interesting blog post from a mother of a DS daughter who was blasted by a 5-10 minute diatribe containing all the old stereotypes about people with DS at a Frakie Boyle show. I'm turning off any TV show he's on in future.

blog here

Grauniad article on it here

ust thought that a few people on this thread needed a reminder of these words.

bigot
n
a person who is intolerant of any ideas other than his or her own, esp onreligion, politics, or race

Bullying

Bullying is the act of intentionally causing harm to others, through verbal harassment

strangely not aimed at dp.

DeFluff · 17/04/2010 13:55

LG - I asked for it to be deleted, I was hoping that you wouldn't see it before.

Now strangely I'm about to agree with TSH because although I am passionate in my horror at DP statements and the hurt they cause, I do feel that that the discussion got a little silly last night, and namechanging to try to counter DP is rather cowardly. DeFluff and variations of it are my normal posting name. Surely if you hate what DP spouts then you'd not namechange? Its hardly contentious to hate DP's crap, I would have thought you'd be more likely to change if you were supporting her, and TSH has not namechanged.

Im not sure where I stand on the free speech issue, I need to think more about it. Because it means the vile that DP spouts has to be allowed and I think there has to be a line. Would be interested in a proper debate around where / if the line should be drawn.

So, in short agree totally with Riven, Noddy and Lenin, all arguing passionately and with reason. Some of the others - very silly and will give DP the ammunition to say she is 'picked on'

JollyPirate · 17/04/2010 14:54

I actually feel that DP posts very provocatively to get a reaction. At least I sincerely hope she does as some of her words can be very hurtful if taken personally - and I hope she does not intend that.

JackBauer · 17/04/2010 15:11

yes we got silly last night because yet again a thread about taking offence/opinion has turned into BNP/racism/homophobic/bigot slagfest and I was trying to derail it. I wasn't picking on anyone.
It didn't work. Oh well.

Will follow my normal policy of leaving thread that get hijacked like that in future.

DeFluff · 17/04/2010 15:38

Jackeyboy (quick snog you hunk you), I know, and its all so predictable with DP, I refer you to my (now copyrighted) 'cycle of DP posting'

Anyway, i enjoyed the silliness it was just the 'picking on' bit i thought was a bit ott. But i am not the mother superior of mumsnet (altho i have the outfit ) so feel free to ignore me anyway

JackBauer · 17/04/2010 16:23

I do agree with the 'picking on' there is clear bullying on here, absolutely.

Now, tell me more about this outfit.....

LG; I'm sorry about my earlier post.

I am considering contacting MNHQ to find out who last night name-changers were, it is against MN rules to namechange to attack another poster.

As a member of MN for the past 2.5 yrs, I have a right to know who the spineless fucking cowards were...

...and I will find out.

JackBauer · 17/04/2010 16:47

Good point LG. I just find it hard to post without getting personal when wound up so it is safer for me not to say anything sometimes.

I don't mind anyone challenging me, healthy debate is good, but when you get pathetic name-changers turning up..(and I suspect they all know each other) it all gets ridiculous..... I don't really get on with noddyholder and posieparker, (and that's putting it mildly..lol) but at least they have the balls to talk to me in their usual names..

daftpunk · 17/04/2010 17:11

Are you calling me an intolerant arse....er, er..?

Exactly LG, I don't see how what DP does can be called having a healthy debate.....debate assumes at least trying to see the other persons POV

DeFluff · 17/04/2010 17:17

oi! I slag you off under my own name too
