@AmyL88 - I can't believe how rubbish the nhs can be at funding at times! I am sure we will end up going down the ivf route as well but will see what they say. Was your Clomid on the nhs? Was that via a fertility clinic? I'm worrying what to tell work when I have all my appts. X

AmyL88 · 23/05/2018 09:49

@intrigued2018 I know, but its OK as i know i am extremely lucky to have one gorgeous little boy so its only fair the NHS fund couples with no children. I was seen by the consultant at the fertility clinic on the NHS but i paid for my clomid. IVF just seems like such a big step for us, i'm not ready to accept it yet. The fertility clinic were great with appts, i asked for ones after 4pm so it was a little easier with work etc. It can get quite alot with the scans too. I am on my 3rd day of 'high' fertility on the CB OPKS, not sure if i will get my peak! Hmm

Hi all.
It’s been a while since I posted on this thread but I see there’s still some familiar names, I’ve been so busy planning my wedding (5 weeks and 3 days to go!) and starting a new job we hadn’t really had time to think about TTC!

My news is bittersweet but I think it’s a step in the right direction nonetheless.
We found out last Sunday (20th) we were pregnant but sadly miscarried in Wednesday (23rd).
More than anything, I’m so pleased I can actually get pregnant as back in February (I think that’s when I last posted on here?!) my gynae had said it was unlikely we would conceive naturally due to my PCOS. He sent me off with a supply of metformin, said try naturally and if you’re not pregnant by end of the year well refer you for fertility treatment (even put that in a letter to my GP)
So although it has been absolutely shit, I’m desperately clinging to the silver lining that we won’t need fertility treatments!

So my point of this post is don’t lose hope, it can happen when you least expect it!!!

Hope everyone else is well ❤️

Hi all. Hope you don't mind me joining.

I've just been told I have pcos today after having an ultrasound & internal which backed up by previous blood tests confirmed it. The internal found my right ovary covered in cysts but they couldn't see the right one at all due to a big cyst approx 7cm.

Been referred to a gynaecologist at a private fertility clinic in 2 weeks time (feel quite lucky about that) to find out what's to be done about the big cyst - gp thinks removal.

Think I've got some research to do on pcos & tbh don't quite know what to expect atm. I just want someone/something to hell me ovulate right now as I'm not ovulating or having periods.

Going to back read the whole thread now. Hope everyone is doing OK & so sorry about your miscarriage littleemma but I'm glad you're seeing a positive there as well :)

Hello!

Hopeless husband looking for advise!

My wife and I have been trying for over 18 months and she has pcos Diagnosed last year. She has a high BMI but is fit and active otherwise heathly person.

Previous doctor told us could try different hormonal drugs etc but yesterday with a new doctor she told us nhs has high ivf criteria she wouldn’t meet and that she needs to lose weight.

Which is fine but I wondered does ivf cover all hormone drugs? I thought ivf was at the later stages. Sorry I’m a puzzled guy.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I really want to support my wife during this time.

Hi all,
I'm new to mumsnet and thought I'd say hello.
I'm 27 TTC for 10 months with PCOS. I've just completed my first cycle on metformin and clomid 50mg and am feeling pretty gutted I'm without a BFP. My progesterone levels were really good and confirmed ovulation (first time since TTC!!)
Any advice on how to stay sane, improve chances for next month, weight loss (my BMI has creeped over 25 thanks to the amount of chocolate conceived during our TTC journey) would be welcome Smile

intrigued2018 · 09/06/2018 09:39

Welcome back @littleemma1 - how are you? Sorry to hear about your MMC, keeping clinging onto the silver lining, shows your have ovulated so could conceive naturally again, How is the wedding planning coming along? Very exciting time! Have an absolute amazing day, I'd love to do ours all over again 😀

Welcome to @tinyradish, Dancingboy1989, @bohemianmama - this group is really helpful for keeping you sane and understanding the ttc journey with PCOS.

@tinyradish - sorry to hear about your PCOS diagnosis, at least the nhs are helping and you should soon know more as to what's going on! Fingers crossed they help x

@Dancingboy1989 - there are numerous steps they normally take before reverting to IVF, there is metformin which is used to treat diabetics which can help regulate periods, Clomid and injections (don't know injection name as not that that stage), also ovary drilling. I'm sure there are other things I have missed but they are the ones that come to mind. The gynae will normally refer you to fertility to get help with the above so weight may need reducing before they will refer you for any help.

@bohemianmama - welcome to mumsnets! It's so hard to keep sane at times, the way I manage is to focus on work, makes tonnes of plans and only think about ttc during the few days a month I know it's possible. It can get all consuming. Some people recommend accupuncture, I haven't myself but others I have spoken have rated it. We've been told by the fertility clinic we can't ttc for the time being as I'm having tonnes of other tests done so they can tailor my treatment due to another autoimmune illness I have, once we are on the journey again I'm seriously considering it! Xxx

tinyradish · 09/06/2018 10:15

Thanks for the welcome @intrigued! Hopefully the break from ttc is quite nice in a way? Hope you get everything sorted soon & have a plan of action from the fertility clinic.

I've been having acupuncture & would really recommend it even if only for relaxation & destressing although I do believe in can help with ttc. Pricey though Yesterday he got a ruler out & started measuring my stomach area - then he tells me afterwards the little dots he'd drawn on will take a few days to fade... Good job I'm not going swimming or anything isn't it Grin

tinyradish · 09/06/2018 10:17

Forgot to say I started taking inositol - not sure if it'll help but doesn't seem to able to do any harm either so why not.

bohemianmama · 09/06/2018 22:35

@intrigued2018
Thank you for the welcome! Sorry to hear your having to take a bit of a time out from TTC but atleast the fertility clinic is considering the best options and you have a little bit of time to yourselves to get ready and healthy for the journey that lies ahead. It's so reassuring to read everyone's stories on here, even miracles take s little time!Star

Alicejj8x · 19/06/2018 18:28

Hello everyone I am back since my MC in March this year.

Just found out last Monday we have our BFP all down to good old metformin!!

Hope everyone is ok xx

intrigued2018 · 19/06/2018 19:02

Hi @Alicejj8x,

Congratulations on your BFP! Amazing news. How far gone are u now? Glad metformin seems to have done the trick.

I'm trying not to get my hopes up currently, the fertility consultant said to stop ttc whilst I was having other tests due to another illness I have (my mum has as well and never caused her any issues with pregnancies) and then they'd make a plan - we have had the tests and waiting for results but in the meantime felt counterintuitive not ttc as could miss a chance and if we don't have to pay for private fertility help and go through the process that would be preferential. 10days ago I'm convinced I ovulated based on CM and mood and so DTD. These last few days my boobs have hurt massively, I've had little waves of nauseas, strange tastes, peeing loads and started checking sugar content and refusing things with too much!! I can normally eat an entire pack of haribo without batting an eyelid. I'm trying not to get my hopes up as all seems a little to early to get these symptoms so probably my body giving me false hope again. Argh I'm going to wait at least another week then test x

tinyradish · 19/06/2018 22:11

Alison18031 · 20/06/2018 19:51

Anyone else have alternating cycles with pcos: one cycle with ovulation, normal period, tender breasts; the next one with no ovulation, light period, etc? I’ve always been like that, I’m 32 now. Metformin doesn’t seem to be fixing this pattern:(

tinyradish · 21/06/2018 18:54

That sucks Alison but the positive is that you're ovulating sometimes - that's better than never! :)

tinyradish · 21/06/2018 18:56

I have 14 days of provera to induce a bleed (I'm cd118) & then 3 cycles of Clomid - has anyone used either before??

mouse1234567 · 21/06/2018 20:20

Any other PCOS ladies who are irregular but still ovulate and have had success after being prescribed clomid?

Alison18031 · 21/06/2018 20:46

I had success after taking Provera. But it was in a different country, here gp is not allowed to give these drugs

intrigued2018 · 08/07/2018 17:53

Hey all,

I hope you are enjoying this lovely weather! As expected after my last post it my was body giving me false hope and AF arrived.

I've since had another appointment with my fertility clinic to get my blood results and they've given us the option of ovulation induction via injections or IVF. We've decided to try ovulation induction via injections as IVF seems a final resort and if we can do things more "naturally" that would be a preference. Has anyone else tried ovulation induction via injections? We are booking our appt on Monday to run through everything and start the process, not really sure what to expect and am feeling nervous x

Rmad6716 · 11/07/2018 10:34

Hi Girls,

Please chuck me off the thread if I'm in the wrong place but I couldn't find any PCOS threads in the conception boards...

Just 'almost' been diagnosed, came off pill in Jan (TTC since then) & the PCOS symptoms have been getting worse by the month. Had 3 bleeds so far this year. My bloods show raised levels of testosterone (2.9) and androstenedione (14.1). Does this sound right for PCOS?

Just waiting on my ultrasound now but I know that I only need two of three markers for diagnosis anyway..I think.

Currently on day 46 of cycle and no attempt at ovulation yet. Feeling crappy.

What would the next steps for me be? My acne is getting worse and shaving my face isn't helping it Sad. Tried plucking too but it just gives me loads of ingrowns! Had the laser from the hospital a few years ago but since stopping pill it's much worse again.

Thanks in advance x

LookingAtTheStars89 · 16/07/2018 12:54

@xLauraa. Hey :-) How are you doing? X

xLauraa · 16/07/2018 13:10

@LookingAtTheStars89
Hello lovely.

I'm really well thankyou. All recovered from my LAP now and consultant happy etc....
OH currently on HCG hopefully will improve sperm. He's to be on that for 3 months then we go back for his SA and a follow up late September / early October!

How's everything with you?! X

gnatbat · 16/07/2018 21:34

taking the plunge and diving in. A friend recommended mumsnet for some ttc support after my eyes were scarred for life after joining some facebook groups...

I have two 10 year old Daughters (one conceived naturally, one adopted) and we are trying for #3 (or #2 depending how you look at it)

I was diagnosed with PCOS about 12 years ago, and havent had a natural period in about 8 months, only induced bleeds with norethisterone.

I got an ovusense device to try, and it reckoned I ovulated on day 106 of my cycle, so I'm now doing the tww in the hope it was correct and I get a natural period (we didn't BD at all around this supposed ovulation because damn ladies, its been hot!)

I'm overweight, and working desperately on getting my BMI down to under 35. Lost 21lbs so far, and hoping to lose the same again before a first fertility appointment at the hospital on aug 31st.

Not sure what to expect from the appointment aside from being told to lose more weight - been referred as my GP wouldn't prescribe metformin, so hoping the hospital might even before I hit a BMI of 35 or less? Beyond that I don't even know what they will offer to do for us as its not a first baby.
