Hi all,

Am about to start my Clomid journey and reading through the 2018 Clomid thread this is what I'm looking for. It's extremely difficult to talk about the issues with people who don't actually understand them so if anyone wants to join in the more the merrier!

I'm 30
TTC #1
Cycle #?? Been trying for 5 years
Have mild Prolactinoma
Taking daily 1mg Bromocriptine for tumour
Just been given 3 months of Clomid
Am also slightly overweight but have never ovulated.

Oh no @Pinktruffle, sorry to hear that.

fulanigirl · 23/06/2019 20:02

@Pinktruffle sorry to hear that. There is always next month, it might be it x

Pinktruffle · 23/06/2019 22:19

I'm a bit embarrassed at how badly I'm handling all this. I sobbed in my husbands arms for half an hour just because my period started. Infertility is really driving me crazy

Marmite83 · 24/06/2019 00:18

You're definitely not alone there @Pinktruffle. Every cycle I convince myself that if af appears I will suck it up and take it better than previously. Then every time I end up balling my eyes out. Hope you're feeling a little better in the morning.

Pinktruffle · 24/06/2019 10:04

Thanks @marmite83, I am a little better today but still feeling desperate overall. It's just all getting so hard. My cousin having a baby on my due date didn't help, she is obviously over the moon and keeps sharing photos on Facebook and it's like a knife in my heart. I've had to block her.....

Not sure how I block all the pregnant people at work though 🙈

doomkittycleo · 24/06/2019 10:21

I took a test this morning 12dpo and it was negative. I know it’s not over till af arrives, but I’m so frustrated at my weird cycles and lack of monitoring.

DP and I have agreed to book a consultation with the private clinic, I’ve called care fertility and they can fit me in for a consultation this Friday (day after af is due). I’m also trying to contact the Hewitt centre in Liverpool to compare what they can offer and prices etc.

How do you decide on which private clinic to go with, both are between 45 minutes and an hour drive away.

Marmite83 · 24/06/2019 11:11

Are you going to the clinic for IVF or for monitoring whilst on Clomid @doomkittycleo? I struggled to decide which clinic to go with, especially as I am near London so there are loads to choose from. I spent a lot of time trying to compare prices but there are quite a few unknowns for IVF until you start treatment so that makes it hard. I'd imagine it's a little easier to compare costs for Clomid monitoring. In the end I went to an open evening at a clinic that had reasonable pricing (in comparison to other London clinics) and got a good feel about the clinic while I was there. If it's IVF you're looking at then the HFEA website is a good starting point as it lists all clinics and their ratings.

Pinktruffle · 24/06/2019 13:06

I've booked a private ultrasound appointment for scans this round. They said they usually book the for Day 14 (ovulation day) but I know my ovulation is usually later than that so I've booked for Day 17 (the day I ovulated this month) but I'm wondering if maybe I should have booked it for earlier as I don't want to miss it. Can they see the egg whens its released or just the follicle? I'm wondering if I'm better to do it a day or 2 beforehand so they cam see if there is a follicle big enough to release? I'd rather know that than miss it and think I've not ovulated

Marmite83 · 24/06/2019 14:03

I had a scan at a private clinic a few months ago. I was about 5 DPO and she could see the follicle that had released an egg but I think the eggs are far too small for them to see. I guess it depends on your reason for booking the scan. If it's because you want to know when you're likely to ovulate then it might be better to move it forward a day or two to make sure you don't miss it.

doomkittycleo · 24/06/2019 16:15

Thanks all, I’ve booked in for Friday with Care Fertilty for an initial consultation and they’ve said they’ll do a scan of my uterus and ovaries on the day too.

I’m going to the private clinic to get monitored as my cycles have gone really squiffy on clomid and the nhs clinic won’t scan and won’t review until September.

I’m hoping it doesn’t get to the ivf stage. I just want to know what’s going on.

Af is due Thursday, so if by some miracle I get my bfp then we can cancel the appointment, but at least by having my appointment on Friday, I’ll see the Dr in time for starting my next round of clomid.

Now I need to see if I can get my nhs records to share with the private clinic. Does anyone have any experience of doing this?

Pinktruffle · 24/06/2019 16:34

Ahh that's good to know @marmite83, I may move it to the day before then. I want it to a) make sure I'm ovulating and b) to help us pinpoint when to BD. We BD regularly to be fair but just need to make sure I'm actually releasing an egg so if they can still see the follicle that will way lay my fears a bit.

Think we are in a similar boat @doomkittycleo, I've gone to an ultrasound clinic though rather than a Feritlity Clinic. I didn't think of checking those out to be honest. I'll see how this appointment goes and then maybe look at further monitoring with a Fertility Clinic

Marmite83 · 24/06/2019 16:58

@doomkittycleo I had to get copies of all of my various fertility test results for the IVF consultation. I took AMH, FSH, Rubella, cervial smear and my DHs semen analysis. I also took the hospital discharge notes from my laparoscopy in Jan so he could see what had actually been done. He said the AMH, smear. semen analysis and hospital notes were the important ones. That was for IVF though. If you ring your GP they should be able to print them off for you to go and collect. May take a couple of days though so I'd suggest contacting them as soon as you can

doomkittycleo · 24/06/2019 18:06

@Pinktruffle, there are no private ultrasound clinics near me that offer follicle scans (only pregnancy scans).

@Marmite83 I phoned the gynaecology outpatients department this afternoon, but the medical secretary had gone home for the day, so I’ve been told to call back tomorrow. I never thought of asking GP, although we did get them to print off DP’s Semen analysis whilst we were there.

I know I have had x3 of the MMR vaccine (had a booster at sixth form but for some reason that was never sent to GP and my school nursing records have now been archived). Because we had no record of my second dose my previous employer (NHS trust made me have another one). So at least that’s my Rubella immunity sorted (although will need to get copies of these).

I’ll ring the GP tomorrow about that and the smear. They will probably have access to the AMH and FSH tests, but I don’t think they’ve been repeated since DD was born. I’m sure the GP only did day 21 progesterone. I’ll find out tomorrow anyway.

AF due on sat

Marmite83 · 24/06/2019 22:37

Welcome @Roxy, I'm pretty sure there are some others on Letrozole on here too.

Jemstar33 · 24/06/2019 23:37

Hi all

It’s been lovely to read through the full post and see how much you’re supporting each other. And two BFP’s!!

Hope it’s ok to join, I’ve just finished my first cycle of 50mg clomid.

Age: 32
TTC #1
18 months

Had a lap 3 years ago for endo. Cycles are all over the placesometimes then regular as clockwork the next 🤷🏻‍♀️

AF was 20 days late on my last cycle but I’d just moved house and was exhausted so I’ve put it down to that. AF lasted about 3 days. I took my first clomid on day 3.

Talking of babies everywhere, last year 4 of my friends got pregnant, some with their second and I literally cried. In front of them Smile I was in a really bad place but I’m feeling good now.

I think I was really naive last year, I literally just thought you have sex and get pregnant - how wrong was I! Now I’m trying to chill out about everything and trying to relax...sort of.

@doomkittycleo I’m not being monitored either I’m just going to give this a go and see how I get on. You were lucky cycle 3 last time so fingers crossed for you on your 3rd this time.

Good luck everyone.

doomkittycleo · 25/06/2019 07:29

@Jemstar33 thanks Hun, good luck to you too. I’m actually going into my fifth month of clomid as of Thursday, that’s why I’m going private. I figure I need monitoring now as it’s clearly not that straight forward this time round.

This is definitely a lovely supportive group and we all get the frustrations of being surrounded by pregnant people.

I actually blame the health and education device for drumming it into us since we hit puberty that all unprotected sex would lead to pregnancy.

I know they are trying to prevent unwanted pregnancies, but I don’t recall infertility ever being discussed and seeing as it’s actually a lot more common that you think I think that’s wrong,

Jemstar33 · 25/06/2019 07:53

Sorry I must have missed a few months, didn’t realise it was your fifth month. Have you upped the clomid dosage?

I don’t blame you for going private it’s defo something I’m considering. I haven’t had the dye yet tho so maybe that’s next step.

I agree totally on sex education, for my generation anyway. But I think it’ll change soon as people are ‘waiting till they’re older now and putting a strain on the NHS’ they were the words of my nurse!!! She even told me to be ‘getting on with it’ I was 26 at the time, no partner, not that she even asked.

I’ve always wanted to be a mum but having the right partner Is most important surely.

Going to start opk from tomorrow, prob a bit too early but I’ll still give it a go.

doomkittycleo · 25/06/2019 08:58

@Jemmstar33, I’ll be starting month 5 on Thursday assuming af arrives (pretty sure she will as I got a bfn again today at 13dpo).

I’m the same generation as you (I’m also 32). This will be my second child when I finally get my bfp). So yeah we probably had the same rubbish sex education program.

I also hate the whole women waiting till they’re older, complaint. I have been with DP since I was 24 (he’s 15 years older than me), but it still took 4 years to convince him that we were ready to TTC, then it took 2 years to conceive DD1 and we’ve been TTC DC2 for 26 months.

I think very few people plan to wait this long to TTC, it’s circumstances beyond our control.

doomkittycleo · 25/06/2019 08:59

@Jemstar33 and yeah my dose increased to 100mg this last cycle.

Pinktruffle · 25/06/2019 09:58

I met my husband when I was 33, we were m I'm tried by the time I was 34 and started TTC straight away, I'm 36 now. I would have loved to have had a baby earlier in life but as a species, we haven't mastered A-sexual reproduction so it wasn't to be. I hate it when the medical profession say 'people are waiting till later', I didnt really have a choice!

Some good news, the hospital finally called back and said my blood tests shows I'm ovulating :) So timing and I think stress are our 2 big factors I think. I break up from work for the 6 week holidays so hopefully that will help ease the stress

Jemstar33 · 25/06/2019 10:52

@doomkittycleo it could still happen this cycle, keeping everything crossed for you 🤞🏽

Pinktruffle- it’s so frustrating isn’t it. It isn’t a choice for many people.

That’s great news, the holidays will really do you good and help you relax.

Sorry to ask you to repeat, what’s your story. Are you ok clomid too?

I didn’t have any symptoms really, just one night of hot flushes and a bit of a rash but I think that started before I was taking them

doomkittycleo · 25/06/2019 12:53

@Marmite83 wtaf, I’ve just spoken to the medical secretary at my nhs clinic and they said my AMH levels have never been tested (not even first time round). I knew they hadn’t done much, but that’s nuts. Especially as my grandmother went through early menopause at 35.

doomkittycleo · 25/06/2019 13:39

Omg I’ve recieved my results from the nhs clinic and I’m really frustrated.

First, the results from my hycosy in 2016 say they are indicative of PCOS (I was never told this), my progesterone level was 51 in January 2019 (normal range is apparently 17.8-32), no one has told me if this is a good thing or a bad thing.

Samatha92 · 25/06/2019 16:11

I’m on CD 15. Ovulation rest still aren’t coming up with a second line never mind a positive one 😩
