4 high quality embryos at day 3 - what should I expect at day 5?

Goodluckjonathan76 · 11/10/2017 19:45

Mid way through our first cycle of IVF. They retrieved 6 eggs and 4 fertilised. The embryologist called me on day 3 and said all 4 embryos were high quality (at least 10 cells and minimal fragmentation) and so they could keep them until day 5 or 6. I am due an update tomorrow am and probably ET tomorrow afternoon or Friday (day 5 or 6) and just trying to set my expectations for the news tomorrow. How many usually die between day 3 and 5? If we do have at least one left, what are my chances of it sticking? I've gotten so pessimistic that I've sort of ruled out it working. Should I assume it's not doing to work or should I be more hopeful?

That's great news goodluckjonathan so happy for you! Would be amazing to announce at Christmas!

jojo did you get another blood test done? Do you get the results the same day?

So we have 2 lovely embies to freeze which is great. She said they are 4AB and 5BB. Is that good ? The third one didn't make it. Only a week to go till OTD!

JoJoSM2 · 25/10/2017 18:05

Hello Ladies ;)

Otters, they’re excellent blasts. You’ve done really well to have those to freeze..

Goodluck, so happy to hear about the 2-3 weeks result! The beta must be going up really nicely indeed!

I went for another beta this morning and it shot up in 48h from 294 to 862! I spoke to my clinic and have a 7-week scan booked for 10/11 Smile And yes, 12 weeks would be before Christmas so perfect timing to share the news Wink

Do you know how it works with the NHS? Who to see/ring and when? The GP? Have got considered private care? DH doesn’t trust the NHS but it seems to be 20k for pregnancy care + straightforward labour privately... Slightly insane.

Goodluckjonathan76 · 25/10/2017 18:24

JoJo, are you really 7 weeks on 10/11? OMG!! What date was your ET?

So annoyed that I can't even tell my clinic yet!

Re the NHS, first step is to book a GP appointment who will then refer to to hospital. They usually give you a choice - think ours will be the Whittington, the Royal Free or UCH. Will probably go to UCH. I looked into going private with my last baby as I have private healthcare and ruled in out almost immediately when they sent me the price list. The basis of charging wasn't clear to me and it seemed that there was huge potential to get clobbered for extras. I've had 2 c-sections on the NHS and received excellent care both times although my ex was a dr so we managed to get a private room which made a massive difference. The only thing I would consider spending on is a private room for after delivery.

And congrats Otters, fab quality blasts! My one that implanted was a 3BB so yours are way better! Keeping everything crossed for you.

OP posts:
otters2017 · 25/10/2017 18:49

Thanks guys. I had a 3BB transferred and they called on day 6 to say that 2 of 3 survived - 4AB and 5BB. I'm not sure about the grading but I did wonder if we should have put 2 back. Anyhow it's done and I just need to focus on my embie growing and know that I have 2 good frosties. It's good to hear about your BFP jonathan with your 3BB blastocyst.

jojo great news on the beta results. You must be over the moon!

jonathan how come you have to wait so long to tell your clinic? It's interesting how different clinics differ. Mine said to test 2W from EC which is 9d from my 5dt.

JoJoSM2 · 25/10/2017 20:08

Goodluck, thank you for all the info. I’ll contact my GP and see what the options are.

My transfer was a day before yours (11.10) so you’ll be 7 weeks on 11/11! After all, we were already 2w5d on the day of the transfer Wink

Otter, 3BB is a good quality blasts and you’ve now got the other fabones waiting for you, anyway. When are you going to start testing? 9dp5dt or might you be tempted sooner?

otters2017 · 26/10/2017 09:47

jojo my otd is 1st nov so not long to wait. Think I'll just wait till then and not risk testing early. Do you start counting pregnancy from transfer day or egg collection?

JoJoSM2 · 26/10/2017 11:10

Pregnancy counts from egg collection + two weeks. So on the blast transfer day, you're 2w5days already ;) So if all goes well, you're 7weeks a month after transfer.

I'm stressing today, although at this stage my chance of a live baby is over 80%. I've still got 2 pregnancy tests left and might use them on Sunday and Monday to see if they say 3+.

otters2017 · 26/10/2017 17:51

Thanks jojo don't stress, I'm sure it will be fine. I know I'll probably be testing a hundred times if I get my BFP so pot kettle black!

Goodluckjonathan76 · 26/10/2017 18:09

Don't stress JoJo, I am sure all will be fine.

Is it just me or is anyone else starting to feel a bit sick? Surely it's too early but I have started to feel queasy of an evening as I did in my last 2 pregnancies which forced my onto a diet of cheese sandwiches and apples. I am also missing vino!!

DH and I DTD last night, just under 2 weeks after ET. Really hope this is ok.

Also, realised that I booked to go away during May half term when I will be 35 weeks pregnant. Easyjet policy seems to say that you can fly up to 35 weeks with a dr's note. I think I will be 35 weeks and 3 days or something when we fly back. Does anyone know how strict they are?

OP posts:
otters2017 · 26/10/2017 19:10

goodluck been debating about dtd with DH. Only 3dp5dt. Doctor said carry on as normal no problem but I've been reading conflicting advice online. I'm sure 2 weeks is fine. Sorry don't know about easyJet policies.

JoJoSM2 · 27/10/2017 15:12

There does seem to be a lot conflicting advice... I’ve had conflicting advice from my clinic Grin They gave me a leaflet on transfer day and a couple of days ago sent me another one that says sth different... We’ve already dtd-ed as well but tbh I found myself paranoid and not able to fully enjoy it.

Goodluck, I have no idea about Easyjet but wouldn’t you be a bit worried about going into labour on hols? Is it your official test date tomorrow? Are you going for a blood test?

Otters, have you got any children already?

Goodluckjonathan76 · 27/10/2017 17:12

Afternoon all.

I checked Easyjet policy and it says that you can fly up until the end of your 35th week with a dr's note so should be ok. Not that worried about going into labour early but am worried about appearing like an elephant on the beach. I also have an awful phobia about flying which isn't going to help! Kids will be so diappointed if we don't go though.

Called my clinic earlier and booked a blood test for tomorrow. Horrified to hear that I need to keep doing the clexane injections up until 10 weeks! I thought it was only until tomorrow so gutted. The clinic said they will scan me in 2 weeks and then again at 9 weeks.

How is everyone else? Otters, when do you plan to test?

OP posts:
Goodluckjonathan76 · 27/10/2017 17:13

JoJo, my OTD is tomorrow but I told clinic I had already tested and they said congrats so I am almost official!

OP posts:
JoJoSM2 · 28/10/2017 09:08

Goodluck, have you had the blood test yet?
How often do you do your Clexane injections?

I’ve got some blood tests booked for the coming week. I’ll get my thyroid and progesterone checked.

Otters, how are you getting on? Managing not to test?

otters2017 · 28/10/2017 10:08

jojo I'm plodding along. No real symptoms so just holding out till OTD
on wed. I don't have any other children. This is the first one!

goodluck hope your blood test shows a good level of hcg - I presume that's what you're testing and scan in 2 weeks yay!

Goodluckjonathan76 · 28/10/2017 18:53

Hi all. So, finally had my clinic visit with the nurse who did bloods. Will get results tomorrow but they will test progesterone and HCG. I will be on clexane and progesterone until 10 weeks, urghh! Scans at 7 weeks, so on 14th November, and 9 weeks, 2 weeks after. They also do the harmony test at 10 weeks - though it was at 12 weeks so glad it's earlier! Realising it is still so early that anything can happen although feeling positive overall.

Otters, how many dpt are you? Are you tempted to test?

JoJo, how are you feeling? Any sickness yet?

OP posts:
Goodluckjonathan76 · 28/10/2017 18:54

JoJo, clexane injections are every evening. Small needle but still not pleasant.

OP posts:
JoJoSM2 · 29/10/2017 14:02

Hello Ladies :)

O wow Goodluck, sounds like they’ll be doing a fair few tests and scans. How did your bloods go? Did you have any tests other than beta? Do you feel sick often?

Otters, have you stocked up on tests? Not long till Wednesday :)

I haven’t got any sickness going on. My only symptoms are occasional mild cramp or twinge. I tried the digi test today and it’s still 2-3weeks. I think it should progress to 3+ tomorrow or Tuesday.

I just hope my thyroid is ok. The clinic told me to test it when I find out I’m pregnant and I’m going on Wednesday. However, on the uk thyroid association website, they recommend to up the dose as soon as you get a bfp to be adjusted after a blood test. By Wednesday, I’ll be 5+5 already so I hope my thyroid doesn’t cause me a miscarriage in the meantime Confused

Goodluckjonathan76 · 29/10/2017 17:34

Hi all

Got blood and progesterone results this morning - in the words of the nurse, all looks wonderful! Scan booked for 14th. Still feeling a bit sick on and off during the day.

JoJo, have you had issues with thyroid before? Think they just do it as a catch all.

Otters, how are?

OP posts:
otters2017 · 29/10/2017 22:12

goodluckjonathan excellent news! Good luck for your scan. Not long to go

jojo are you testing again tomorrow to check for progression?

I'm 6dp5dt today. Been getting lots of cramps and twinges but thankfully no bleeding or spotting. On constant knicker watch though which isn't great. Hope that it's just embryo settling in. I'll test on wed as suggested by the clinic. Only have 1 FRER so will have to order more. I'm a little scared to test - I want to know but I don't want to know if you get what I mean. Did anyone else feel like this coming up to test day?

Goodluckjonathan76 · 30/10/2017 10:57

Well done Otters, for holding out until Weds! I tested at 4dp5dt (BFN) then again on 6dp5dt and got BFP! I had no symptoms at all 5dp5dt or at 6dp5dt and was convinced that I was out. I only tested on day 6 as I didn't want to delude myself a day longer. Natural to feel terrified and not to want to know.

JoJo, how are you?

OP posts:
Goodluckjonathan76 · 30/10/2017 11:04

Just did another digital test and it came up with "pregnant - 3+"!! When is it going to start sinking in???

I also found out that they do the Harmony test at 10 weeks. Really not that long to wait before we know if all looking ok.

OP posts:
JoJoSM2 · 30/10/2017 11:26

Goodluck, that sounds fantastic. ;) 3+ and all the sicky feeling - it’s going really well for you. Just out of curiosity, do you know what your beta was? Or just ‘excellent’?

Otters, sounds quite promising for you. I had my bfp at 6dp5dt. I decided to test early as I wanted to know if it’s a negative or a chemical etc if you wait until OTD, you might not catch a chemical. Probably better for some women’s sanity but I wanted to know everything Grin

I’m on a downer. Did another test this morning and it’s still 2-3 weeks Hmm So definitely not going up very quickly. No symptoms whatsoever.

I’ve just sneaked out of work and I’m on my way to do another beta + progesterone and thyroid. I’ve been on thyroid meds’ for a few months and apparently the dose needs adjusting as soon as you get your bfp and I’m already 5+3 today! I hope it’ll be good news with the results.

Goodluckjonathan76 · 30/10/2017 11:42

JoJo, what is beta please? I didn't ask yesterday but am about to call clinic to find out how much the next 2 scans are (the Fetal Medicine Centre where I went with DSs seems to to a v good package for the harmony test so want to compare prices). Sure yours in fine and you will get 3+ very soon. Everyone is different.

I too wanted to know early. It's scary either way and waiting just made me feel worse. I also would rather know even if it turned out to be chemical.
