I feel for you with ttc and no luck!..

We've been trying since dec 2015 although I did fal pregnant as soon as I stopped taking my pill in December unfortunately it ended in miscarriage.

Since then my periods have been so irregular every 3 months eventually I had a scan and they found it was pcos even thou I've had scans before and nothing showed up ..

I've been put on metformin been on it nearly a month now.. started with 1 tablet a day then worked up to 2 tablets then tmo
I go onto 3 tablets a day so 1500mg of metformin in total.
AF came on Sunday just gone after 3 months so I'm not to sure if the tablet helped with this or wether it was down to the fact it had been 3 months since my last period!
I am hoping these work and help but if not in Feb I go back and they put me on Clomid to actually make me ovulate. It's a long process and I feel for you just take everyday as it comes and try not to stress I no it's horrible and hard but our time is coming soon I promise xxx

Pickle0 · 04/01/2018 21:15

Confusion, I am on 500mg 3 x a day morning lunch & dinner.

Alice, thank you for your kind words, keep me updated with how you get on. Xx

Hi Ladies, I hope it's OK if I join in on this thread? DP and have been TTC #1 for 14
Months and I was diagnosed with PCOS 5 months ago and I could really do with some support from other ladies going through the same thing!

I'm on metformin which has helped general PCOS symptoms but has not regulated my cycle and so I also take norethistone to bring on a period as I am also on clomid. So far 50 and 100 doses of clomid have had no impact on follicle growth at all, and I am just waiting to start my next round with 150 of clomid before the weekly scans commence for another month!

I find that some days I am fine with all of this, but other days it's really hard..each month I get a renewed sense of hope and then it gets smashed when I get told there's still no follicle growth! I am currently trying not to worry too much about what the next steps will be if the next increase of clomid doesn't work as I know 150 is usually the highest dose the Dr's will consider.

Any advice, or like-minded stories would be very gratefully received!!

Welcome Mermaid I haven't any experience of Clomid yet but I completely agree with your comments about how you feel about things.

Sunny1984 · 05/01/2018 10:47

Welcome Mermaid!

Happy New Year to everyone how are you all doing? Sorry I’ve been a bit AWOL as I’ve just been trying to not think about anything TTC over Christmas.

I can’t actually believe that I’m writing this but I think my last and final round of Clomid has worked!!!

Amazing news Sunny congratulations. That has really made me smile. I bet you couldn't believe your eyes.

Jade94 · 05/01/2018 11:13

Congratulations sunny.
Hope you don't mind me joining. I was told I had pcos just before last Xmas after after 18 months of constant spotting after ds2. They referred me to a gynaecoligist. Who basically shrugged me off before I'm thin. Always struggled to put weight on. I was prescribed a pill which stopped the bleeding and it lasted till end of August and now it's all started up again. Every 4 days I have 5 days of spotting I went back to the doctors have slowly started gaining weight covered in acne which never had before and been told the only option of contraception I have now is the coil which I've never really fancied.
Sorry for the long post but I'm so confused about it all cause nothing ever really gets explained properly at the doctors I constantly have stomach cramps and period pains but now they've stopped the pill I was on before and everyone I go back all's I get off them is well try this first and then that and I'm not actually finding out how bad the pcos is I know both are full from the last scan and they do come down a tube and I have 1 on my cervix. Any advice would be much appreciated :)

Alicejj8x · 05/01/2018 11:47

Congrats sunny!!!

Sunny1984 · 05/01/2018 14:45

Thank you!
I don’t actually believe it still! I only did a test as I wanted to stop my progesterone pessaries which make me feel shite. I’ve been a few days late every month while on them so couldn’t believe the tests!!

Congrats Sunny! That's lovely news!.. Hugs to you Jade.. I know how frustrating going through the PCOS diagnosis is.. It really highlighted to me how little the medical profession really know about the female reproductive system.. I lost count of how many doctors were basically shrugging thier shoulders at me when I asked what caused the PCOS and what can I do to help it given I am a healthy weight for my age and height, and am very active already... There was also very little support for the mental impact of the diagnosis.. Now I am on clomid the nurses and Dr's who see me regularly for my scans are much better at asking 'are you ok', 'is there anything you don' t understand'.. But PCOS just seems to baffle them! *

Alicejj8x · 07/01/2018 10:45

Hey guys so I've been on metformin since 6th dec 2017..
Friday 5th jan I had to up to 3 tablets a day so 1500mg
Since then I'm feeling like my appetite has completely gone I'm not hungry what so ever and when I eat I get so full I also feel a little sick in the mornings and just not 100% also super tired ! Has anyone else had these sign effects from the tablets?

Pickle0 · 07/01/2018 22:01

Hi Alice, I am on METFORMIN and have had the same side effects but just worked through them!! I am on month 3 now and my period has paid me a visit Grin!!!! I have experienced the decreased appetite and feeling sick also. Sounds normal. Xx

MermaidTail7 · 07/01/2018 22:19

Hi Alice, another one here to say your symptoms sound normal.. I've been on Metformin since August 2017 and whilst I didn't get nausea, I did, and still do get the reduced appetite (no bad thing as I love my food and I have been putting on weight much quicker since coming off the contraceptive pill and having the previously hidden PCOS diagnosed). What I would say is that I was originally given the standard release Metformin and I had horrendous stomach/digestive trouble with it, even after two months I was having to literally run out of work meetings to the bathroom with minutes notice.. I eventually gave up trying to cope with it and my specialist put me on slow release metformin... All the 'good' benefits of Metformin, without the dehabilitating cramps and having to always be withing running distance of a bathroom. If yuu struggle with continuing side affects, you could ask about slow release metformin?

Alicejj8x · 08/01/2018 07:10

Thank you for the messages :)
I'm
Glad that AF paid you a visit! That's great news and shows the tablets are working? How irregular are your cycles?

Oh that's not good at all you have to run out to go to the toilet!! I haven't got that side effect ( not yet anyway :/) I've had the odd cramps here and there and just my tummy feeling not right but haven't had to rush to the loo.
I am hoping that the tiredness will go soon and the sickness feeling I only started 3 tablets a day on the Friday just gone so I guess I've got to give my body a chance to get used to the upped dosage!
Clomid gets prescribed in Feb so hopefully then I can get back on track with TTC but I shall still try on the metformin too

SLady · 08/01/2018 09:19

OMG just seen this sunny congratulations I am so so happy for you!!! Get me a cup and syringe!!! Haha. Fantastic news!! I am so thrilled for you!!

Today is a good day. I got my cd21 progesterone results today and it was 59!! So 150mg is definitely making me ovulate...finally!!! I'm CD30 today so patiently waiting to see if AF arrives (I usually have a 32 day cycle). This month has been a really bad month for eating and drinking though 🙈 I gave myself the month off from worrying and thinking about TTC. If I was 59 on cd21 does that mean I ovulated close to cd14?

MermaidTail7 · 08/01/2018 10:32

SLady, congrats on the good results.. I'm due to start on the same dose of clomid as you this month, so it's great to hear of it working.. I was giving up hope after no success with the 50mg and 100 mg doses!

SLady · 08/01/2018 10:54

Hi Mermaidtail fingers crossed you're the same. I'm unmonitored but had blood tests and both with 50mg and 100mg I had less than 1 progesterone at cd21 so I doubt I was growing any follies at all either, which was so disheartening to be told it was having no effect. I had completely given up with Clomid too I just couldn't see how the 150mg would work but it has! I had to do two rounds of each dose so I'm actually on my 6th round now but I can carry on Clomid for a few more months now we know it's working. If the 150mg had showed no ovulation this month then I was going to be moved on to injectables which are much stronger than Clomid so I think that would have done the trick! So try not to lose hope just yet (I know it's easier said than done)

Sunny1984 · 09/01/2018 08:24

Thank you so much SLady I still don’t believe it! And really can’t believe that a bloody cup and syringe worked 🙈 just hoping it sticks around but enjoying while it does!

Amazing about your day 21 result sounds like you could have ovulated on day 14, any sign of AF? Will you test or sit tight?
I was so convinced I wasn’t I waited and then realised I was 5 days late!! This month I hadn’t given it a thought and over Xmas had everything and drank as much as I liked!! Even this week I was so sure we had a bottle of champagne Wednesday as we’d both worked New Year Eve, Rare steak, Pate!! Then I was out in London Thursday 😱

Alice I really struggled with the 1500 mg dose and felt like crap constantly my Gp switched me to modified release and I was much better!

OP posts:
SLady · 09/01/2018 09:01

I'm honestly so happy for you sunny just in the nick of time too!! I can't believe it worked either haha! So looking back, did you have any symptoms or did you just completely think it hadn't worked?!

I've had a similar month to you. There were just so many celebrations and I didn't want to feel guilty plus I wasn't sure if I was even ovulating. I drunk all the prosecco and ate all the pate. Plus when you've been doing it so long you kind of just give up and think it will never work anyway so what's the point in being good. It really took the pressure off and we enjoyed the festive period and my birthday so I'm glad we did it.

I'm not going to test, for the first time I know I've definitely ovulated so I'm just gonna sit tight. I'm due on on Thursday I think. I've never had a cycle shorter than 32 days and both of my natural AFs on Clomid have been 32 so that's what I'm counting it as. CD31 today and crossing my fingers although I have been getting some cramps so I reckon she's on her way!

Hoping it won't be long until I follow in your footsteps sunny!

HollyWollyDooDah · 09/01/2018 13:14

Anyone on 5mg folic acid?
Were your bleeds different?
I've just started af bang on time (unusual) and it's different, only thing I've added in is the folic acid
It's very bright red with lots of little clots, much more sticky (for want of a better word) than usual
I'm also waiting for call back from the fertility nurses for my blood results - feel like I've got none left lol
I had day 14,21,23,25,29 done

SLady · 09/01/2018 13:52

I don't think folic acid has any effect on periods holly...just one of the joys of having pcos, periods are unpredictable. That's alot of bloods. I only had cd2-5 and cd21 I'm guessing they want to really double check whether you're ovulating? Sounds excessive otherwise

intrigued2018 · 09/01/2018 14:09

Massively congratulations Sunny!!! Amazing news.

HollyWollyDooDah · 09/01/2018 14:11

Was a nightmare as have to travel for 45 mins to get them done
Just spoken to fertility nurse
Levels are in my boots - no egg growth and no ovulation
Progesterone less than 1 on all results
Other hormone (oestrogen I think) didn't go above 163 (should be 100 rising up to 1100 to show egg growth
Going to see her next week
Feel deflated
