The chat appears to have gone quiet today after the last thread filled up, so I'm making a new one for anyone who wants to come together whilst we all hold our breath hoping for a good outcome.

I genuinely am baffled by all these threads.

Are any of you close friends or family?
It makes me feel uncomfortable that you're all here, discussing and dissecting something that is so tragic and life changing for her actual loved ones.

I'm not surprised threads keep being removed, let's hope it continues.

I suspect the family wouldn’t feel this way. Yes, there are always incredibly insensitive and mindblowingly thick people, but worse than people saying awful things about a missing person case is people not saying anything at all.

Shewasnthere · 11/02/2023 20:36

@Schnittlauch but unfortunately this is time we live in, social media is now exactly where people speculate and discuss things. We are an online society. Every thread on this website is distasteful then if you think about it like that.

scottishclive · 11/02/2023 20:38

I don't think the body will ever be found, it's either in the sea now or wherever she ended up. Very sad for all concerned, but think this case will linger for another few weeks and then drop off the media cycle.

In October though?

Yeah I know - just the same description that has been floating about this week. Probably just some poor plumber going about his day (which is why I covered the reg!) I don't live local so no idea why a van would cause concern in the area anyway - but I live in a city where a 'strange van' wouldn't even be noticed, nevermind posted on FB.

I'm not even sure why the 'tatty red van' is even relevant, or who first mentioned it tbh.

I live in a village. Our Facebook group is littered with posts like these "van with two people in seen on Church gardens, could be suspicious", "saw someone get out of a van on the high street, never seen them before, just thought I'd mention it", and other similar crap.

The odd thing about the post screenshotted above is that someone has searched the reg (people do that here too, usually "MOT out of date, someone should inform the police" etc) and it was registered to a different vehicle. So that is odd.

It is the difference between fading into oblivion with no answers or keeping the momentum going. I know which i would choose.

If Nicola ever entered the water, sadly this is looking increasingly likely. Lancashire Police's focus on the bench area of the river may have resulted in other areas being overlooked at a critical time - for example, the area upstream of the bench appeared to have been 'missed' altogether by the police dive team and was only searched for the first time this week.

It’s not insensitive to discuss something that the families want discussed. This is evident from the many families of missing people that are questioning why their missing relatives aren’t being discussed! Yes occasionally there might be comments which are unfortunate but overall any discussion is better than none!

People go missing in the UK every 90 seconds, why is this the only time people care?

dawngreen · 11/02/2023 20:47

What about all the other social media sites, all posting about this case. I think it reminds ppl of other missing ppl that have not got as much attention. I an sorry if you feel upset about this talk. But maybe you can avoid this one and post on the other subjects here if you prefer? Its human nature to ask questions about things. Myself I see this area as a place we can talk . I doubt whether the family would be here. I am not travelling to gawp there or bother them unlike the ppl there.

I think that sadly you are spot on. Its an utter tragedy and I have said this on another forum. I think the interview last night (Friday) although I haven't seen it may well have been family driven to keep this poor lady in the headlines. Personally I am not too sure about foul play etc and wonder if this was either a tragic accident OR this poor lady suffered a "medical episode" and fell in the river and sadly things went dreadfully dreadfully wrong from there. I very much suspect that in the coming days the investigation will be wound down. The police are very convinced that she is in the river and obviously phone data may well be all the proof they need. Having said that, I note that her Strava routine was pretty public for all to see. I did put a note on my Works Whatsapp Group to gently nudge my lovely friends that if they have Strava or suchlike to check their settings and make utterly sure that they are private.

I am glad Nicola’s partner is now calling publicly for a land search. Two weeks on how can the police still justify not doing this?!
We have been calling for this since the first thread - collective instinct is very powerful.

Ontobetterthings · 11/02/2023 20:54

Where can I watch the documentary?

lemmein · 11/02/2023 20:57

@VanGoghsDog I think the poster had just inputted the wrong number/letter. The end of the reg is OOU, so I'm guessing they put zeros in instead. I've just checked and it's a red transit van.

Does anyone know what land searches were done around the area when Nicola first went missing? The police categorically stated that there was no evidence of any criminal involvement so they must have searched thoroughly.

They surely must have searched the banks from level with the place in the field where she was last seen and the bench where belongings found, and a reasonable side beyond each. Looking for signs of disturbance that might mean entry to the water

Bluebellwood129 · 11/02/2023 21:05

@RoseAndRose Yes, that what I thought. If that was done properly, it's hard to accept there was any third party involvement but equally, none of the other scenarios seem plausible either anymore.

The vast majority turn up quickly. Those that remain missing do get discussed online. I mentioned on the other thread about Marion Barter who went missing in 1997; Steven Clark who disappeared from Saltburn in equally bizarre circumstances is still discussed today; Lisa Dorrian went missing in 2005 and has a Twitter following, and a lady who lived not far from me who vanished in 2018 is often still commented on in local news. Madeleine McCann too.

It's weird to pretend people only care about NB.

This person's opinion is no more credible than other so called experts who have criticised the police's hypothesis. Everyone has differing opinions and no one knows who's right or wrong. None of them will have access to all of the information related to the case.

I don't know the answer either way
I just share the current news stories 👍
