To be ashamed that we have caused people of this country to live in fear?

Watching news. People, ordinary people apart from the colour of their skin, are being threatened, their business ruined, and are petrified to step outside.
Because a few ignorant, selfish, thuggish women and men, who don't have the wit to understand that social media spouts false information.
They don't want to understand what is happening, their herd mentality kicks in and off they go. They even take their kids. A new summer holiday past-time
What a disgusting country this has become

It's sad. Using a tragedy to fuel their racism, it makes me and my family feel unsafe. The people rioting don't have a lot of brains unfortunately. Mindless thugs.

LydiaTomos · 06/08/2024 06:50

I'm not part of the "we" OP. Why do you count yourself as part of this group? I have the same colour skin as the rioters, but that's were any similarities end.

Scarletrunner · 06/08/2024 07:02

I blame the Gov. I can remember people complaining locally back in the early 2000s that incomers were getting the council houses. Who knows if that is true or not but no one has openly published figures to prove it's not.
So it's been 20 years of people moaning and nothing was ever done by any Gov.

Likewise. "We" haven't done anything. Plus, it's overwhelmingly men doing this.

How is it in your ivory tower? I've felt fear from certain men trying to get me into their cars, following me home, preaching on the streets.

It is a form of expression, for heaven's sake! Using 'we' is commonly accepted as a form of writing or speaking

We haven't. It's a small number of people in a country of 60 million.

The rest of us are disgusted at their behaviour.

What on earth are you talking about?
How is my post 'ivory tower'?
Oh, of course 'certain men'...

But we don't agree with you, OP.

Because you've clearly not lived near these areas. Yes, it is always certain men.

LennyBalls · 06/08/2024 07:25

I am a white woman married to a white man with two teenage white children. This is not in our name. I am ashamed about what is happening in this country.

BCBird · 06/08/2024 07:27

It is not a disgusting country. It is a great country with a few behaving in a disgusting way

You have no idea where I live, where I have lived, with whom I live (nor the colour of their skin/cultural background)
I would say, leapping to the conclusions in the way you just have, absolutely ilustrates the problem.
Aand if you watch the footage, ther's plenty of women and young kids in attendance.

But the poster has given you a view and you've just dismissed it with silly comments because it doesn't suit the message you're trying to send.

Most people agree the riots are mindless thuggery.

And by “certain men” you mean “foreigners”? I was sexually assaulted three times, twise by white males and once by a white woman. It’s not “always certain men”

That's an all-men problem, aside from the preaching. And yes I have lived in a multicultural area, albeit 20 years ago before the Tories and Brexit poisoned the country. I felt safe, no more or less so than when I lived elsewhere.

I’ve lived all over this country in all manner of areas in terms of ethnicity, income levels etc.

I’ve had to get away from more white men and had more fear of white men than any other ethnicity.

I am sad, ashamed and furious about this riots. They are not protests.

Your specific situation (which I'm sure is definitely not a typical middle class Mumsnetter at all) doesn't really change the fact that many on here display ivory tower views.

The poster is talking about what happened to her aka her experience.

Guess what we lead different lives, different things happen to us and we have different experiences.

Shouldn't be accused for not taking a wider, educated view. Have a lovely start to your Tuesday, I guess stamping on another woman's experience has more of a kick than a cup of coffee.

Funny that, it’s happened to me WOC. All those things you listed by men from varying races. Not just those that are not white.

@FinalInstructionstotheAudience I have many friends who feel just as you do. I am currently living in fear in a country I was born in, I work tirelessly for, I contribute towards. Thank you.

StormingNorman · 06/08/2024 07:34

Too many unhappy people are focusing their anger and frustrations at the wrong people. I am embarrassed to live in a country where this is happening. I am embarrassed the Tories incited racism and allowed the racists to feel comfortable airing their dirty little opinions.

I’m ashamed of this country to be honest. I thought we were better than that. The rioters are destroying the England I want to protect.

Wow, again people making wild assumptions, and being so proud and sure of them, they will post in public?
Such talent. You should be a profiler

The poster generalised by saying “always certain men”. I am clarifying what she meant and offering my experience to show it is not always certain men. Why is me saying that is invalidating her experience but you writing your post doing the same with mine is acceptable to you?
