It's very frustrating, but nothing we can do.
Would be nice if they could at least give us an approximate date.

Sylva123 · 27/07/2020 22:50

So frustrating especially because on my original call they insisted there was no waiting list, when of course there would be one after Covid. I just wish their communication was better.
I've been keeping this going at the same time as progressing things privately just in case this comes up but I need to get in touch with them to tell them to take my name off the waiting list because in going private now for definite. At least that'll be one less person in the queue!

Hello Ladies,

Not sure if any of you are still active here, but wanted to let you know that I received a call from the Fertility Centre this Friday and been booked for an appointment to complete all required documents for funding application next Tuesday.

I'm hoping that things will speed up from here ☺️

NFaruk · 30/11/2020 15:52

Hi everyone. I’m going to Croydon hospital for my scans and tests. Apparently FSH is coming pretty high. Dr Shuba doesn’t talk a lot and that is bit frustrating. Losing confidence in the process. How can we change consultants in same hospital? Or what is the process to transfer to another fertility unit? First they said first IVF cycle could be free, now they said if FSH remains high I might have to pay for it. How can I see some other specialist to look into and fix this hormone. Please pour in whatever helpful information you can.

ASHD0 · 08/12/2020 19:50

Really glad I found this thread and some people have shared similar experiences. We're going through treatment with Croydon at the moment. We've obviously experienced big delays because of covid, which is totally understandable. Unfortunately we've had a really bad experience with poor communication from the hospital, details of op not explained by Dr Shuba so had to research this ourselves, and treated really badly at our last appointment, being made to feel like we were a hindrance. We left completely shocked by the way we were treated and in tears. We're even considering going privately because of the way we've been treated even though we can't afford it. Has anyone else had a similar experience or any advice on how to manage?

Lottie9876 · 16/01/2021 09:39

Hi everyone, found this thread and not sure if it’s still active but thought it was worth a try!
Really interesting to read the feedback over the last couple of years. We’re with Croydon and Dr Shuba. I like her but as many of you have said, she doesn’t say much. I had a laparoscopy in Dec, wasn’t really sure what it was for until I was literally about to go into surgery and the surgeon told me he’d been asked to check for a cyst and fibroids. He found and burned some endometriosis. So now we’re onto ivf, just had our funding approved yesterday and have an appointment booked for next steps, told it will take 1.5 hours but have no more details. Can anyone tell me what to expect at this appointment and what the next steps will be after that?

ASHD0 · 16/01/2021 22:31

Hi @lottie9876
We're at about the same stage as you at Croydon. I've got a laproscopy this month (if covid allows) and had our ivf funding approved yesterday too and have the long appointment coming up. My friends who had ivf before said that this is where they make the plan for your ivf journey and explain how it all goes. Hope that helps and wishing you the best of luck with your ivf!

Lottie9876 · 17/01/2021 08:38

Hi ASHD0,
Thanks so much for this and great we’re at the same stage! I just like to know a plan. At my last appointment on 8th Jan Dr Shuba said she thought there’d be a 2-3 month wait so I guess we’ll just have to see after the long appointment what the timeline will actually be. I’m 40 and it’s taken ages to get to this stage, with COVID delays, so just really keen to get started! Wishing you lots of luck too.

Jessica05 · 19/01/2021 13:26

Hi Ashdo, can I please check the bad experience you have with Dr shuba?

ASHD0 · 19/01/2021 14:17

Hi @Jessica05,
Details in my post above. I don't want to share more as it's a very private topic, I'm sure you understand.

Jessica05 · 19/01/2021 14:21

Hi Ashdo, I do understand. It’s a very sensitive topic.

I had my appointment today. Now waiting for my surgery to remove polyps.
Is there anyone else have done surgery? How was it? Did it took long

Jessica05 · 19/01/2021 18:54

Hi lottie, the appointment is about 1hr30. The nurse will explain you the procedure of IVF, and what injection she will put you on. They will give you loads of paperwork to sign at home and bring it back to the next appointment. And will also book you on the next step once you got your period, that is a mini trial of the egg collection not really collection tho to see if your tube is ok or not. If it’s block etc. There will also be blood test.

I’ve already got all the paper work.. but on my appointment today, Doctor has seen some tiny polyps and she has book me on to do a laparoscopy, please tell me what to expect, are they going to do the laparoscopic and polyps removal same day? Do I need to stay overnight at the hospital? Is it general anaesthesia?
