The chat appears to have gone quiet today after the last thread filled up, so I'm making a new one for anyone who wants to come together whilst we all hold our breath hoping for a good outcome.

I thought this was quite an interesting map from Reddit. It gives more detail about the fencing and gates.

@Jourdain11 If you're so weirded out and disgusted I suggest you definitely stay away from Facebook/twitter/reddit.

TrevTro · 12/02/2023 13:22

@Jourdain11

So many like you have told us all off for discussing it, yet added to the commentary themselves.

All inappropriate replies are reported, MNHQ rightfully have an eye on moderation and the majority of posters are just trying to process the events, lots are local and understandably very concerned.

Jourdain11 · 12/02/2023 13:22

There's a difference between "discussing" and obsessing, finger-pointing, amateur-detecting and invoking the expertise of clairvoyants. The first, yes, fine and human nature. But the extent and tone of this is weird and creepy. I don't know. I'm not going to stick around anyway.

Why are you appropriating some strangers' sad situation? Why would you need to "process" it? It seems screwed up to me and I don't honestly understand how I can be the only person who thinks this. But maybe I'm just odd.

'The dog looked worried so I tied her up and rushed home as I had to go to an appointment.
'I then went and spoke to my daughter-in-law and she immediately knew who the dog was, alerted the woman's partner and that was it - the police were on it"

but i thought the school rang the partner ?

I read the daughter in law is a school governor

Many, many people are watching this case closely. You don't want to, and that's fine.
You do you

There is literally something called Missing White woman syndrome. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Missing_white_woman_syndrome

Interesting that the article contrasts the behaviour rather than the colour of women who disappear. Rightly or wrongly, those who live racketty lives are less likely to attract public interest and sympathy than a respectable settled woman.

Shewasnthere · 12/02/2023 13:28

@Jourdain11 yes, you're right. Let's never care about anything other than things that are directly related to us. đŸ™„you're making it weird.

melonraspberry · 12/02/2023 13:30

@Needadoop very interesting post . I don’t agree with your analysis of her partner’s body language though. To me he looked like he thought she was dead. He is just in ‘fight’ mode as he searches for answers. I would be the same I think. The utter devastation will come later. He didn’t want to show his emotions on camera as it wouldn’t help - he’s entirely focused on what can help.
that’s my reading anyway.

melonraspberry · 12/02/2023 13:30

STOP FEEDING THE TROLL FOLKS !!

Crumpetdisappointment · 12/02/2023 13:30

Probably said already, apparently a person went missing at the exact same spot on same date 45 years ago, and did not surface for 2 months.... 7 miles downstream.

It appears likely that something similar may have happened to this poor woman and her family.

It's been said many times yes
The river was in flood that day and their was no weir then

Jourdain11 · 12/02/2023 13:34

I'm not a troll.

And I never said, let's not care about anything which doesn't affect us. But this is just level of obsessing is weird and I don't care if you think I'm a troll for saying it.

Oh, and I hate the expression "you do you".

AbsolutelyFuckingSick · 12/02/2023 13:35

No @Jourdain11 you're not the only one that thinks these bunch of miss marple wannabes are weird

Shewasnthere · 12/02/2023 13:35

Oh, they're all out in force now đŸ˜…

Thanks! I had started to think that one wasn't "allowed" to post on this thread unless you'd signed up to some kind of group think contract. I've seen totally harmless and provocative yet thoughtful and interesting threads pulled, so it seems odd that one so pointless and distasteful is allowed to remain. Especially a pity as some people might be interested to discuss the wider implications (ie missing people and women in particular) without all this speculation and appropriation, but they'll have no space to do so because presumably any thread of the topic goes the way of this one.

But yeah, apparently having a different opinion means I am a troll so...

So anyone that disagrees with some of the content of these threads is a troll?? I am interested in this case and find some of the discussion interesting but the level of obsession by some posters.. the finger pointing, making out they know better than the police is just well over the top.

purpledalmation · 12/02/2023 13:41

saw an interview with her partner and he seemed completely honest. Just so bewildered and overwhelmed by the situation and the suffering of his children. It was looked at by a behaviour panel of experts, who said too no deception.

They made the point that if women are killed by their partners its in an argument and in the home, which makes total sense, so I wish people would not speculate and put this poor man and his children through more hell than he is already going through.

Oaktree55 · 12/02/2023 13:42

It’s actually quite a useful and educational thread if for no other reason than educating on water safety, regardless of what happened to Nicola.
