4 high quality embryos at day 3 - what should I expect at day 5?

Goodluckjonathan76 · 11/10/2017 19:45

Mid way through our first cycle of IVF. They retrieved 6 eggs and 4 fertilised. The embryologist called me on day 3 and said all 4 embryos were high quality (at least 10 cells and minimal fragmentation) and so they could keep them until day 5 or 6. I am due an update tomorrow am and probably ET tomorrow afternoon or Friday (day 5 or 6) and just trying to set my expectations for the news tomorrow. How many usually die between day 3 and 5? If we do have at least one left, what are my chances of it sticking? I've gotten so pessimistic that I've sort of ruled out it working. Should I assume it's not doing to work or should I be more hopeful?

Good Luck, do post yours when you're back. It'll be very interesting to see. Due date would be 29.06 ;)

I'm kind of thinking about it and enjoying the pregnancy whilst it lasts. My first one, after all ;) The chance of it sticking is well over 50% so stats are on our side. But equally trying not to get ahead of myself as it's just way to early.

Goodluckjonathan76 · 19/10/2017 17:02

Think my due date is later, as in 3 July - not sure why. Thank god we have avoided March. My sons' birthdays are within days of each other so March is already packed and crippingly expensive!

Is it only 50% chance from here? Surely higher than that?

What grade was your embryo?

My due date is coming up as the 30 June. Surely these dates can't all be right? I had a transfer on Thursday 12th.

I tested again nice strong line. here are mine
Furthest left 2 are from tuesday (5dp5dt) furthest right is today (7dp5dt) and second right was yesterday. Non with fmu all mid morning.

I think the odds on a little e birth from here are affected by so many factors (age, embryo quality, etc). Try not to worry. You e got this far which after everything is pretty momentous.

Excuse my typos.

JoJoSM2 · 19/10/2017 18:03

Twickerhun, they’re looking great!

The dates seem to add up. My transfer was 11/10 and due date 29/06 :)

Good Luck, my blast was frozen a hatchig top grade and all cells survived the thaw but at the time of transfer it had only just expanded back and wasn’t hatching.

Tbh, I don’t know the stats from here but imagine it’s more likely to happen rather than not happen.

Goodluckjonathan76 · 20/10/2017 10:27

Ok, so I had another heart attack this morning when using the second HPT from Boots. The line took over a minute to appear and then 3-5 minutes to develop properly, I honestly thought for a minute that there was going to be no line!! Not sure the line is getting any harder. Is anyone else having this? Think I should only test with First Response kits!

OP posts:
JoJoSM2 · 20/10/2017 11:57

Goodluck, would you believe- same here!

My Boots tests came up paler today and I cried...

I went for me beta yesterday ((8dp5dt) and a nurse rang to say it came back at 59.8 which seems very normal at this stage.

So IMO the Boots tests are rubbish.

As I love numbers, I checked some stats. I think once you get to the fetal heartbeat stage, the chance of live birth increases to 80%+

Goodluckjonathan76 · 20/10/2017 12:57

We are in the same boat JoJo!I daren't try the ditigal ones for fear of getting a BFN. Are you going to keep testing every day? I'm a bit worried that my clinic doesn't recommend testing before 16 dp5dt. Worried it could be because they expect a lot of a BFPs to turn BFN. It will be a relief to get to 28th October when we are offfically allowed to test. Do you know what are next steps at the clinic? Do they do blood test but is that then it?

When do they scan to check the fetal heartbeat? 6 weeks?

Twickerhun · 20/10/2017 14:15

With my last pregnancy it took 5-10 days for the lines to get properly darker. The darkness of the line can be affected by how hydrated you are etc

Twickerhun · 20/10/2017 17:31

My scan is two weeks after my official test date so I'll be 6+5. Scary.last time I had major scan anxiety each scan time. I can't see this time being any better

JoJoSM2 · 20/10/2017 19:12

Twickerhun, that’s what I’m slightly dreading - not being able to fully relax and getting anxious about scans even if things are going well... Did you ever feel fully confident and relaxed with your previous pregnancy?

Goodluck, I’m not even sure when they scan at my clinic - one step at a time and all that Wink I think I’m going to test with the digital test every day to see when it comes to 2-3 weeks. If it is there by Wednesday/Thursday, I will be happy.

Twickerhun · 20/10/2017 19:23

Jo jo I relaxed at about 26 weeks... not much before!

My clinic don't scan but I'll book the scan with baby bond / ultrasound direct who have branches all over England

Goodluckjonathan76 · 20/10/2017 20:08

I keep forgetting that by the time you miss your period (Monday for me) you are 1 month pregnant, right? So the 6 week scan would only be 2 weeks after?

JoJo, have you used a digital test yet?

I think/hope I will relax after the 12 week scan. The main worry for us is the risk of downs or other chromosomal issues, given our ages. DH and I were just talking about what we would do if the harmony test shows an increased risk. If that is all ok then I will breathe a massive sigh of relief. Having said that, my lovely friend had IVF then had a miscarriage at 5 months. So sad and scary that it can happen at any time.

When do you guys plan to get everyone? 12 weeks or later?

OP posts:
JoJoSM2 · 21/10/2017 08:07

Twickerhun, it took until 26 to relax? Oh dear... I couldn’t sleep last night I was fretting so much. I do hope I can deal with the anxiety or it’ll drive me demented!

Goodluck, I tried a digital test today (no weeks indicator) but the sensitivity of this one is 25 units. It said it would take up to 3 mins but came up as pregnant after 1min24sec (that’s how bad my anxiety is - I’m now timing this stuff!)

With regards to telling people about the pregnancy, we’ve told my MIL, my sister and one of my friends - they’re my support network Wink We’ll probably tell another 2-3 people if we get to the heartbeat stage but won’t make a general announcement till the second trimester.

How about you Ladies, have you told anyone?

Goodluckjonathan76 · 21/10/2017 10:54

JoJo, well done for doing a digital one. I am too scared. Not sure why! I have one first response test left so will use that they maybe try a digital next week.

When is the heart beat stage? 6 weeks?

I ended up telling someone at work, only because we happened to be talking about pregnancy, life plans etc, and just seemed right to say, and 1 other friend. We've not told anyone else. Debating whether to tell my sister or whether to at least wait until clinic confirms pregnancy which won't until the end of the month.

Hi can I join in please?
Firstly congrats on all the BFPs, so exciting and really hope that they stick.
This is my first ever IVF. Had EC on wed, 8 eggs collected. 5 fertilized and this morning (day 3) they phoned to say we have 5 good quality embryos so will culture to day 5 and transfer then. I have the same question as goodluckjonathan - 5 good quality embryos at day 3, what to expect at day 5? Reading this thread has been immensely helpful and I'm feeling positive and hopeful. Fingers crossed.

JoJoSM2 · 22/10/2017 07:45

Goodluck, I think heartbeat can be heard from about 6-7 weeks. So yes, just 2 weeks or so after your test date.

I’ve tested yet again this morning and still preggers Grin

Otters, good luck tomorrow. No way of telling what will happen for you but 40-50% is the statistical chance of blasts. So a couple would be a good outcome.

Twickerhun · 22/10/2017 08:44

Otter all good wishes for transfer day. I had 7 at day 3 and ends up with 2 day 5 hatching blasts and 2 day 6 hatching blasts.

otters2017 · 22/10/2017 14:58

Thanks jojo and twickers

Are you having a scan soon jojo?

Goodluckjonathan76 · 22/10/2017 20:00

Welcome Otters and congratulations on how it has gone so far. All sounding very positive! Is your ET tomorrow? Good luck!

I did a First Response test this am and lovely strong line. Think I am also starting to get symptoms as feeling really tired and tetchy and sore boobs.

Twickerhun, which of your blasts did they put back?

OP posts:
JoJoSM2 · 23/10/2017 07:49

Otter, good luck today!

Twickerhun, you did really well on the blast front to get 4 hatching frozen! Are you still testing?

It’s my OTD today and I’m feeling increasingly confident. My Clear Blue came up as 2-3 weeks pregnant this morning.
Otters, I think I’ll book my scan if I stay pregnant for another week. I’m only 4w3d today so the scan isn’t due for another 2.5weeks or so.

Goodluck, another test this morning? Is the line getting very dark?

JoJoSM2 · 23/10/2017 10:42

A little update from me.

Just had a beta done. It turns out that in Italy, you can just rock up at the local pharmacy, they do a finger prick test, charge you 18e and you get the result 15 mins later. So mine came out at 294 at 12dp5dt. That’s doubling time of just over 38h so I’m feeling a lot more confident but will pop back to the pharmacy on Wednesday.

otters2017 · 23/10/2017 16:51

Embryo transfer done! 1 lovely embryo on board. I can't believe we made it to this stage! We have 3 more growing but they were smaller and not as good as the lead one hence transferring one only today. We will find out tomorrow if any are suitable for freezing. I hope we made the right decision to just have one as we were given the option of 2 (im 39) but i think the doctor was leaning towards just one as it was clearly more developed than the others

jojo is beta a hcg blood test? results sound positive so keep hanging on in there!

goodluckjonathan congrats!

JoJoSM2 · 24/10/2017 07:22

Otters, sounds great ;) I'll keep my fingers crossed for your blast. And hope there are more to freeze today. It's better to freeze Day 6 blasts so I think it's all working out in your favour. As they are a little slower, they often miss the window of implantation opportunity in the uterus. However, when frozen and then transferred on Day 5, they do very well as you make up a day again.

Beta hCG is the hormone that you have in pregnancy. You can pee on a stick or do a blood test to check for it. I got a positive home pregnancy test 6 days after transfer but have been worried it might end up a chemical. Are you going to test early or wait for OTD set by he clinic?

If you get a blood test, you can see what the levels are and how quickly they are rising. If they double every 48h, then your chances of the embie making it through the first trimester increase. I think a lot of clinics get that done as standard anyway to reassure you.

I'm going to do another blood test tomorrow - 14dp5dt. If the level has risen appropriately, I'll email the clinic and see what they say. I think I'll also be ready to ring up my GP. DH is feeling very confident already Grin

Goodluckjonathan76 · 25/10/2017 11:31

Morning all. Hope everyone is well.

I finally did a digital test yesterday and it came up "pregnant , 2-3 weeks - yay!! DH is finally convinced! My official test date isn't until Saturday though so we are still in limbo. Will probably keep testing every other day and then call the clinic on Monday to give them the result. I am 13dp5dt today. I think I will also make a GP appointment today given that it's usually a 3 week wait for a non-urgent appointment. Still not sinking in!

According to my calculations, we should be due for 12 week scan around 19th December. JoJo, Twickerhun, does that fit in with your dates as we are on the same schedule. Would be amazing to have 12 weeks scan/harmony test before Christmas then be able to tell people. xx
