4 high quality embryos at day 3 - what should I expect at day 5?

Goodluckjonathan76 · 11/10/2017 19:45

Mid way through our first cycle of IVF. They retrieved 6 eggs and 4 fertilised. The embryologist called me on day 3 and said all 4 embryos were high quality (at least 10 cells and minimal fragmentation) and so they could keep them until day 5 or 6. I am due an update tomorrow am and probably ET tomorrow afternoon or Friday (day 5 or 6) and just trying to set my expectations for the news tomorrow. How many usually die between day 3 and 5? If we do have at least one left, what are my chances of it sticking? I've gotten so pessimistic that I've sort of ruled out it working. Should I assume it's not doing to work or should I be more hopeful?

@JoJoSM2 definitely buy a first response early response in the pink box - FRER - I had a line at 5dp5dt (although I had a chemical

JoJoSM2 · 14/10/2017 22:32

Thank you, Ladies. It they can show things up so early, I'm going to try them instead of going in for a blood test :)

Goodluckjonathan76 · 16/10/2017 10:10

Stupidly just tested about got a BFN, obviously! ET was 3pm last Thursday so not even 4 DP 5DT. Doesn't bode well though.

Good luck, guess what I did this morning Grin I’m only a day ahead of you. I don’t think I peed enough anyway as even the test line turned up only after a few minutes and pretty faint (no other line obviously).

Are you going to try every day?

Goodluckjonathan76 · 16/10/2017 10:53

Ha ha JoJo! At least you are day 4/5! It could still happen for both of us. I just don't feel hopeful though, do you?

I don't have any HPT left and am tempted not to buy any for a day or so, so that I can't test. You?

I only had the one test. Not that hopeful due to disappointing lining. I also rang my sister this morning.

She got pregnant with both her children in the first month of trying but said that no early response test showed anything until she missed her periods... So that gave me a bit of hope.

I actually rang the local private hospital this morning to see if I could pop in for a blood test but they are being a bit unhelpful...

To be honest, I am not sure what to do now... but feeling the temptation to try tomorrow morning again.

Have you got any symptoms? Did you start testing early when you were trying for your two boys?

Goodluckjonathan76 · 16/10/2017 11:31

I would try tomorrow if I was you. I will probably cave and test too!

I don't have any symptoms but way too early for that i think.

My other pregnancies were yonks ago and most recent wasn't planned so I didn't test early. The only sympton I recall having was that I kept waking up early needing the loo, which prompted me to test and it was positive (to my horror!) How things change!

You have tested far too early

For 4 cycles I tested on the day for reasons I said in earlier reply

Last /5th cycle I tested 3 days early as was my bday. It was negative. Tested on day meant to and got my first and only bfp

She is 6mth old

Don't test for another 5/7days

JoJoSM2 · 17/10/2017 06:59

A faint line this morning! So that’s 6dp5dt (less a few hours).

Appeared within a couple of minutes on a FRER. It’s my first ever BFP so I’m enjoying it whilst it lasts!

Blonds, I wanted to test to see when it might come up positive and to know even if it’s a short chemical.

Blondeshavemorefun · 17/10/2017 07:16

Congrats. Hope it isn't a chemical preg x

Twickerhun · 17/10/2017 07:23

Congrats jojo! I can totally understand why you want to test early.

geeup · 17/10/2017 08:39

Congrats @JoJoSM2 I was exactly the same and wanted to know even if I did have a chemical. Hopefully yours sticks around. Enjoy this amazing feeling!

Goodluckjonathan76 · 17/10/2017 13:08

OMG JoJo, that is amazing!! Congratulations!!!! Wonderful news.

I didn't test his am and won't tonight either. I am 5 dp5dt. I guess i could test tomorrow when I will be 6dp5dt but have now convinced myself I am not pregnant and too depressed to see the BFN.

Thank you everyone :)

Twickerhun, are you staying strong and waiting till Thursday to test?

Good luck, stress of it all is really getting to you, isn’t it? I think 6dp5dt is really early so it would make sense to wait a little longer to test...

Goodluckjonathan76 · 17/10/2017 17:34

JoJo, didn't you test at 6dp5dt? I think I will test tomorrow as I will only wonder if I don't. Just feel put off by BFN yesterday but am guessing not quite 4dp5dt is definitely way too early to test.

Goodluckjonathan76 · 17/10/2017 17:41

Twickerhun, just realised that you had your ET the same day as me. Last Thursday, right? When are you planning to test? Do you have any symptoms at all?

JoJo, do you have any symptoms?

Can I ask both, did you have 1 or 2 embryos put back? Just occurred to me that we only put 1 back which could lessen chances. All a bit of a gamble really.

Also, does anyone know what the process is with frozen embryo transfer and how long you have to wait? I am guessing we would need to have at least 1 month off.

Thought I didn't care but am realising that i will be gutted if this doesn't work. Really frustrating when everything looks great (that said that for each of our IUIs) and everything went so well with this IVF cycle, which was our first, plus lining great and I know I can carry babies, but still nothing. I guess some things are just beyond our control. Makes me cherish my two little monkeys all the more. I had NO idea when I had them how difficult TTC could be.

Twickerhun · 17/10/2017 18:30

Goodluck - my cycle this time was a fet. You can start a fet pretty quickly. Do you have any specific questions? I had a low medicated cycle.

Wishing you well Goodluck, you may still be lucky this cumycks and if not a fET may work.

I tested today with fmu. I couldn't wait! Got a faint second line but it came up on my FRER just after the 3 minute time window and didn't get darker for more than 10 mins so I'll test again tomorrow as I'm not sure. I have no symptoms. My transfer was also Thursday at 12 noon. I think it's positive but I'm worried about the slowness of the second line.

Blondeshavemorefun · 17/10/2017 19:04

had two fet, you can wait a month to have period after a fresh cycle, then have a fet

lot less stressful, no daily injections, usually tablets progynova then pesseries few days before fet

many clinics now prefer to do fets as if they survive the defrosting process they have a stronger chance to take and attache lining

plus body had a chnace to recover from ec (in some cases like me, was bloody awful)

JoJoSM2 · 17/10/2017 22:25

Mine was a FET. The doctor recommended waiting 3periods (so when 3rd period after IVF starts, you start popping the pills). But we waited 2 as the timings worked better so egg collection was mid-August and I started Progynova on 27.09(?).

Like Blondes says, it's just some pills and pessaries on a medicated cycle so nothing compared to a fresh one. Also Good Luck, you've got a bunch of great blasts in the freezer so there's good backup. But obv I'm keeping everything crossed for it working now.

Twickerhun, that sounds promising! I'll be testing tomorrow again to see if the line gets darker.

Best of luck tomorrow Ladies :)

KIKI1502 · 18/10/2017 05:16

Hi ladies. I have not long had my FET. My test day was Monday just gone. Im still in shock that i have had a BFP. I Waited to test as I was so scared of facing yet another negative result.

We done a natural cycle this time with no medication what so ever. It was so much less pressure & stress. I felt it was all really quick & much calmer on the body!

The longest most difficult part was the dreaded 2WW.

We are currently waiting to find out if our 2 5day blastocysts that we put back in have stuck. We are really hoping so. Good luck & stay positive. It's been a really long journey for me! Xx

Goodluckjonathan76 · 18/10/2017 10:08

OMG, I bought a HPT on the way to work and just tested in the loo. BFP!!!!!! Bloody hell. I am shaking, I can't believe it.

OP posts:
JoJoSM2 · 18/10/2017 10:32

Good Luck, that’s amazing!!! Have you told your OH yet or will you do that in person?

Kiki, congrats to you :)

Twickerhun, is your line darker? It did sound like a positive to me yesterday;)

I tested again this morning and the line is much stronger today.

geeup · 18/10/2017 10:39

Massive congrats @Goodluckjonathan76 that's so exciting. Are you 6dp5dt today?

Goodluckjonathan76 · 18/10/2017 11:27

Hi Geeup, yes, I am 6dp5dt (well, a few hours short). Still in shock.

Yes, told DH and texted him a photo of test. He was like, yes but test line is fainter than control, is that ok? Duhhh! It's actually quite a strong line for a first test, I think anyway.

Just wondering, how excited should we feel? I guess there is still a chance it is chemical. Are chemical pregnanices more likely in IVF than in natural pregnanies?

Going to be very hard to not tell anyone for 12 weeks, especially our other kids.

Congrats JoJo and Twickerhun!!
