4 high quality embryos at day 3 - what should I expect at day 5?

Mid way through our first cycle of IVF. They retrieved 6 eggs and 4 fertilised. The embryologist called me on day 3 and said all 4 embryos were high quality (at least 10 cells and minimal fragmentation) and so they could keep them until day 5 or 6. I am due an update tomorrow am and probably ET tomorrow afternoon or Friday (day 5 or 6) and just trying to set my expectations for the news tomorrow. How many usually die between day 3 and 5? If we do have at least one left, what are my chances of it sticking? I've gotten so pessimistic that I've sort of ruled out it working. Should I assume it's not doing to work or should I be more hopeful?

Goodluck, best of luck for tomorrow and sharing the news :) Was your scan today too?

Otters, that's a lot of scanning at 12w!

We had our 12w NHS scan today. I'm 12+4 but our little man measured at 13w already. He was asleep at first but when he woke up, he did lots of crazy things, downward dog included. It was very cute. The quality of the images wasn't nearly as lovely as the private scans I had + we could only get 3 little pics for £15 so we're tempted to book a lovely private scan with a nice video in high resolution.

GoodluckJonathan76 · 19/12/2017 22:44

Hi all

Otters, I think my results took 11 days in the end although felt a lot longer! I thought the harmony could be done in the UK so likely to be a lot quicker? Depends which provider they use I guess. Good luck and I hope your wait isn't as painful as mine!

JoJo, thank you for the good luck! I feel like chickening out. I want to tell the DCs but not the exes but we can't do one without the other. Now wondering how long we can put it off. We too had our scan today. We were in there nearly an hour whilst the dr took all the measurements. Our baby was also asleep when we first saw him then woke up and started moving around, waving his hands, looking super cute. Was very emotional. He's measuring exactly 12+3 which is spot on, heart rate was 152 when sleeping then went up to 160 when moving around. Fluid behind the neck measured 1.7 and nasal bone seen so all looking good. Not sure if we will book a private scan as well. Feeling rather broke at the moment and we got a very good look at him today. So weird but you start to love them already don't you?

How is everyone else getting on? Twickers, how is your little one?

Remember, how are you bearing up?

Jojo and goodluck - excellent news about your scan. I can't wait for the next scan as the last one was quite quick - not much to see. It's amazing how quickly they grow at this point! The harmony bloods get sent to America so takes about 2 weeks or more. I think I'll just wait till our appointment to find out. I don't suppose they'd give me bad news over the phone which will make me worry more if they say they can't discuss it!

Hi Goodluck,

I’m ok thanks. It’s my birthday today but have been working, now sat in a hospital outpatient department with DM who has an appointment following back surgery almost 6 months ago - if it’s not one hospital it’s another at the moment.

I’ve got an appointment with my GP tomorrow at 8:30am and I know he will be disappointed that the cycle was unsuccessful. Amhoping ge can give me a direction for the HSG as the Nuffield clinic I contacted only do them for patients having ivf in their clinic.

I’m tired as I seem to either be running around after DM or working. I can’t wait for a lie in and a day off!!

otters2017 · 20/12/2017 22:10

Happy birthday remember ! Good luck with you GP tomorrow. Hope DM is ok

JoJoSM2 · 21/12/2017 22:22

Happy Birthday, Remember!

Otters, sounds like the results will take a little while. But yes, they do grow massively as this age. Literally from a sort of human shape to looking like a human in the space of less than a month.

Goodluck, have you shared the happy news? How did everyone react?

I'm planning to go maternity clothes shopping after Christmas as my jeans wouldn't stretch enough any more. Even the elastic in a pair of leggings feels tight. A few ladies in the Style and Beauty section recommend good places to go.

Rememberallball · 22/12/2017 05:02

Saw GP - he’s such a star!! Commiserated with me in the failure of the cycle and asked a few questions to assess my mental health situation after the disappointment (not that I’m prone to MH issues he just said he has to look after all aspects of my health).

He has dictated letters to my rheumatologist asking for his input/advice regarding any changes to my treatment for RA that would maximise chances of success.

He also has dictated one to the local hospital gynae team to ask for them to see me and organise the hsg test as requested by Cyprus. He said a number of times that we’re self funding and that he supports the test being done on the nhs

Next step is to wait for an appointment to come through the post and see what they say - the consultant who organised our original investigations has since retired so we’re hoping they don’t go mad and want to start again!!

Twickerhun · 22/12/2017 22:10

Remember that all sounds very positive. Hope you enjoyed your birthday despite your dms sickness.

Otters a two week wait for test results must seem like forever.

Jojo and good luck, great news on your scans glad to hear your babies are moving and growing well.

Jojo I need to go mat clothes shopping, can I ask where you are going? Last pregnancy I stuck with jojomamanbebe for convenience but I wasn’t overly impressed with there selection.

I’m doing well. 12 week scan went well last Tuesday but baby wouldn’t cooperate with being measured, it was all curled up. It wriggled its arms and legs lots and we saw it’s heart beat and brain etc. Our tentative due date is now down as the 29th June. Jojo and Goodluck what have your due dates been given as?

My little boy is doing well. He’s home now. I’m sat at his bed side as we can’t leave him alone for long due to risks of epileptic fits. He’s done so well though he is getting better by the day and his little personality is back 80% of the Time. I came so close to loosing him I can’t tell you how it feels to be able to hold him still.

Happy Christmas to all you lovely ladies and blessings on all your bumps as they develop round your precious loads!!

May 2018 bring do much joy and happiness to your growing families xx

GoodluckJonathan76 · 28/12/2017 22:22

Belated Happy Christmas to you too Remember, and everyone else! May 2018 bring you your little one!

How is everyone getting on? Not sure if it's Christmas greediness but I have expanded massively over the last 2 weeks. Still not obviously pregnant but a definite expansion! Anyone else bored of not being able to drink and looking forward to January when all the festivities are over? Or just me?

Otters, did you get Harmony results?

Twickerhun · 29/12/2017 10:02

Happy Christmas and happy new year to you all. May 2018 be the best year ever for you all.

I’m also feeling huge, think it’s the Christmas goodies. DH says I’ve expanded massively He nearly ended up in the garden for that one.

GoodluckJonathan76 · 29/12/2017 10:14

Thanks Twickerhun, you too!

I've gained just over 5 kilos! Is that too much??? At this rate I will be massive by 9 months!

otters2017 · 29/12/2017 22:36

Belated happy Christmas everyone and happy new year! 2018 is going to be an exciting year and I hope a very good year for you remember.

I'm getting my harmony results on 2nd Jan as we are currently away and couldn't get to London today for results and scan.

Last time I weighed myself I'd actually lost 4 pounds which was a surprise to me given the hearty appetite. Have not been able to eat much the last few days - just feeling full quickly.

Anyone buying anything in the sales ?

JoJoSM2 · 30/12/2017 13:48

Happy New Year Ladies!

Did everyone have a nice Christmas? We hosted and had 7 people staying over + more popping over so it was busy!

I’ve got a serious belly now. I drove up to Seraphine in Clapham Junction and stocked up on tons of stuff. It was really good to try things on as I ended up getting clothes in 3 different sizes! I’ve also ordered a few bits online from Topshop and New Look Maternity. I also got tons of maternity clothes from my mum and sister - they’re from a brand called Bebefield and fantastically long.
I’ve also ordered some funky designer trainers (comfy shoes should def come in handy in the next few months!) and I’m now on a look out for a cute cross body bag.

DH is going quite mad researching prams. At the mo it seems to be between one of Mamas and Papas and the Mountain Buggy.

Rememberallball · 31/12/2017 21:38

Happy New Year ladies and bumps xx

I feel it my duty to save you all from the tragedy that is NYE without bubbles to ring in the coming, special, year so I am sacrificing myself for you all - and will drink the whole bottle!! Then it's all things in moderation in the run up to our next trip to Cyprus sometime around April!!

GoodluckJonathan76 · 01/01/2018 12:18

Happy New Year to you all!

Remember, that is very kind! I have to say, NYE and Christmas are just not the same without alcohol! Really glad it is now over and the rest of the world will now be embracing not drinking for at least a month so I don't feel the odd one out. Being pregnant is a lot easier in January.

Wishing everyone all the best for 2018. A very exciting year for all of us. I was laying in bed this morning cuddling DH and it was an amazing feeling to think of the baby curled up inside. My 2 older DSs have been away with their dad for a few days, back later, cannot wait to see their little faces.

Happy new year all!

Hope everyone is keeping well. Remember that's exciting about being able to go to Cyprus in April!

Had my 12 week scan and harmony results at fmc today - all good phew ! Didn't get a good pic as baby wasn't very co-operative. Had to cough and walk around and jump but it wasn't enough! So glad everything is ok though.

How's everyone feeling ? I've read that second trimester is the best so I'm really looking forward to that. 13w tomorrow!

GoodluckJonathan76 · 05/01/2018 13:10

Great news Otters! Hope you get some pictures at the 20 week scan. The weeks are certainly flying by.

I am feeling fine apart from being super stressed at work. I plan to tell them my baby news today which probably won't go down well.

On the plus side, I've started to feel the baby move quite a lot in the last week. Just so lovely. Anyone else had this?

I know this is called Mumsnet. But I am a dad to be. My wife and I are trying to conceive and we chose IVF. 16 eggs were collected and we were told 11 became embryos. On day 3 we were told that 3 of the 11 were growing good and 6 were showing medium growth and 2 were very slow. Me and wife are very anxious and scared of what would be the day 5 result. What would be the percentage of blastocyst in this case.. any chances of the 6 catching up and I read a few posts on Bs n As. What are those about? Can anyone tell us what would be the overall preventer of success in our case..
