Are you Barren & Bored? You've come to the right place!

We do: swearing, empathy, bitterness, tears, sardonic laughter, glittery shit and mocking idiots who know nothing jon snow.

We don't do: baby dust, relentless positivity, "u ok hun", "I had a friend who..", pithy advice or sentimentality generally.

Previous threads 1 and 2.

Now that you've got all that down, welcome to the barren ghetto.

Four that sounds really tough. Remind me whereabouts you are? Someone might have recommendations for a clinic. Have to say your clinic sound shocking. Short protocol for low amh is pretty basic I thought?

PotatoesPastaAndBread · 22/08/2016 20:11

I'm sorry to hear that fourpaws. I'm having a bad doctor day too. They can be so fucking arrogant. One minute patronising and patting you on the head, the next lecturing you about how they know best. I'm angry for you!

fourpawswhite · 22/08/2016 20:38

Thanks all.

Potato what happened to you today? Sick of doctors just nowAngry

I'm midway ish between Newcastle and Edinburgh. Been going to Royal ed so far.

Thank you for all your thoughts.

How are you all doing? Angel not seen you for a while, thanks for support. How are you?

fourpawswhite · 22/08/2016 20:40

Tiger, thanks. I shall look at that tomorrow. Someone mentioned there being a small private clinic in Northumberland. I found one maybe in Hexham but I think it is only nhs. So that's no good.

I seem to have gone into shock or something, I'm actually numb, not angry, not sad, just meh. But weird meh. M

PotatoesPastaAndBread · 22/08/2016 20:54

Oh I asked to pay for some tests to find out summer stuff about myself and they told me they know everything they need to know and not to worry my pretty little head getting more info.

Plus they gave me a scan at the wrong time in my cycle. Banana pointed out they got it wrong, and now they're pretending it was intentional all along.

Arrogant fuckers.

AngelicaSchuyler · 22/08/2016 22:07

Urgh doctors are the worst 😞. When I had my initial gynae appt right at the beginning of this mess (4 years ago), I saw a very new junior doctor who sat in silence and checked her phone while waiting for a chaperone to come in so she could examine me Confused

I'm doing ok thank you Fourpaws. Have meant to post on this thread so many times but couldn't quite sum up the energy to write everything down [lazy].

I think last time I was on here id just been baby bombed by my sister. She lost the pregnancy shortly after so I felt absolutely awful and a MASSIVE bitch for not being more supportive in the first place. Horrible mix of emotions all round - I would not wish that on my worst enemy, let alone my sister. She's doing ok, thankfully.

I had a second laparoscopy last month which removed a fuck tonne of endometriosis, including a load that was apparently pressing on my womb [helpful]. Tubes were apparently fine which surprised me, and the surgeon has basically said 'now you've had a spring clean, time to get cracking'. After 4 years TTC and 4 failed ivfs last year I'm extremely dubious that I'm going to magically instadiff this month, so I'm trying to dampen DH's optimism as much as possible.

Plan is to try naturally for next couple off months, then private ICSI with PGS (elective freeze) followed by FET at the end of the year. Feeling a bit apprehensive/uninspired about dipping back into the world of scans and stabbing after 10 months off, but hey ho!

A truck load of glittery shit to all looks through cookbooks for bonfire cake recipes xxxxx

AngelicaSchuyler · 23/08/2016 16:23

Fucking hell Angry

PotatoesPastaAndBread · 23/08/2016 16:53

Oh my god. Well aren't we just the specimens in the petri dish.

PeaOp · 23/08/2016 17:21

At least the weight of reports has led to it's removal.... I fear more 'mistakes' like this as the need to monetise the site grows...

fourpawswhite · 24/08/2016 20:16

Aw, angel. I Am fully beside you on the fed up bench. Keep posting, we all need to stick together.

Pea, I saw that, is it Blushthat for a narrow second I actually considered it. Then had a wtf moment.

I was wondering if anyone has any links they can send me re low amh and short versus long protocol. I have found several, my doctor would like me to send them to her because she doesn't believe me. AngryI'm thinking of hiring a truck to send them, hey don't worry doc, let's do your job for you. Anyway, no huge deal, just if there are any in particular anyone has handy then that would be great. Thanks.

Sara237 · 24/08/2016 20:23

Had my ec today they got 14 eggs which I was pleased with. One more hurdle done. They said it was good given my age - 39. Dreading call tomorrow why do I feel so negative?

PotatoesPastaAndBread · 24/08/2016 20:29

Well done sara that's a difficult day and one more step out of the way. I understand you feeling down, it's fucking scary waiting for the call. I hope you sleep well tonight, fingers crossed for tomorrow, let us know how it goes.

karlafox · 24/08/2016 20:56

Hey four my AMH was 5.3 but had long protocol last time and same again this time. I did worry about it after reading some stuff so I asked my consultant about it and she said that EC usually reflects your AMH or your AFC (mine was ok at 13) so they based the protocol on this the first time around plus I seem to have a dominant follicle on scanning so short protocol wouldn't help... or something to that effect!

fourpawswhite · 24/08/2016 21:54

Thank you karla, that's reassuring. I don't know what my other one is, but will ask. Feel like I need a medical degree!!!

Sara, Flowersamazing. Hope you are cosied in resting at home. Been thinking of you today. Wow, 14. X

beanhunter · 24/08/2016 22:11

Great news Sara.

LHReturns · 24/08/2016 23:05

Sara what a result, well done!! Do let us know how fertilisation goes!

That has perked me up - I'm 40 and about to start my first fresh round next week I hope. When I did a frozen round in March I got 6 eggs - I would LOVE to get a few more this time!

Congrats again!

LHReturns · 24/08/2016 23:09

ivf.org.uk/images/downloads/Lister-Fertility-Clinic-low-ovarian-reserve.pdf

This link from Lister is quite clear that they see short protocols as an option for poor responders / low ovarian reserve.

Fourpaws, I have low AMH (2.9) plus age 40, and about to start my second short antagonist protocol with the Lister next week. When I did a frozen round in March we got 6 eggs which I was delighted with given my stats. We are about to do our first fresh round with the same short protocol.

bananafish81 · 24/08/2016 23:21

Amazing news sara - that's a cracking haul! Everything crossed for good news from the love lab tomorrow

fourpaws I will have a quick dig for you to see if I came across anything in my travels about protocols for low AMH

This comes to mind as a starter - it's a clinic not a study but it's just a useful one pager

ivf.org.uk/images/downloads/Lister-Fertility-Clinic-low-ovarian-reserve.pdf

First scan tomorrow, scanxiety as to whether there's anything going on in there

Apparently I am the first case my Dr has EVER had where we are doing a full fresh stimulated cycle with egg retrieval but NOT making any embryos, as a means of preparing the womb for a frozen transfer

So the admin staff are scratching their heads trying to work out what consents I need to sign - as they've never had a treatment cycle like this before

Well I'm certainly keeping them on their toes - although in this game I really wish I was a very boring, straightforward, everyday case...

PotatoesPastaAndBread · 25/08/2016 07:36

Good luck for the scan banana

Are your clinic considering paying you for all the teaching, practice and new experience you're giving them??!?

fourpawswhite · 25/08/2016 08:02

Thank you for the link, brilliant help.

banana me too, god i wish I was normal.

For anyone who is interested, here is what she called and said to me last night. i will try and break this down as it will be clearer for me as well.

  1. I was entitled to 2 free treatments on NHS.
  2. Long protocol is best for low amh.
  3. My first cancelled cycle counts as one, so I have one left.
  4. There are a very small percentage of women who do not respond at all to medication and I am one of them.
  5. As of January, any new patient will be entitled to 3 free treatments (not back dated).
  6. the new policy also states that anyone who does not make it to egg collection (me) will not be allowed future treatment on NHS (this WILL be backdated).
  7. I need to do something now or they will remove my last free shot.
  8. There is a new egg sharing option being started in Dundee, and they are happy to accept me onto it. BUT it is unlikely my health board will agree to that as an NHS funded cycle. So she thinks I should just pay for that (£6000)
  9. If I pay privately, I can have much more control and say over the cycle.
10. If I use my cycle that's left on me, it will fail. 11. I have to send any information re short and long protocol as whatever I have been told is incorrect.

Points 5 and 6 are giving my stabby rage, talk about manipulating the policy to discriminate. So the won't allow me another shot, but they will use the same policy to take my shot away. Unbelievable. You know if someone was telling me this, I actually would not believe them.

So yes, I think we should all be paid for teaching them whats what.

GlummyMummy · 25/08/2016 08:55

Fourpaws-I have low AMH (3 back in 2013) and have tried both long and short protocols (despite my own reservations about long protocol based on reading online) I actually found the long protocol worked better for me (I now have a 2 year old daughter from first IVF round) with both quantity and quality of eggs better.

Also agree with you about the free shots at IVF system being a bit of a farce! We self funded our first go as waiting time was 18 months back then and my AMH was so low that I was scared to wait! That cycle was successful so I have now lost my go at a free one and had to continue self funding since! If I was to take up with a new partner though, I could get a free go! Madness!

Sara237 · 25/08/2016 10:16

Clinic just called to say 10 of the 14 eggs have fertilised! Nearly fainted and dh looking very smug that finally his swimmers have done their thing!

LHReturns · 25/08/2016 12:34

I think Glummy makes a good point - it was never suggested to me that my short protocol would necessarily be BETTER for me than long. More that it was certainly an option worth trying as I have low AMH. I jumped at it because I love how fast it is, and I wanted to rush to look decent for my wedding. Blush

As the short worked for me last time (6 eggs at age 40 with low AMH is a decent result), I am going to use it again this time. This time we need to sort out our cack fertilisation with ICSI because I am not going through this only to have DH sperm decide they are feeling a bit run down or whatever on the big day. Consultant confirmed all 6 of my eggs were mature last time and only ONE fertilised. DH says I should buy my eggs some sluttier underwear this time. Nob off.

Anyway, what I am saying is that it sounds like Fourpaws deserves the OPTION to try a short protocol for comparison purposes.

LHReturns · 25/08/2016 12:35

Sara that is incredible - you go!!

Clearly your eggs were looking HOT!!!!!

Well done. I am envious!!
