The chat appears to have gone quiet today after the last thread filled up, so I'm making a new one for anyone who wants to come together whilst we all hold our breath hoping for a good outcome.

@Jourdain11 I completely agree with you

Peverellshire · 12/02/2023 13:43

@Crumpetdisappointment the daughter-in-law alerted the school.

Willow was tied to bench for just slightly short of 2 hours & but was phone left on bench for x2 hours?

Who was the man this woman interacted with who suggested Nicola had had a ‘medical event’ at water’s edge & Willow probably ‘lured’ there by fishing bait?

Was he the elderly man the police appealed for early on? Does anyone know??

So, according to Lancs article up thread there were five or six people, then, including witness woman at 9:33am close to bench?

"Police wrong to say Nicola Bulley is in river, former Met officer says"

Yet this "expert" says she likely is in the river! I think they all have their own opinions, does not mean anyone is right or wrong

I could not agree more with @Jourdain11 She is spot on and I've raised it a couple of times myself plus reported to HQ

Some posters - and they know who they are - are so embarrassingly over invested that it almost beggars belief. It's so crass and creepy

Shewasnthere · 12/02/2023 13:44

@OnthePisteAgain there are things that have been put on these threads that all of us won't agree with. They've been challenged or deleted. The majority of us are having a discussion. So no, you're not a troll if you don't agree with part of the discussion. But to keep coming on to tell us all off, is weird in itself and yes, trolling the thread. Anyway I've seen another poster saying to stop feeding the trolls which is probably what I'm doing. So I won't comment again about it.

I agree. If they'd left that bit out of their comms and just said they were looking at all possibilities they wouldn't have had so many people convinced they were incompetent. Their dogged insistance that she was in the river led people to believe that they weren't carrying out anything but the most cursory investigations outside that theory.

@FeetupTvon I think this case has been blown up mainly because it is so bizarre that a normal everyday women, walking her dog has disappeared with out what seems like a trace, leaving the dog behind. Lots of people men and women can relate to doing this simple act of dropping kids off at school and walking their dog. It was in the morning, not at night. She was on a work call when her phone and dog were found with her no where to be seen. I don't remember another case like this, correct me if I'm wrong.

I think it provides a great incentive for us all
to get chipped so we can be easily tracked down if we go missing. Imagine if Nicola was, she’d have been found in a couple of hours.

Shewasnthere · 12/02/2023 13:55

@sadieshavingashindig explain why it's wrong. The general discussion, what is wrong about it? No one is pointing the finger at the family here. So why does it unsettle you so much. I genuinely want to understand.

Jourdain11 · 12/02/2023 13:55

Discussion usually involves an exchange of views! Not just an echo-chamber with any dissenters being called trolls. Honestly, if it were my family or friend I would be so distraught for their situation to be discussed in this way. As pp, and I, previously said, just because you can doesn't mean you should.

Again, as pp have said, some people may be interested in general discussion, expression of empathy, even points like the one made about water safety. I saw a news item about this and realised that I'm frighteningly clueless about river and canal safety, despite having kids and living very close to one! But people might click on this thread expecting to find that kind of discussion and - no.

It's not just Mumsnet, you should see Reddit, Webslueths, the FB group that has been set up and the comments on press articles if you really want to see absolutely vile comments. MN is very tame so calling people on here sick weirdos is a bit OTT!

Peverellshire · 12/02/2023 13:59

@OnthePisteAgain the view seems to be not in area of river by bench, but another part, as Spt Riley says investigations show we can’t ‘rule out’ she was ‘ever in the water’

I think rather than gratuitous, armchair, sleuthing, any smart, educated critical thinker (demographic here) can see a whole host of anomalies. It’s all very confusing & unsettling. Shocking, how can she vanish? What can be done?

We’re all shocked and stunned & thinking about her family. We can all identify with Nicola & greatly empathise. For those of us not too far away, another woman was missing/attacked, many of us are a bit wary & nervous.

The police say no third party & she’s ‘in the river’?

Problem for me with the two suspicions men s you normally get one lunatic abductor, never two people

There were the Railway Killers, John Duffy and David Mulcahy

Does it fuck. Chilling.

melonraspberry · 12/02/2023 14:01

@Tidsleytiddy I sat in the trial of the second one to be arrested, it still sits with me, the feeling I had sitting behind him, of someone so utterly cold and devoid of emotion. And his wife in the gallery still supporting him. Chilling.

dawngreen · 11/02/2023 19:10

But it said she was still connected , even though the others had left.

I just actually could not imagine, how did she know it was connected to the teams when other participants left, when the phone was locked? Can someone see whats your phone on if it was locked? Sorry if its dumb question.

Peverellshire · 12/02/2023 14:03

@Goldpaw yes, this, see my PP.

Yet here you (still) are...

Goldpaw · 12/02/2023 14:06

There have been lots of posts over the threads about water safety, about many of us regularly walking alone along rivers and canals, about how the likes of Strava share walks etc. to the world, and about the possible dangers of sharing our lives openly on social media. So these threads have always had an element of encouraging us to think even more about these things.

melonraspberry · 12/02/2023 14:07

@Goldpaw yes it’s had that effect on me. I walk alone in much more secluded areas. But I’ve ordered an alarm and I’m thinking about getting an Apple Watch and allowing my dd’s phone to be able to track me. Not just out of fear, but for accidents etc.

melonraspberry · 12/02/2023 14:08

I’d never stop walking though. Fuck the evil bastards that prey on women.

Shewasnthere · 12/02/2023 14:08

@Jourdain11 with respect, we were happily discussing, you were disagreed with not for your input in the discussion but for calling us all weird.

And we are echoing what the family actually think too. Sometimes things can be shocking to read or hear about, but when you actually think about why it's wrong. Often people haven't got an answer.

Personally I think the people that are telling us not speculate, that hang off every word the police/media say are also the type of people that stock piled toilet paper & petrol when they were told there was a shortage. Rather than seeing, especially the petrol - the desperation to get rid of going out of date petrol. But anyway.

Yes the people telling folk off for discussing a high profile distressing case need to get off the Internet. Oh and don't buy any papers either..

Err...Leaving aside the just slightly significant civil liberties issues with doing that have you looked at the read distance for things like RFID chips (unpowered and powered)?

Rhondaa · 12/02/2023 14:10

'Personally I think the people that are telling us not speculate, that hang off every word the police/media say are also the type of people that stock piled toilet paper & petrol when they were told there was a shortage.'

Exactly. 'Don't speculate' is beyond ridiculous. Why not? We can still have sympathy for her family whole wondering wtf the police are doing.
