How very sad

It's really near to where one of my good friends lives, he was just telling me about it. Utterly devastating for all there family and friends.

This is tragic. Obviously we don't know the circumstances but it looks like another man unable to cope with something so he takes the whole family with him. Makes me so angry for his wife and daughter. She was four years old. Poor little soul. It's heartbreaking.

KaySqueeHarker · 29/12/2009 16:29

It just happened in America too, didn't it? Truly horrific.

Missus84 · 29/12/2009 16:32

God, men like this are such egotistical bastards. Why can't they do everyone a favour and just take themselves out?

yerblurt · 29/12/2009 18:30

Absolutely horrendous.

He was obviously unhinged to do this - how could anyone be 'well' enough to kill their own children, their ex partner and then top themselves?

Totally tragic.

I know it's not related at all, but over christmas we found out that my one of my partner's cousins has topped himself. He was found hanged in the garage. He and his wife had recently separated and they have a gorgeous little girl aged about 4/5yrs. He obviously could not cope with the separation and being apart from his child and chose to kill himself. I cannot understand that either, but he must have been so in the pits of desperation and depression that he saw no other way out.

Heqet · 29/12/2009 19:00

Tragic. Really tragic.

Sometimes, someone is so disturbed that they actually feel that they are helping those they kill. The report doesn't go into details, so he could have been an ex, or it could have been a family in a bad situation (financial or whatever) and he became unhinged. It wouldn't be the first time someone has taken out their family while the balance of their mind was disturbed. I have read reports of women killing their children and themselves. Clearly terribly wrong, but done while mentally ill and in the belief that they were 'saving' their family from a terrible life.

With the lack of details given, there is no way to know whether this man was evil or mentally ill.

That poor woman and child. What a terrible thing.

I have just heard this on the news.

The poor mother, losing her child days after Christmas.

AboardtheAxiom · 29/12/2009 19:18

Is the mum still alive then? I don't think I could go on if it were me

How awful.

FabIsGoingToBeFabIn2010 · 29/12/2009 19:27

Yes, she is seriously injured but alive.

Just speculating, but maybe yet another few victims of our broken society and a possible dispute over contact arrangements during the festive period.

Thought as much...

unbalanced minds coupled with despair is a tragedy. Always curious though how people, usually men, manage to procure firearms. We do have gun control in this country for good reasons.

And young Charlie Sheen isn't exactly helping the situation either.

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 29/12/2009 19:53

I wonder if he's in the army? Isn't Aldershot a big army type town. Maybe thats how he was able to have a gun?

LordPanofthePeaks · 29/12/2009 19:53

good point stripey.

nannynick · 29/12/2009 20:02

The house isn't in army area but that doesn't mean he wasn't in army, or was ex-army.
The gun may have been licensed though, at this stage I don't think details have been released.

Tragic end to that families Christmas. Grandparents (if there are any alive) must be devastated.

Imagine explaining to your child that their friend has died... not going to be easy for anyone who knew that family.

MollieO · 29/12/2009 20:49

A report I heard was that it wasn't army related. So so sad.

Janos · 29/12/2009 20:49

This incredibly sad.

However, please don't imply that this was down to a custody issue.

The vast majority of separated and divorced parents (many of whom are posting on here)manage to get through this awful, traumatic experience without killing or otherwise physically harming their children.

Otherwise, this would happen an awful lot more than it actually does.

Men like this are controlling and violent - they lose control and punish their wives. Incredibly selfish.

You very rarely hear about women killing their children in cutody disputes or to hurt their ex - but I have equal contempt for them too. There was a case quite recently of a woman who stabbed her teenage daughter/s I believe.

Mothers who kill their children tend more to be cases of severe mental illness - for example schizophrenics who believe they are saving their children from the devil - or depressed mothers who can't cope.

Men (since it's nearly always men) killing their families because of the shame of financial problems or to punish ex-wives are a totally different issue. It's about control, ego, violence.

This was the mother who stabbed her teenage daughters:
