I couldn't see another post so thought I'd create one.

There is a police press conference this afternoon. I can't see a time for this but it's sounding like a routine one.

Tweet from Peter Faulding

"Update: Today we carried out thorough side scan sonar searches in the non tidal section from the weir past the bench where Nicola’s phone was found and one kilometer upstream. Unfortunately there is still no sign of Nicola. We continue the search tomorrow. #nicolabulley"

The police officer who held the press briefing didn't inspire confidence.

Neither did the new head of the Met in his press briefing today.

It's so important to get policing right, and for the public to have confidence in the police. Surely the police can do better than this with their public interface? They just come over to me as arrogant and know it all which is not a good look.

@rumporolypolyofthebailey ive never seen any kind of boat there either. It’s quite shallow, ive swim in it in summer.

The last photo is interesting. It shows Rowanwater and if you zoom in, you can see their lake.
The fence is also climbable surely?

If the police have evidence that she is in the water, yet are withholding it from the public, then fair enough. But why then withold it from the family if no criminality is expected in this case? Isnt that just cruel?

I doubt that they will give a definite answer and say she’s in the water even if it’s very likely, as they can’t prove it without more evidence.

I assume this river connects with many others and I read that it has a string current in some places so surely she could have been carried quite far away by now.

That’s it’s none of the public’s business.

This exactly, their job is to find Nicola not provide the public with the missing pieces so they can attempt to solve the mystery themselves.

Nicknacky · 07/02/2023 18:47

Where have you heard that they haven’t told the family what they know?

The family have continued to say that they don't believe she was in the water. They even set up a Gofundme last night somewhat misguidedly. So no, the police haven't told the family if they have evidence that she is.

Diverging · 07/02/2023 18:52

I think the NCA has reviewed the procedures and found that Lancashire Constabulary have followed procedures.

Procedures for when they think someone has fallen into a river? They seemed not to be open to other hypotheses from early on even though there was no evidence supporting a fall into the river.

They are no further on than a week ago.

😂That's partly why lots people wouldn't consider to be police - can't win, mostly get blamed. Then you leave the recruitment pool with less inspiring candidates.

Please, give them a break. It's really easy to criticise when you aren't in their boots.

How many people seriously believe this is the case?

I know of a divisional commander who is a great public speaker, really confident and comes across well. However, he doesn’t have a clue about his operational officers, couldn’t pick them out of a crowd and hides in his office and very few officers have a lot of respect for him. The rank yes, the man no.

So don’t be fooled by a 20 minute briefing where she knows the eyes of the country are on her and she, and her team, are under pressure.

If she is a good leader and police officer then that is more important than a snapshot of her on tv, in my humble opinion.

Plenty on this thread it would seem

JaneJeffer · 07/02/2023 18:54

Well I disagree @Nicknacky why not just say we know for sure she went into the water at a certain point. I fail to see how the public knowing this would hamper the investigation.

They didn't find any other evidence of foul play or some! Falling in the water is one hypothesis that they could do something about, and that's what they did! They tried!

They kept appealing for evidence from lorries and drivers passing by.

A medium called Amanda Molloy has been asked to help out.

They’ve asked that people don’t take it upon themselves to look for her as apparently people are going into the river and dangerous abandoned buildings.

The police will be giving them updates frequently and whilst they won’t be told absolutely everything for operational reasons, they will be told a lot more than the general public has been told.

Sounds like things might be breaking down between the police and PF.... Can't say I'm surprised. He's adamant she can't be in there and must be getting very frustrated.

I didn’t say it would hamper the enquiry. I said it’s none of the publics business. Why do you need to know exactly what they know?

MaMisled · 07/02/2023 18:58

I'd accept any help, no matter how controversial.

@rumporolypolyofthebailey ive never seen any kind of boat there either. It’s quite shallow, ive swim in it in summer.

Is it deep enough for a dinghy, could it travel down stream to the estuary and then transfer to larger boat, speed boat for example.
