Story from BBC news site tonight.

I just do not understand people like this

The poor children, left alone while she gets off her face on drink and drugs.

I hope she loses the kids for good.

oh if only she were a one off.
SHame on her.

Tryharder · 16/11/2009 18:43

I think we can presume she's not a mumsnetter

AnyFucker · 16/11/2009 18:45

more shocking is that she walked free from court !!

the footage of the awful house with chairs pushed up against the kitchen units was chilling

edam · 16/11/2009 18:46

Good grief. Poor mites.

vengeful, story says her children are with their grandparents.

MalibooStacey · 16/11/2009 18:47

Hm
i presume her risk of reoffending is minmal - presume kids are in care..
oyu cant send anyone to prison these days if the snetence can be reasonably suspended, for 2 years is a while,, and a curfew too

Yes I know. That's why I said "for good". I hope they stay there and do not go back to her.

where is the punishment for the crime though ?

she must be rubbing her hands in glee, got rid of the kids for a while (of course they will be handed back after a "respectable" time with gp's)... so she can go out on the piss as much as she likes

fucking cow

and that is swearing

LadyBlaBlah · 16/11/2009 18:51

Sorry but I do feel some sympathy for her - how on earth do we think it is OK to leave a 22 year old with 4 very young children and and not have one of the fathers around?

If she had no support at all, it is fairly understandable that after a bottle or 2 of wine, she lost sight of her responsibilities.

AnyFucker · 16/11/2009 18:53

oh give over lady

bleeding hearts- pah !

HeadFairy · 16/11/2009 18:53

the line that brought tears to my eyes was "The four-year-old girl had tried to feed the baby by using chairs to climb up to a kitchen cupboard and reach a tin of milk powder". I absolutely hate people like this

Littlepurpleprincess · 16/11/2009 18:54

The little 4 year old trying to feed the baby broke my heart, poor little mite. She has a greater sense of responsabilty for the baby than the mother does, and shes 4!

HeadFairy · 16/11/2009 18:54

Obviously, don't hate the 4 year old girl... hate her so called mother. Hormones have played havoc with my ability to construct a sentence!

It is hideous but putting someone in jail won't stop this happening again

MalibooStacey · 16/11/2009 18:56

well a curfew is quite tough and she will have some supervision form probation, the prob with custodial is that the min you are out that is it - no help at all , she obv is an addict of some type too.
i dont excuse it btu part of sentencing MUST be to stop reoffending as wellas punishing..

thedollshouse · 16/11/2009 18:59

It makes me sad that people like her have 4 children in the first place, she obviously isn't a fit mother. When you read threads by people who have lost children and the heartbreak of infertile couples it makes you so angry.

MalibooStacey · 16/11/2009 18:59

She might have been good once I supose

wonder where the dad/s were

spicemonster · 16/11/2009 19:02

I want to be a bleeding heart liberal and say that she's probably been abused and having children is the only way she can ever get love but I can't get my head around this.

She's behaving like a child and I hope her children get taken into care. She doesn't deserve them

MIFLAW · 16/11/2009 19:03

Does anyone think, just maybe, that this woman might have some sort of problem with alcohol and/or substances, i.e. a recognised illness, rather than doing this for a laugh?

That doesn't make the behaviour any more acceptable or the results any less sad - but it does explain what really are not rational actions and might, just might, turn this woman into a mother somewhere further down the line.

Just a thought.

Northernlurker · 16/11/2009 19:06

Lady - lots of people have many children, crap home situations and no support - but they don't all leave a 3 month old baby and other children under the age of 5 for 24 hours so they can go out drinking. I agree the woman in this case had major problems - but her response is simple cruelty. Best case scenario would have been she came back to four kids who had something to eat somehow - although how a four year old could have been expected to make up a bottle without scalding herself makes me feel sick -far more likely they would have had nothing to eat in 24 hours amd worst case they would be dead or seriously injured. What did she think was going to happen - I don't understand how any family stress etc coulc act on you in that way to leave those children for so long but still have you capable of going home in the end.

That four year old - trying to feed her borther, leaning out of the window and crying. That kid deserves so much better and I hope she is getting it.

AnyFucker · 16/11/2009 19:06

well too late for that really miflaw (with these kids anyway, no doubt she will have another set sometime soon....)

because this woman is lucky she is not up on a manslaughter charge

it is a miracle the poor mites didn't hurt themselves/burn the plade down/have a horrible accident/get out of the house and run into the road

ffs, she should be punished more

what sort of message is this ?

SolidGoldBangers · 16/11/2009 19:08

Well it sounds to me like she is suffering from depression and addictions issues and not rational.
More importantly though, shouldn't the fathers of her DC be pretty fucking ashamed of themselves? She didn't get PG on her own, and if these men didn't want to be in a couple-relationship with her because, perhaps, of her drink problems, then why weren't they paying attention to the DC's wellbeing?

beanieb · 16/11/2009 19:09

I hope she gets the help she so desperately needs really. When I read the story I am afraid I got mega judgy about the 4 kids so young but realise that this kind of attitude is pretty wrong when she obvioulsy needs help. The kids are now with the grandparents but it does make me wonder what kind of parents they must be (assuming it's her parents who have them) if they managed to bring someone up who is obviously lacking self-esteem.

I guess this makes me a bleeding heart liberal of some kind.

bibbitybobbityhat · 16/11/2009 19:11

I fail to understand the lack of punishment also. Surely this is a very serious crime? Am truly baffled.
