Had all the tests and finally got the go-ahead today (a prescription and letter in the post!) So bit of a surprise. Will be starting on CD2 in about 4 days time hopefully.

@HmBuddy hi, so sorry to hear this( nhs is very slow and indifferent. Our first appointment was june, then in July we were reffered to fertility. Only in Novemeber we were given the treatment which we could only start in Feb this year. And its Pril now and we had just one cycle with nhs, which would have resulted in few in private, because they regulate the cycle. So when we come back from Easter holidays, we go private. I have already bought all the medication given by them, including an ovulation trigger shot. As even with a good size follicle i dont ovulate.

Eleonor15 · 25/04/2019 12:50

@HmBuddy also forgot to mention, if you have financial opportunity to go private, go. It will save a lot of time and nerves. It is really hard with nhs.

HmBuddy · 25/04/2019 13:26

Thanks @eleonor15. Do you mind me asking roughly how much the medication cost? My folks said they would help but I wouldn't expect them to foot the whole bill so need to see what we can afford

Eleonor15 · 25/04/2019 13:35

@HmBuddy so we were given 6 months on clomid with nhs. With private i will pay for clomid pills (or letrozole if clomid will not be effective, plus trigger shot). The prescription i was given with private for a month cost us roughly 75£. We bought them at boots. Plus i will have to do 1 scan on cd 2, a scan on cd 8 or 9, then scan and blood test on cd 21. Each scan is 150, blood test - cant tell as uave not done yet. My math shows it will cost us min 600£ a month via private. Depends on how many scans i would need.

However i must be honest i dont think i will do IVF privately. It is expensive. I am hoping everything will work on clomid /letrozole, and if not, will go back to nhs for ivf.

Hi.
I am 37 years old and TTC first baby. I have taken my first round of Clomid and I also had an injection to help OV after an internal scan showed that my ovaries were ready to release an egg, this was done 6 days ago. I am now experiencing sudden sharp pains down below and in the area of my ovaries, the pain is so sudden and sharp that it takes my breath away. Is this normal? Is there a reason for it? It feels like period pain but my period isn’t due yet.

Thank you Smile

Hoping1 · 02/05/2019 22:19

Hayz777 when i was on clomid i was getting sharp pains in side and down there it was because i was so sensitive to it and producing big foliciles and obvulating which had never happened before i took paracetamol to help but if you get really worried about it ring hospital and tell them

Google "is oily skin a sign of pregnancy"
Looks down at sunburnt chest. No it's a sign of a fucking heatwave 😒🤦🏻‍♀️ x

Hi all, I've just been given clomid, after a LONG wait. I was thrilled until my gp told me he wasn't happy to issue it. He has frightened the life out of me, saying it could cause Ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome. He said it's very dangerous and can be fatal. My specialist wouldn't give me it until i met strict rules he had set out. It took me two years to get the drug and i thought i could finally see a light at the end of tge tunnel, until my gp scared me. Can anyone tell me if he is being a little extreme or it's me being naive xx

Hi I am new to this website but going through the same as you all.
I am 31 and trying for our first baby! Been having tests done through fertility clinic and basically said I don’t ovulate and would need clomid to help. So my problem is I am stuck in a cycle of weight loss and PCOS my BMI is 32 and needs to be 30 to get treatment through the NHS.
I am so sick of this cycle and lost 3 stone already and feel stuck. I have been looking at private clinics who treat with a BMI of below 35. I have come across a clinic in Sheffield and just wondering if anyone has any advice or experience going through private after NHS.

Thanks

Hello new to the site.

I'm on my 2nd cycle with clomid. 25mg taken cyc days 5-10. My first cycle with clomid. Initially I just had some minor dizziness but about after about 3 days I started to get minor flu like symptoms that progressively worsened as I took it. The worse days being the two after my last dose. It wasn't until around two weeks after the last dose that I felt fully recovered.

This 2nd cycle was even worse. The day after my first dose I woke up feeling awful and weak. I quit taking it after cyc day 3 because by then I couldn't stand or take more than a couple steps without feeling like I would collapse. Not from dizziness just complete lack of strength. It wasn't until about 3 days after that I recovered enough navigate around the house without holding onto something, or do basic things like sit and fold laundry or basic cooking (like boil a pot of water basic), much less go to work. I had some of what seems to be the standard side effects bloating, ovarian cramps, nausea, breast tenderness but they all seemed really minor.

Do the sided effects eventually get less intense over multiple cycles? I couldn't function at all this past week. I'm just at a loss. Every time we seem to make some progress, it's like we get knocked down three steps.

confused107 · 07/10/2019 12:08

@BluMossy I didn't want to read and run, but I'm sorry I have no advise as I didn't experience any symptoms like that at all. They sound pretty debilitating and not too common though, so I would get in contact with whoever prescribed them to you (clinic or GP) and seek their advise. Best of luck with it xx

BluMossy · 09/10/2019 04:58

@Rachaelw88
Below are some of the article that I came across when researching clomid, they might help you. I was trying to find natural alternatives.

Black Cohosh came up in several articles. You have to be careful when in your cycle you take it, if you take it after ovulation and you did by chance conceive it can cause miscarriage. It sounds like it can also have various drug interactions, so you can’t take it with some medications.

Vitex Chaste Tree Berry is also one that came up for helping ovulation and PCOS.

“Black Cohosh Stimulates Ovulation Induction in Women with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS)”
This is a summary of a small study comparing the effectiveness Black Cohosh to Clomid. In the study they gave participants either 40 mg/day of black cohosh for 10 days (cyc day 2-11) or 100 mg/day of clomiphene for 5 days. Over 3 successive cycles.
The study showed that black cohosh induced ovulation in women with PCOS and had fewer adverse effects than Clomid, but additional larger studies are needed to determine the optimal dose of black cohosh and to confirm the findings.

BluMossy · 09/10/2019 19:39

@Fingerscrossed19 my doctor mentioned some risk of Ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome, among other potential side effects, with individuals taking higher dosages of Clomid. He didn't seem particularly concerned about it in my case. But my dosage 25mg is only half the starting dosage commonly prescribed. I'm apparently overly sensitive to it though because it wiped me out when I took. I couldn't do anything for several days. There are alternative prescription drugs to Clomid, I haven't looked into them to see if they have the same risks.

You might talk to your GP about Black Cohosh, it's an herbal supplement. I keep coming across in my research. It looks like a promising alternative to Clomid with fewer potential side effects and that if used in conjunction with Clomid it seems to reduce the side effects of Clomid making it more effective. I haven't found any definitive information on the dosage though ranges from 40mg-200mg daily. Only taken cycle days 2-12.

Hey guys!
So just stumbled across this forum which is great as I’ve been reading some of the comments and it’s put me at ease.
I’m 31 nearly 32 , TTC 18months. 4th cycle of clomid (prescribed for non ovulation).
I don’t really get many side effects apart from the bloating around ovulation time and the pain ( which I think is a good pain if that makes sense Grin) but does anyone else experience pain after ovulation? So for 3 days my right side I had a dull ache and from 4DPO I’ve just had subtle stomach cramps. I honestly don’t think this is a sign of anything I’m just curious to see if anyone else experiences this. I also do experience nausea closer to the time of AF.
Also is anyone tracking their temperature? X

Hey I'm new, got diagnosed with pcos 3 months ago and have been referred to fertility. I'm wondering how long from consultation it takes to get medication after all tests.

Niki05 · 16/12/2019 19:25

Hey I have been referred to fertility as I have pcos and cycles lasting over 3 months. I am just wondering how long from first consultation does it take to recieve clomid?

Cat1991 · 29/12/2019 13:47

Hey.
So it may differ from my experience but we went to the consultant and my partner had to do his test 2 weeks prior to that so they had the results there and then and I had to book in for a blood test for day 21 of the cycle.I had to wait 3 months for a hycosy but the morning of that the consultant gave me the results along with a prescription for clomid and off we went. X

Niki05 · 30/12/2019 00:30

Hi Cat, thank you for getting back to me, I was aware it can take long enough x

It's actually cheap ,for just five pills a month ,I probably paid less than 10 dollars for my first cycle.I found cvs has it cheaper than walmart....

Mariasmom02 · 11/10/2020 23:07

Hi there!! Has anyone experienced A consecutive positive opk For 16 days? I used the digital smiley face kind and got a static smiley face every day.
I know it can give a false positive if taken too soon after your last pill so I waited 3 days to start.

I’m on cycle day 49 now, no period negative hpt and confused.
