I really feel for the poor vitims of this. YEs the parents of the violent boys should take responsibility for their childrens upbringing but at the age of 10 and 11 they should know right from wrong.

Im forever watching my children when out playing now as ds is only just younger than the youngest victim.

Just read your comment Fattie and can I just say at which point did I should for them to throw away the key?

As I have clearly said about 40 times now I think they need to be locked up whilst they get intensive therapy and rehab because clearly for the sake f others and themselves they need it.

If you want to take that personally well feel free, I'm not going to sit and be PC all the time for fear of offending someone because if I was well I would never open my mouth. I said it would be different if these boys had SN but there has been nothing to indicate this as of yet.

When there is I will fully take back my statement until then I still think they should be locked up for atleast a year fir the sake of others.

Interesting thread.

I haven't read every post so correct me if I am wrong, but I get the feeling from this thread that only NT people should suffer full punishment for their crimes.

I agree that we shouldn't be seeking to lock up or even necessarily punish people with severe mental problems, who can't tell right from wrong nor understand the consequences of their actions.

However, I am puzzled by the idea that otherwise functional people without empathy should also be exempt from punishment for hurting others. Surely it is not whether they feel their victims' pain that should count in criminal responsibility but whether they understand that it is considered wrong and will be punished severely.

A lot of gruesome murders are committed by psychopaths/sociopaths - people with no empathy, no apparent conscience, unable to control aggressive impulses. Yet we have no problem locking them up. So don't really think that empathy or its lack thereof is a determining factor in criminal responsibility.
