@Ginandtonic31 I haven’t but think I might book one for ten weeks if it can be done externally.

Ginandtonic31 · 07/08/2019 18:38

@Cauliflower82 ah yes I'm sure 10 weeks will be abdominal. They could see clearly on my abdominal today. Although I though there might be an arbor something 😂

KittyKatSmile · 07/08/2019 19:18

@Cauliflower82 are you going to have the Harmony test? If so they will do a scan at that point and it's best done between 10 and 11 weeks...

Ginandtonic31 · 07/08/2019 20:27

I've just looked back at my last post and I've no idea at all what it was meant to say. I'm losing it.

Cauliflower82 · 07/08/2019 20:42

@Ginandtonic31 😂 😂 I have no idea either. Baby brain?

@KittyKatSmile Keith, you’re way smarter than me. What’s a harmony test?

Ginandtonic31 · 07/08/2019 20:50

I was thinking of the harmony test but I think I've decided against it now. Think I'm going to wait for the nhs test then if I feel at risk get the harmony.

KittyKatSmile · 08/08/2019 07:38

@Ginandtonic31 I don't think you can do Harmony after the NHS tests because the timing won't work. Harmony needs to be done earlier, something like 10-12 weeks. I'm ancient so I think it's worth doing

@Cauliflower82 Harmony test is Non Invasive Prenatal Testing (NIPT) and basically screens for Down Syndrome and 2 other genetic abnormalities. It will tell you if you're at high risk and if you are, you can then decide whether to have the amniocentesis. It can also tell you the gender from 10 weeks, if that's something you're interested in knowing!

Ginandtonic31 · 08/08/2019 08:14

@KittyKatSmile the one I've seen is up until 40 weeks I believe for the NIPT. But obviously if the NHS tests at 12 weeks flagged something I would do it immediately as time is running out to make decisions www.ultrasound-direct./mobile/babybond-pregnancy-scans/nipt-scan/.

Ginandtonic31 · 08/08/2019 08:33

It's the nhs year that has to be done early.

Ginandtonic31 · 08/08/2019 08:33

*nhs test

Welshpugmomma · 08/08/2019 10:29

I've also been thinking about whether to get the NIPT test but more so because I'm moving end of sept Im worried I will miss out tests, in the us it looks like they do them between 10-¹⁴ weeks but in the UK I think it is later ? I'm so confused with what to decide I think it's because in normal circumstances I wouldn't have considered its just I'm getting worried about transition to the us and not sure how long it will take me to get seen, also it might just be me adding reason to worry over nothing and spending more... Arghh decisions

Ginandtonic31 · 08/08/2019 10:47

@Welshpugmomma in the UK I think it's at your 12 week scan. Also if you're. Moving to the US you will probably have extensive insurance that will cover these sorts of things? And if not they do NIPT over there probably much cheaper!!

KittyKatSmile · 08/08/2019 12:04

I think the Harmony test can only be done up to 14 weeks because after that the nuchal fold behind the spine that they look at to look for excess fluid becomes either opaque or calcified on the scan so they can't judge it as well.

Anyway. I want to know as early as possible and I'm happy to throw a bit more money into this pit of mine.

@Welshpugmomma I didn't know this about the US! Scary and exciting!! Whereabouts are you going?

Welshpugmomma · 08/08/2019 12:07

@Ginandtonic31 everything I've read so far about the cost is terrifying... Even with good medical the cost of giving birth is crazy, yeah I've done a bit of reading this morning which has given me a bit of positivity hopefully it would be picked up at 12 weeks and then I would just have to carry on over there if anything was highlighted. The cost of IVF over there was 10k more than here hence me rushing it here.... Ah well the future is bright !

Ginandtonic31 · 08/08/2019 12:12

@KittyKatSmile that's on the NHS. If it's after this time they Have to do different tests on the NHS. The NIPT is based on blood and can be done at any time. We were advised if we didn't do IVF we could try naturally and have NIPT and test for the 'dodgy' gene in the blood but this was years ago before it really became so widely available.

Welshpugmomma · 08/08/2019 12:14

@KittyKatSmile moving to Miami :) DH has got the apartment and everything sorted now so can't wait to join him, I do worry about missing my family and stuff especially with a baby all being well...my family are very supportive but I know my mum will be hurting that she won't be able to play such a hands on role :(

I blame LinkedIn and the opportunity it has brought us lol, DH was approached nearly 3 years ago by a company and I was dead against it as it was just before our wedding... Then late last year they got back in touch offered too good an opportunity and we felt it would be good for us at least in the near future and then look to come back with a bit more stability to set us up.

Ginandtonic31 · 08/08/2019 12:24

@Welshpugmomma I want to come with you 😫 I love Florida! In fact we will be going October next year with a (hopefully) 6 month old.

Mrbay · 08/08/2019 12:28

WOW, lots to catch up on!

@mouse1234567 - great to have you back. Glad you are feeling a bit more relaxed about it. I don't that'll we'll have our transfers around the same time as I having a natural FET cycle next month (I think) well I will it may damn body with ovulate this month! CD16 and still no sign!

I can't join in on the additional tests, but I dont think you every stop worrying.

@kittykatsmiles - I'm sure you aren't ancient, if you are, do you have a exhibit at a museum? ;) (Sorry, I have a dry sense of humour)

@welshpugmomma - that sounds exciting, I'm sure it'll be a great experience.

KittyKatSmile · 08/08/2019 13:04

@Mrbay yep yep, you can currently come and see me at the Natural History Museum if you like. I'm the wrinkly one with no teeth. Exhibit name: Keithus Maximus.

@Welshpugmomma exciting! Can we all come on holiday??

OP posts:
Welshpugmomma · 08/08/2019 13:42

Yes of course lol if any of you find yourself in Miami let me know I'll be taking any visitors I can :D haha x

CornishMaid1 · 08/08/2019 14:09

@mouse1234567 Glad to hear you are positive and have a wonderful holiday.

I had thought about the NIPT blood test, but I am not going to for the moment. I am going to go with the NHS combined test (the nuchal test on the 12 week ultrasound and blood test) first and if that shows a high risk then I might do the NIPT as a step before an amnio or CVS. I am not sure what the age cut-off is, but apparently if you are older you can get given 'high risk' purely for age and not because of any other signs.

I am 9+3 now and I really thought that I was escaping the morning sickness, but felt quite nauseated this morning. Feeling better now. I was much happier with just the tiredness!

I had my booking appointment on Monday - I only got in then as they had a cancellation. It does feel as though you should get booked in earlier (I would have been at least 10 weeks before my booking appointment if not for the cancellation) as I have had no idea with to expect or what to do when I got my haem bleeding. I now have a 24 hour emergency number for the midwives - would have been much more useful to me two weeks ago!

Not sure whether everywhere else is the same, but I was given a folder of maternity notes that I have to carry around with me for every appointment. I really would have thought they would have computerised things by now!

Hope you are all feeling okay at the moment.

Ginandtonic31 · 08/08/2019 15:27

@CornishMaid1 I've decided exactly the same - NHS first then NIPT as a step in-between. My eggs are from when I was 31 so hoping that's okay.

I still can't get a midwife appointment! They're really struggling to fit me in in time!

And I work in the NHS - computer systems are very behind! The NHS isn't even joined up so one hospital can't always pull all your information from another. There's no central system. The systems are dreadful and lots of things are still paper based.

CornishMaid1 · 08/08/2019 17:32

That's really terrible @Ginandtonic31 . I to be fair was just lucky as they called me in the morning to say they had a cancellation in the afternoon and I just took it. If they are not even sure they are going to get you in in time that is not good.

I can understand the computer systems being behind, but it just seems odd that other than bits they will put in the computer I actually have the only copy of most of my notes and have to carry them around to everyone.

Welshpugmomma · 08/08/2019 18:16

I rang my GP again this afternoon they are shambolic told me they aren't doing first appointment ATM until 16weeks?! I said what about scans and stuff she said yes you will just get given an appointment , it didn't sit right I'd read they normally do blood tests and stuff too! So I rang the local birthing centre who said they would deffo want to see me before 12 week scan and they could fit me in today if I could make it, jeeez I know the NHS is stretched but it does all get a bit ridiculous with receptionist telling you whatever they fancy!anyway not sure what to expect but I'm just leaving now yo head there for a late appointment. So glad I chased them!

Zest11 · 08/08/2019 18:39

@Mrbay Arghhh so frustrating about not ovulating...I waited for a while too. I think it was about day 19 for me in the end (I'm normally day 13/14). Not sure if I will do a FET straight away or wait. What happens when it's done in a natural cycle? Tbh I can't face all the drugs again, especially that crinone gel, it was horrid!
