AMH is a good indicator of egg reserve in people without PCOS. In people with PCOS it indicates the severity/number of rubbish follicles and isn’t as good an indicator of egg reserve.
Also it’s odd, studies have shown people with high AMH over respond to some fertility medications by producing big cysts but take higher doses to ovulate. Generally though PCOS patients do quite well in IVF

CharlotteCx · 29/10/2019 19:49

@Chichz it's a lot to get our head around! I get so confused 🙈

@Goingbacktokansascity yeah Iv heard a lot of success stories with pcos. So what is FSH then? Isn't that the same as AMH where it tells you how well your ovaries etc are functioning? Is 7.7 FSH good or bad do you know?

CharlotteCx · 29/10/2019 19:55

Iv got such a dull backache right now 🙈 .. hot water bottle is doing wonders.

Chichz · 29/10/2019 21:01

@Goingbacktokansascity Thank you! That makes sense. Or as much as anything to do with PCOS does.

@CharlotteCx Oooh what's that about do you think? I do love a bit water bottle! X

Chichz · 29/10/2019 21:02

Hot water bottle, sorry!

CharlotteCx · 29/10/2019 21:17

@Chichz I got it last month too on the first day I got a high fertility opk! Weird ... but last month I actually had to go to bed it hurt that much. Tonight's ain't as bad just throbbing but the hot water bottle does wonders for me! X

Chichz · 29/10/2019 21:21

@CharlotteCx Interesting! I'm going to be feeling a fake dull backache now - I'm so psychosomatic Grin x

Emzolive · 29/10/2019 21:54

Hi everyone

It's so good to hear your journeys and know I'm not on my own going through this!

I'm 28 and been ttc 2 years for first baby.

I have very irregular periods (between 35-50days) and blood tests have come back showing I have PCOS although I have no other symptoms.

I had a HSG 3 weeks ago which was quite painful and I had a week of really heavy period-like bleeding for a week afterwards (was in a&e). Doctors are still not sure why that happened... results from test show i am all clear though!

I started my period on Friday night and started taking Clomid (day 2-6) on Sunday so I'm on my 3rd night of taking it! Really hope it does something and sorts out my irregular periods. Nurse said the other day that Ive not been ovulating so feels like a waste of 2 years trying 😭 but at least now hopefully we are on the right track!

I have a scan to see if the Clomid works (50mg) on Wednesday 6th.

Sorry for the long message just so nice to be able to share with people that understand.

CharlotteCx · 29/10/2019 22:10

@Chichz hahah it is true though isn't it, sometimes the aches & pains aren't even there it's just all in our heads. But, this backache is here for sure lol. Managed to dtd tonight before I come to work, so just going dtd every other day from now until next week and hopefully I wouldn't have missed it🤞🏻 ..

What day do you ovulate on with Clomid? X

Chichz · 29/10/2019 22:35

@CharlotteCx Haha I was going to ask of you'd managed to do that! Haha. Well done Wink

@Emzolive welcome! Your journey will be very familiar to lots of people on here so definitely no need to feel alone. Hopefully Clomid will work wonders for you! X

doomkittycleo · 29/10/2019 22:45

@CharlotteCx and @Goingbacktokansascity they don’t routinely do AMH bloods, it’s the next stage of assessment if clomid doesn’t work.

I had to nag my Dr to do it as I needed it for the IVF assessment.

It’s anti mullarian hormone and indicates ovarian reserve (not on its own, but when you look at it alongside FSH and antral follicle count).

Thideboo1 · 30/10/2019 06:27

Ladies can I ask, how long your cycles were on your first cycle of clomid? Mine are normally short but I'm now on day 36 of my 1st cycle of clomid, when do I go to see my gp? Or do I just leave it? X

CharlotteCx · 30/10/2019 06:32

@Chichz was worried oh wasn't guna get back in time but he did bless him! Do you dtd every other day too? Some people do it every day don't they but I just can't, too much effort 🤣

CharlotteCx · 30/10/2019 06:33

@Thideboo1 my cycle last month was 29 days hun, pre Clomid my cycles were anything from 33 to 50+ days x

Thideboo1 · 30/10/2019 06:38

@CharlotteCx Oh wow that's long! Mine are normally 20-24 days sometimes I have 2 in a month, but this is the longest one I've had since having my son 13 years ago, so I just dont know what to do x

CharlotteCx · 30/10/2019 06:41

@Thideboo1 20-24 days! That's so short lol, I have heard that if you have two in a month it's a sign of low progesterone. Has your dr said anything about that? I've not heard of Clomid lengthening your cycle for that long 😕 ... have you been doing opks etc x

Thideboo1 · 30/10/2019 06:47

@CharlotteCx nope to be fair my doctor has been awful, wasted 2 years by sending us up to london for appointments that we didnt need, then apologising to us when he realised that he mocked up, I went to see my consultants nurse the other day (I work in the hospital) and she said oh dont worry your period will come 🤔

Chichz · 30/10/2019 07:15

@Thideboo1 Someone earlier in this thread (who I think may be pregnant now!) said she didn't get a period after her first round of Clomid because she didn't ovulate. After 30 days she just started with the next cycle of Clomid. That's what I'm planning to do this month if I don't get a period with it, because I can have completely absent periods! It depends how involved your doctor is I think. If he/she is monitoring you they may up your dose now. If not, I'd take the next cycle's worth. Maybe someone with more knowledge can help too!!

@CharlotteCx Yea I think we will aim for every other day for the next few days. Seems reasonable! Grin xx

CharlotteCx · 30/10/2019 08:04

@Thideboo1 oh wow 😩 some are really useless I know. My gyno back in June said she wanted to put me straight to IVF. Not even suggesting Clomid, I said no I don't want to jump straight to that when my only issue is that I don't ovulate regularly naturally. I asked to see a different gyno and he was the one that prescribed me Clomid. It's just luck of the draw who u see! Some are just clueless x x

CharlotteCx · 30/10/2019 08:07

Iv had a nightmare morning, I done a sleep in at work and finished at 7am this morning, went outside & it was so frosty so put key in and turned all heaters etc on, run back into work for the toilet.. come back out & my car had locked with key in ignition and heating on full blast!!!! 😩 my grandad has my spare key and lives an hour away from my work. He's on his way should be another half an hour but my cars been running since 7am this morning just sat there .... 🙃🙃🙃 stress!!

Goingbacktokansascity · 30/10/2019 08:16

I’m trying hard to do everything I did to get pregnant with my last one this month. No coffee, minimal sugar, loads of green leafy veg, sex every day, I’m certain by the end of the month I’ll be pregnant or hugely depressed.
Atleast you’ve got a spare key @CharlotteCx my husband locked our keys in the car in the summer while we were on a weekend away and we had to get a locksmith!

CharlotteCx · 30/10/2019 08:20

@Goingbacktokansascity they say that sex every day lowers the sperm count and is best to do every other don't they? I mean I suppose it's personal preference but that's what I've heard. You will get there, just be positive. We're all doing everything in our power to make it happen.

Oh my god I bet you was fuming 😩😩 I felt like hitting myself in the face this morning was so angry with myself what a dopey cow lol.

Goingbacktokansascity · 30/10/2019 13:58

@CharlotteCx yeah I think the advice varies! My consultant advised every day!

Goingbacktokansascity · 30/10/2019 16:18

CD7, scanned myself at work and 2 follicles on right both 10mm and one on left 12mm. Was hoping for bigger but we will see on Saturday if they’ve grown 🤞🏽

CharlotteCx · 30/10/2019 17:08

@Goingbacktokansascity wonderful news!
