Andy Burnham says wealthy areas must house more migrants after leafy village revolts over 1,250 asylum seekers

Andy Burnham just doesn't get it does he, we don't want anymore migrants/illegals put anywhere not in rich or poor areas we want to stop them coming here full stop.

We currently have 245 who are supported (but we have a lot more who are settled, because we started taking them earlier).
Another council in our region has double the population and 4x the number being supported so based on the ratio of our populations (their district is twice the size of ours) I'd say we'd work well with 500 supported asylum seekers.
We are fairly rural and have a lot of small villages, though most of the housing is in a small town OR in the barracks which are in a small village (2000 in village and hamlets).
We do get refugees with settled status staying here though as they have children in school.
So while those living in barracks (singles or families) can't carry on living in villages, those in housing can and those with families probably will.
This is unlike either the squaddies or the single men who will get out as soon as they can.

Also, the number seeking asylum has dropped. Don't think anyone on here has admitted to that.

nor do any of the other racists or fascist adjacent posters on this topic. People are not illegal. They may arrive by illegal means- but only because there are no legal means to gain asylum in most places. I don’t understand why we do not have a home office outpost in Calais which would mean legal means exist. I so wish people would stop reading and listening to the anti immigration rubbish scum media and equally scum political parties feed them.

We need more people like you, how many refugees do you currently house ? The more of you offer help with accommodation, the more it will help with reducing the tensions.

Could do with spreading them around as my small city has so many migrants now it has changed hugely. However not sure I would be too pleased with them being housed in expensive and gorgeous areas most of us can't afford to live in either. That really would change the character of the country.

Since nobody had a problem with Ukrainian refugees (presumably because they were mostly female, rather than just ‘not brown’) can’t we just get rid of all the men? Not just the brown ones, all of them. Ship them all off somewhere else, since they’re all potentially dangerous to women and children. Why stop with the foreign ones?

You're entitled not to want these men are treated and dispute that they even are so treated. I for one think they should be treated by the NHS no matter how expensive and extensive that treatment. You are entitled not to want this.

I don’t know why you keep saying this. What good will it do me to email my MP and tell them I’d like a barracks built in my densely populated area which clearly has no space for one?

Regardless of anything else in these posts we are absolutely the 51st state. We get bullied by America, either in an overtly bullying way like Trump does it, or in a more charming way a la Obama. We have very little autonomy.

I doubt this is right. Why would they raise rent caps for HMOs, HMOs don’t even have rent caps and AS aren’t entitled to housing (or any other) benefits anyway.

Do you know what a house is? You say barracks are not possible for you. But if you say to your MP you’re keen to have men waiting for asylum accommodated nearby I’m sure they’ll be delighted.

Mine was a tongue in cheek comment. I have no idea what the heck is going to happen, it might all just be a klaxon and no resulting issue. Who knows? But what has happened is a realisation from those heretofore insulated from the arrival of the dinghy dahlings that it might affect them too.

Makes everyone think, respond, react either positively or negatively, but it gets the narrative going amongst those who really didn't have to or want to participate up to now, apart from telling the rest of us what we should do.

The people living in expensive areas perhaps need to realise what they are voting for.

A few months ago during the local elections I visited a very affluent village, which has stunning views of the countryside, an old village shop, honesty boxes for eggs, a charming tea room etc. Detached houses there cost over £1.5m, small terraces about £600k.

About 95% of them had a ‘vote Green’ sticker in their window.

Maybe they will welcome having some asylum seekers housed there.

This is silly.

First of all, quantity is in play.

Second, people who come from a particular area tend to be a comparable colour.

I would think that the colour of these men is the last thing people have an issue with.

They usually come from very conservative countries whose cultures expect very different things from their women, and allow very different behaviors in their men.

Most of these men will be fine at home in that they conform to the cultural construct of the place.

Transferred here though, that culture will play (for us) as sexist and conservative, with layers of misogyny rolled in.

The simple, easy to see values around women's dress - covered hair or mini skirts for example, versus deeper beliefs around sex before marriage and what that indicates, for them, in the value of a woman.

I do think that the racism accusations around this issue are extremely unfair, even though there will be some - 'cause people 'init?

The Ukranians were proper refugees fleeing war, the so called irregulars/illegals call them what you want who cross the Channel and have paid people smugglers lots of money to get here are not.
