I work where one of the Bulger murderers was placed. Yes there is access to playstations etc- but equally there is also structured education and intense psychological therapies. They are not all sat around eating pizzas and playing on the Wii.

QuantitativeMeasure · 06/04/2009 19:55

'bulger murderers'- Sorry that sounds really insensitive.

James Bulger murderers.

sorry

TheMightyBoosh · 06/04/2009 19:56

No it was my turn of phrase- just a quick term, didnt mean anything by it.

QuantitativeMeasure · 06/04/2009 19:58

Sorry TMB- I wasnt really referring to you

Just commenting briefly about it.

TheMightyBoosh · 06/04/2009 20:01

No tis Ok LOL (I am peachy btw, I name changed and now MN wont let me switch back- my PC laying up)

QuantitativeMeasure · 06/04/2009 20:02

Ah hello Peachy

Hulababy · 06/04/2009 20:02

A number of my relatives live in Edlington. My dad lived there when young too. I think it is fair to say that it really isn't the best place in Doncaster, but even so. It is dreadful. The victims according to thw news a couple of minutes ago are only 9, and the suspects just 11y. Horrible that children can do this to another child.

KimiWantsAnEasterEgg · 06/04/2009 20:05

It is an evil world we live in, although sadly I will put money on some people defending this vermin, blame the parents, society, video games....

It is heart breaking what people will do to each other bad enough adults but when it is children there is no hope.

smallorange · 06/04/2009 20:07

The kids won't be identified by the media as they are too young and the whole case is subject to contempt of court anyway.

wannaBe · 06/04/2009 20:14

the only similarity to the james bulger case is that the boys being questioned were of similar age to those who murdered James bulger. But in reality the similarity ends there as the two injured boys were also of a similar age to the boys being questioned.

And tbh I think that headlines (in the daily mail obviously) like "bulger mother's distress at torture," are just sensationalist and detract totally away from the case in question here.

This is not, IMO, an appropriate case to ignite a debate on James Bulger's killers. Regardless of opinion they have served their sentences and are free to live their lives now. However there are two other children, one of whom is in a serious condition in hospital, who deserve justice.

I also think that the parents of the perpitrators (and obviously we don't know who they are and whether it even is the two boys being questioned atm) should be thoroughly investigated. Because children of that age do not just become evil like that. There has to be some responsibility on the part of the adults in their lives surely.

wannaBe · 06/04/2009 20:17

Kimmy, when an 11 year old commits such a horrific act I think it is right to question what kind of parenting they have.

Children raised to be decent upstanding members of society don't just turn like that. There is generally an influence which leads them in the wrong direction, unless they are suffering from some kind of mental illness.

2shoestrodonalltheeggs · 06/04/2009 21:24

any news on how the vitims are?

Hulababy · 06/04/2009 21:29

No further news on BBC - just says one has had surgery for arm injuries and the other is critical but stable

Apparently the two arrested boys had recently been placed in foster care.

2shoestrodonalltheeggs · 06/04/2009 21:43

poor little lads, I hope thay get better soon. It must be such a horrid time for their parents.

everGreensleeves · 06/04/2009 21:44

I don't think referring to disturbed children as "vermin" contributes anything helpful

lubblyjubblies · 06/04/2009 22:24

The accused are brothers, therefore you realistically have to look at the home environment these kids have been brought up in

2shoestrodonalltheeggs · 06/04/2009 22:26

how sad that people seem more interested in the boys who did this, and making excuses for them

paisleyleaf · 06/04/2009 22:57

Saying about the homelife of the boys being questionned......they said on the news that they have been in care.

everGreensleeves · 06/04/2009 23:36

Perhaps it has to do with wanting to understand the root causes of this type of behaviour, with a view to preventing it from happening again in the long-term?

But of course it's easier to condemn them as "vermin"

How very, very sad. I tru;y hope that the boys recover quickly and that this doesn't become a terrible James Bulger rehash and subsequent witch hunt.

noddyholder · 07/04/2009 08:47

2shoes I don't think anyone is making excuses.just trying to find reasons. When I look at my ds I know he would never do anything like that because he has been loved educated and encouraged his whole life but according to the papers today when questioned the parents of one said 'What has it got to do with me?'which says it all really. Can't believe anyone really called 2 boys vermin on a parenting site

Hulababy · 07/04/2009 08:56

No more updates on BBC.

It is al very sad. Hope the victims pull through ok.

It is also very sad about the boys accused of doing it. It already sounds like there are problems there, so I think it is normal to question what has happened and why, and if their are factors in their backgrounds that might have led to this.

Now this area of Doncaster does have a bad reputation generally, but it is also a bit of a vilage affair where people know one another's business and will support one another.

edam · 07/04/2009 09:05

Times says the boy who was most severely injured has been taken off the critical list (which is a journo way of saying his life is no longer in danger).

Seems the attackers are actually in care atm. And were already being questioned about an earlier attack - had been or had failed to attend an interview that morning. Which raises the question, why on earth were the foster parents/children's home allowing them to roam the streets?

Don't think you can blame the village, Times says they had only been there for three weeks.

But Doncaster SS might be a factor, given it's already been exposed for dreadful failures and there are serious case reviews into the deaths of seven children.

FAQinglovely · 07/04/2009 09:10

edam - yes the S Yorks police website yesterday says

"He has been taken off a ventilator in the intensive care unit and placed on a high dependency ward. This morning he was described as 'stable'."

so still very will sounds like he's improving.

Don't like the use of "venim" when talking about children of that age.
