4 high quality embryos at day 3 - what should I expect at day 5?

Goodluckjonathan76 · 11/10/2017 19:45

Mid way through our first cycle of IVF. They retrieved 6 eggs and 4 fertilised. The embryologist called me on day 3 and said all 4 embryos were high quality (at least 10 cells and minimal fragmentation) and so they could keep them until day 5 or 6. I am due an update tomorrow am and probably ET tomorrow afternoon or Friday (day 5 or 6) and just trying to set my expectations for the news tomorrow. How many usually die between day 3 and 5? If we do have at least one left, what are my chances of it sticking? I've gotten so pessimistic that I've sort of ruled out it working. Should I assume it's not doing to work or should I be more hopeful?

Just popping in to see if there was an update from Goodluck.

We have had to rush my one year old to hospital. He is really poorly. I’ll probably not post much for a bit. It’s all really stressful

otters2017 · 07/12/2017 14:55

Oh no twicker. Really hope your little one is ok. Do take care

Goodluck - any results yet? Sorry you had another row. Must be all the stress!

JoJoSM2 · 07/12/2017 15:43

Twickers, so sorry to hear that about your little one! I hope it gets better soon.

Goodluck, what a day for you! ounds like you're having a truly rotten week. I know they rang me late in the day so perhaps they might ring later today.

Otters, what's up with your gums? Getting free treatment sounds lovely. I was able to get a refund for my most recent Cyclogest and Progynova and that felt really good!

GoodluckJonathan76 · 07/12/2017 15:52

Twickerhun, so sorry about your little one. How awful. Really hope he is ok.

Still no results. Called the Birth Company this morning to chase. They reassured me that it isn't a bad sign that it is taking so long (naturally that's exactly what I'm thinking) but that they do them in batches. So worried and can't concentrate on anything. Horrible few days.

Jojo - I've been having some issues with my gums. I have large gaps between my teeth and the dentist said it's receding. Since being pregnant the gums have grown and filled the gaps (not completely) but it's better. They are quite sensitive and can bleed but the dentist said carry on brushing and flossing etc. must take extra care of your dental hygiene whilst pregnant I was even more surprised when she said I didn't have to pay as I'm pregnant! You can get an exemption card from your GP - also get free prescriptions so I'm now getting cyclogest for free!

Goodluck - sorry it's so stressful waiting! Hope you're not kept waiting too long. Will be good before the weekend. How are you doing otherwise ?

Twickerhun · 08/12/2017 17:08

So there is a woman on the paediatrics high dependency unit here with me who has quads from ivf. She had 2 embryos transferred, both survived, one split to triplets.
Gulp.

Twickerhun · 08/12/2017 17:09

Thinking if you Goodluck hope you get news soon.

GoodluckJonathan76 · 08/12/2017 18:30

STILL no results. Beyond pissed off. From what I could get out of the clinic, it seem they may be testing the second sample because they couldn't get a result from the 1st one. I am still far from convinced it's not because something is wrong and they are double-checking a bad result. Almost wish I hadn't had the test as the whole week as been awful as I have been expecting the results from Tuesday. There is nothing to do other than wait. They say up until 14 days which is end of Monday.

OP posts:
GoodluckJonathan76 · 08/12/2017 18:33

Very tempted though to have nuchal test early next week as it will at least give an indication of downs and other abnormalities. I am 11 weeks tomorrow so in theory could have it from early next week. Nervous of testing too soon though as sometimes throws up issues that resolve themselves. It did with DS1 and I spent a horrible week between 11.4 and 12.4 to wait to hear all was well.

Twickers, how is your little one?

My baby is very sick with bacterial meningitis but he is in good hands.

otters2017 · 08/12/2017 21:54

Twicker - how stressful. Really hope he recovers quickly. How are you holding up?

Goodluck - I feel your pain waiting and worrying for results. The whole journey from the beginning has been stressful waits and uncertainty. Really hope the results are ok. I'm not sure how I feel about the upcoming test now - we have to wait till after the new year for the results 😱

Jojo - how are you?

Remember - how are you?

Rememberallball · 08/12/2017 23:24

Twickers, sorry to hear about your little one - it’s so stressful when they’re poorly xx

Otters, I’m ok thanks - Mum still in hospital. Carers organised and ready to come home so chose that moment to tell the nurse she’s been having diarrhoea all afternoon so now waiting for Drs to clear her to come home!

GoodluckJonathan76 · 09/12/2017 15:43

Twickers, so so sorry about your little one. I really hope he is on the mend. So worrying for you.

Remember, I hope your mum is ok and comes home soon.

Otters, yes, the whole thing is a waiting game. BUT, I finally have some news! The clinic called about an hour ago with some lovely news. Low risk for everything and we are having a little boy so DH and I are delighted! I can finally breathe after an awful few days. I had a horrible dream last night that I had the results which said the baby had died at 7 weeks (not possible as I had scan at 9!) which I took as a bad omen and was prepared for the worst. Will take a while to sink in.

xx

Yeyy Goodluck such great news.

otters2017 · 09/12/2017 22:43

Goodluck - that's great news!! You must be so relieved and another boy. Hurrah!

Remember - is your mum home yet? Hope she's ok

Twicker - how's your little one doing?

JoJoSM2 · 11/12/2017 22:46

Hi Ladies, manic weekend. I finally had a look here this morning but somehow my message didn't post.

Goodluck, amazing news! A boy just like you wanted and healthy. Very happy for you! Are you and DH too happy to get annoyed with each other now?

Twicker, how's your little one doing?

Otters, sorry about your gums. I did read somewhere about teeth going dodgy in pregnancy sometimes. My next appointment is in Feb and it'll be great not to pay for the dentist!

We had a mega busy weekend getting ready for Christmas. We've got 7 people coming over to stay + a few more on Boxing Day. We've gt building work going on + I realised we don't even have enough cutlery or bed linen for everyone so there's a lot of work.

Has anybody else got a bit of a bump? I seem to have a little bump that definitely isn't just bloating.

Twickerhun · 13/12/2017 20:34

Hi all my little one has some brain damage which we pray will improve. The hospital are doing all they can. I’ve lost all pregnancy symptoms which I think might be due to the intense stress I hope isn’t because I’ve lost the baby.... If I had time I’d go fir an extra scan but I’m stuck in the wrong but if the hospital

otters2017 · 13/12/2017 22:29

Twicker - so sorry to hear about your little one. He's in the best possible place. Hope your lack of symptoms is due to stress and not anything else.
Do look after yourself

Jojo - sounds like it's going to be a busy Christmas. I'm not sure if it's a bump but my belly does feel a bit harder which is different no normal flab!

Goodluck - how are you getting on?

Remember - all ok with your mum? How are you holding up?

JoJoSM2 · 14/12/2017 10:44

Twicker, OMG really sorry you're going through this. I'm keeping everything crossed for the best outcome.

Goodluck, have you been on cloud 9 since you got the results?

Otters, your scan and Harmony are tomorrow, aren't they? How are you feeling?

I've been getting some sharp pains and cramps. A bit spooky but I hope it's all normal.

otters2017 · 15/12/2017 21:50

We had our scan and harmony test today. Scan went well - heartbeat 172bpm! Everything looks ok. Such a relief!

How's everyone else doing? Bit quiet round here.

Twicker thinking of you and your family

Rememberallball · 16/12/2017 17:36

Hello ladies.

Twickers, so sorry to hear about LO last weekend, how are things this weekend? I hope (in a strange, weird way) that your symptoms are back with a vengeance and it was just your body dealing with the stress by taking something out of the equation!!

I am coping ok at the moment. Mum came out of hospital on Monday evening but I’ve been really busy at work so not had a lot of time with her this week. She has carers coming in each morning to help her and, apart from 2 falls on Tuesday, seems to be managing ok.

I think I may be approaching the end of my first cycle since our failed ivf as I’ve got very sore breasts and am having rather odd cm. We have decided to swap our holiday that’s booked for April and go out to Cyprus for another try at the ivf. Am struggling to find a clinic that will do the hsg without having my treatment with them - am hoping my gp can suggest something when I see him!!

JoJoSM2 · 17/12/2017 18:02

Otters, that sounds amazing! You'll probably get the results in the next few days? I'm keeping everything crossed for you.

Remember, not long to go there. I hope your GP has some bright hsg ideas.

Goodluck, how are things for you? Have you started telling anyone?

Twickers, thinking about you. Hope it's all getting better now.

My belly is getting massive. I've got another few days at work and don't want to share the news but not sure how to hide it... I measured my waist and it's 15cm bigger than it used to be! I think it's all pregnancy and bloating rather than extra fat, though. We're also looking forward to our scan on Tuesday :)

GoodluckJonathan76 · 18/12/2017 14:50

Hi all, sorry, not been on here as dealing with some issues with DS1.

Twickers, so so sorry to hear about your little one. I can't believe what you must be going through. Will pray he makes a full recovery.

Otters, good luck for harmony results. Sure they will be a lot quicker than my panorama results!

Remember, glad your DM is feeling better and good decision re next cycle. I know it always helped me to cope if we had a plan of action.

JoJo, we are planning to tell our kids (and exs) on Weds and wider family over Christmas although DS1 is having a few serious issues at school at the moment so I am wondering if this is a good time. I do feel bad keeping it a secret through and it's getting harder and harder as I too am getting fatter and fatter by the day. I could barely do my trousers up this morning and my boobs are beyond a joke. For somoene normally flat chested it's quite alarming. I feel like Barbara Windsor! Have you told anyone yet? Also looking forward to scan tomorrow! Are you booking a private 12 week scan as well? I wasn't going to but having second thoughts as I think the FMC scan is a lot more detailed. I also found out that a colleague at work is also pregnant via IVF (due a week before me) and so it one of my best friends (also her 3rd baby, we had our first days apart) so very exciting times. Anyone come up with names yet???

OP posts:
otters2017 · 18/12/2017 21:33

Twicker - hope your LO is recovering. Been thinking of you and your family

Remember - glad you're coping and that you might be able to have another go in April. How's your mum now?

Jojo - results take 2 weeks! I've not dared to measure my waist but can feel the clothes getting a little tighter. How many weeks are you now? Have you told anyone yet?

Goodluck - sorry to hear you're having issues with DS1. How long did you wait for your results in the end? Is it your 12w scan tomorrow? I'm having a private 12w at FMC and an nhs one 2 days later!

Definitely not thought about names yet as we are still undecided whether to find out the gender or not!
