@AliciaWhiskers it sounds similar. I was Buserelin for 2 weeks, then introduced the oestrogen orally for another two weeks (and continued injections. After 4 weeks my lining was 11mm so I stopped the injections and kept taking the oestrogen tablets and started progesterone pessaries for 5 days, then had transfer and still doing pessaries and oestrogen now. Weaning off from 10 weeks.

I was just very emotional and down on Buserelin but I was struggling mentally anyway and whether I wanted to go ahead with the transfer, whether I was happy with my life etc. I'm still not really stable now but I don't know if the drugs enhanced that. If you're not a bit of a nutter like me you would probably be okay! Most people are.

AliciaWhiskers · 12/08/2019 12:41

@Ginandtonic31 yes that regime sounds about right ( I didn't write any of it down so can't remember exactly). I suspect I'll be just as loopy on the hormones - I tried to restart the contraceptive pill about a year ago and had to stop after 2 days because I just kept bursting into tears. It was awful! DP today asked the clinic if I was likely to have any side effects with the meds and she said no! When we left, I told him that I suspect she wasn't being entirely honest - I'm sure most women are affected in some way taking a cocktail of hormones! I feel the short protocol was the easy option in terms of fewer drugs!

How are you feeling now, in general I mean? I know you were having a hard time. Have you got much support? xx

Ginandtonic31 · 12/08/2019 13:26

@AliciaWhiskers they also told me there's no side effects but I'm sure there is. I'm the same on the pill. It's ruined the last 18 months for me being on it.

I'm not 100% but I'm just hoping eventually I wIll be ok and cling to that.

How are you feeling about long protocol?

I asked the midwife if I will be consultant led and she said yes because of ivf and also PCOS!

AliciaWhiskers · 12/08/2019 13:36

@Ginandtonic31 I didn't realise you had PCOS too. I was under consultant care for my 2 previous pregnancies (I have 2 boys who are 10 and 8). It didn't mean much, to be honest. Just one further appointment I think over what I would have had if I was just midwife led care. Oh, and a glucose tolerance test to check for gestational diabetes which can be more common in women with PCOS.

DP would prefer the natural cycle, I think. Whereas I would dread the long protocol, but as we are unlikely to do any further cycles after this (DP had 4 failed cycles with his ex, and I think he's had enough), I would rather give it everything. Not that there is any difference in success rates, I don't think.

I'm sure you will be ok, lovely. Life is full of ups and downs and the IVF journey is one hell of a rollercoaster. Hang on in there!

Ginandtonic31 · 12/08/2019 13:52

@AliciaWhiskers I think I only have it mildly. But because it's on my record it's counted. She said I might just need to be scanned every 3 weeks after 28 weeks.

So what's the benefit of long over short? Did they say? I don't really know myself but I had success with long!

AliciaWhiskers · 12/08/2019 16:36

@Ginandtonic31 clinic didn't offer the option of a short protocol for FET. It was either long or natural.

Wow, a scan every 3 weeks after 28 weeks sounds like loads. I never had that. At least you would get to see baby a lot!

Zest11 · 13/08/2019 20:53

Hi everyone...

Anyone here know if my (nhs) consultant can get my thyroid levels done and antibodies? I went to my gp last week and asked for the level 1 tests to be done. I got them done this week and as I am most concerned about thyroid, I asked the nurse to check those ones were being tested and apparently they have not been asked for. Hmm I can't get another appt with my GP until mid Sept (by then hopefully all the other results should be in) but have my follow up with my consultant this week. Can the fertility clinic organise this or am I gonna have to wait for the gp? yawn

AliciaWhiskers · 13/08/2019 21:10

Speak to the GP on the phone? If you wanted to pay, places like medichecks do blood testing. I think they often do discounted thyroid testing on Thursdays (thyroid Thursdays...).

Zest11 · 13/08/2019 23:18

I tried that but he's gone off on holiday. Good idea about paying though - didn't think of that!

KittyKatSmile · 13/08/2019 23:34

I have been to a few places for blood tests where I'm not sure I was really referred, just sort of turned up and requested it (and paid). My clinic doesn't do its own blood testing; just sends you to some sort of sausage factory (albeit on Harley Street!) to go and get it done.

Not sure if that's any help. Just a long winded anecdote for you @Zest11 Shock

Zest11 · 14/08/2019 12:26

@KittyKatSmile thank you! Hope everything is good with you :) How are the weights going? It's taken me this long to build my fitness back up after my IVF break! Shock

Ginandtonic31 · 14/08/2019 13:02

@Zest11 I'm jealous I can't get my fitness back up yet 😫it's killing me not doing anything. I'm so fat.

KittyKatSmile · 14/08/2019 13:08

Yes @Zest11 all good with me! Went to 80s aerobics this morning. Always tell them I'm in the family way these days. Today the guy christened me 'Big Chief Baby Momma'. Ha ha. I hope I can carry on doing what I'm doing into second trimester. Not that interested in pregnancy classes (had you guessed?!)

I'm in Leeds for work this week. Going to spin class in the morning I think.

Sending lots of love to you ladies x

@KittyKatSmile I'm in Leeds next week. That's a shame!!

I've been told no exercise for 3 weeks. I'm a week into it 😫

Mrbay · 14/08/2019 17:20

Hi Girls, sorry I haven't posted in a while but I have been having a read through.

@AliciaWhiskers - my clinic are planning to do a natural cycle with my frosties as I have very regular cycles, which at least means no injections.

I hope everyone is still enjoying their progress along their journey.

@Zest11 - my GP did all my blood work and to be fair they are pretty good, they just ask who requested it and are happy with my response of the clinic. So perhaps try again.

Ginandtonic31 · 14/08/2019 18:37

@Zest11 can another doctor at the surgery request it? My GP has a new system where you send them messages online and stuff like that any doctor will action. I don't have a specific GP anymore I just state any can respond.

Zest11 · 14/08/2019 22:21

@Mrbay how were you able to persuade your clinic to do a natural FET? Are the success rates the same? My cycles are very regular too and I think I would prefer it although I have no idea if my clinic even do that.

Thank you for your suggestions about the blood tests. As it happens as I was getting one done today at the hospital, there was a bit of a palava and I had to call my GP practice to send ithe form through again and so I just asked for them to stick the thyroid one on there too which they kindly did.

I have my follow up on Friday and tbh I feel sick thinking about it. I have been okay the last few weeks in ignorant bliss but whenever I think about IVF and making a decision, I just can't. I over analyse everything and wonder if the decision I make will be the right one. To be honest, I've kind of come to the conclusion that implantation is the problem, naturally and with IVF so what's the point of putting myself through more IVF? Hmm

Zest11 · 14/08/2019 22:24

@Ginandtonic31 p.s. I think your GP practice is far more sophisticated that mine. I asked if I was able to see my test results on the app and they were just like no, we don't do that!!

@KittyKatSmile I'm glad you are still able to do your thing at the gym. Good for you! My understanding is to just keep on going until your body tells you otherwise. Do the instructors tell you ways to adapt the exercises or is there no need for that this early?

KittyKatSmile · 14/08/2019 23:01

Hey @Zest11. Sorry your head is a bit all over the place. Yeah the instructors are generally quite good at altering the exercises; mainly just the sit ups and then say 'jump if you want to' and 'can you do a squat?' Not sure what happens in the second trimester...

Ginandtonic31 · 14/08/2019 23:02

@Zest11 I wouldn't necessarily think it is. My mum is under the same surgery and added the app and it said she had given birth once and had my brothers date and year but the month I was born 😂 so I think someone got confused somewhere. Also mine can't seem to make out what they mean by an annual diabetes check!

I know what you mean about being okay until you think of IVF. I was the same. Talk to the consultant about them not implanting. There's things they can do to help when they find out what is preventing it, like blood thinners and things.

Mrbay · 14/08/2019 23:08

@zest11 - I didn't have to as they suggested it, it's their preferred method for a frozen transfer. But they just need to check that my bloods come back ok.
Unfortunately there are still some answers they don't have but you just have to have faith in the consultant as they really want to get you pregnant!

Zest11 · 14/08/2019 23:19

@KittyKatSmile That's good. Now...I have a question..do you/are you allowed to jump? Most of the classes I go to involve jumping and I wonder if I would still be able to do them...like jumping lunges (OK I can manage like 5 before I collapse Grin )

@Ginandtonic31 haha yes it sounds like they got confused there. Hahaha! Yes, I will speak to the consultant- that is reassuring there are things they can do. Am also seeing the counsellor next week or the week after...did she help you at all?

@Mrbay oh that's interesting it's their preferred way. What bloods do you have to get done? Yes...I know I need to have a bit of faith...I guess their jobs do partly at least depend on how good they are!

KittyKatSmile · 15/08/2019 08:47

@Zest11 I don't really know the official line on jumping. I avoided it very early on as I thought it might prevent Cutie from implanting or then turn her into a milkshake but I'm back to doing some jumping now.

Mrbay · 15/08/2019 14:20

@zest11 - a day21 test to check my hormone levels, but good point I am going to check if they need anything else at the same time! Yep, its hard when you have little control of the outcome but go in your appointment with yours question and make sure you get a valid answer. Good luck!

Cauliflower82 · 15/08/2019 18:17

Does anyone know if we can contact the nhs ivf counsellor after treatment has been successful even if you never spoke to them before or during the ivf process? Thank you.
