Andy Burnham just doesn't get it does he, we don't want anymore migrants/illegals put anywhere not in rich or poor areas we want to stop them coming here full stop.

I feel horrible saying this because genuinely most the men I’ve encountered (poor area pleb myself) have been lovely to me and showed me nothing but respect and kindness. But I’d just much rather we homed women and children.
I gave a young man a hug a few weeks ago, he was missing his mum in Pakistan and was telling me, I’m approx his mothers age so I said I might not be your mam but come here and we had a hug. He told me an elderly lady who was watching him (a group of lads, not specifically him) playing cricket in the park reminded him of his grandmother and she also hugged him when he said he was missing his grandma.
The issue I have is because I’ve been lucky with the men I’ve encountered, I know other women haven’t been. So I’m very cautious to say not wanting more men here stems from racism, sometimes it stems from genuine fear.
I wonder if it’s more we fear groups as opposed to individuals. Maybe it’s the ratio of people and we need time to adjust to that. Just musing, it’s a topic you can’t please everyone with but I’m sure somewhere there is an approach that isn’t just racist and also an approach that keeps people safe. No idea how we get there, but surely there is a way.

Yes

None of us want them. Not one single one.

Notmycircusnotmyotter · Yesterday 12:24

I've seen my own area's demographic change. I'm moving somewhere less diverse.

Really? Because less affluent people really have the means to just up sticks and move to more expensive areas don’t they?

If the UK has to house them then there's no reason why the leafy village NIMBYs shouldn't take their share.

How do you propose we afford to house people in the leafy villages? A three bedroomed house in my area is £450k plus to buy and £1800 pcm to rent, except there aren’t any homes to rent, none. This is the case in many areas. Zero rentals available. Are they going to commandeer the village Hall!

They should probably put them in Lib Dem areas like the Cotswolds

I think Piddington is Lib Dem. They’re still a (more polite) no.

Eh? The same way they’re doing it everywhere else. They’re not buying up small homes to house asylum seekers 😂

This is a village with 400 residents. The placing of 1200 young males within walking distance is obviously going to be problematic because there is NO infrastructure to support them! No shops, no medical centre, no dentist, no bank, no regular bus service, no employment, no nothing.
Placing these men in this situation is doing them absolutely no favours.

A delicious and clever move by Burnham. The squeals and sounds of horror from heretofore homogenous towns and villages are louder than the BBQ wildfire alerts.

Yawn.
Nobody is illegal.

Of course they are. 🙄

Enter the a country illegally, paying people smugglers who are criminals and you are illegal migrant.

Policing language won’t change the facts. No one is confused.

Absolutely. Pretzel language, we all know about the legalities of travel and having legal documentation.

Lol, same problem in many of the cities that migrants have been put in for years.

It doesn't stop them so I'm sure they'll find a way to make it work for the NIMBYs too.

Just stop it. People are not illegal. So fucking tired of this reactionary racist shite on here and everywhere.

You do not speak for me so stop saying 'we' when you're parroting Nigel racist fuckface thanks.

Is that you Rachel Maskell?

1500 men into a village of 600 residents.
Everyone who thinks this is a great idea should sign up to accommodate them 😂

But the truth is that they are coming illegally. I mean, I would love to move to Norway as they have such a great standard of living. But there is just one problem…

When we were members of the EU you could have emigrated to Norway quite easily.

They will private bus the young males to towns with shops and have their own medical facilities in the barracks, visiting GPs, etc. This is important because some/most of those males will have HIV, TB, hepatitis and syphilis. Those first 3 need extensive and expensive treatment on the NHS and it would be too much for a village GP to be expected to cope with.

Are brown people statistically more liable to sexually abuse women? Do you have any research for this?

It is brown people we are talking about. No one is complaining about Australians are they?

The Australians probably share religion and cultural values

hattie43 · Yesterday 12:58

Why not just move them to where people are happy
to have them . Perhaps the PP on this thread can share their address .
The problem is no-one wants them , not France not us .

Cultural integration is an issue in countries that welcomed these groups with open arms. I’m not sure we have the stomach for it.

Lots of people take those diseases very seriously which is a good job given your obvious hilarity over it.
