Missing Woman Nicola Bulley 3

I couldn't see another post so thought I'd create one.

There is a police press conference this afternoon. I can't see a time for this but it's sounding like a routine one.

The reports I’ve read are so conflicting - some saying there were strong currents; others saying the water was actually very still in the location where she would presumably have fallen in.
If she did fall in, why would she sink straight to the bottom where she fell, wouldn’t strong tidal currents drag the body further along the river? And potentially out to sea pretty quickly?

It's not tidal at that point.

Bluebellwood129 · 07/02/2023 18:22

They said that the National Crime Agency have reviewed it didn't they?

What does that actually mean and where is the evidence for this? Without more substance, it's little more than a throw away line in a press conference clearly designed to try and claw back public confidence. Was Sally Riley doubting her own ability to lead the investigation?

Activelyannoyed · 07/02/2023 18:22

If you listen to the officer, Riley. Who was doing the conference, she said repeatedly Nicola had been or went in the water. I can’t recall her exact words, but her actual phrasing indicated she didn’t think she was there any more, as in she maybe stuck on a bank somewhere, as in Nicola went in, drowned, and then got washed up on a bank somewhere. Which would explain why they can’t find her in the water. And would align with what the guy from humberside rescue said.

but again, all of us have watched the videos of the divers and dinghies, and the water certainly doesn’t look fast moving, in fact it’s almost glass like at parts.

but it seems that’s what they think, she’s drowned by accident and washed up and got stuck on undergrowth along a bank. They have six specialist people searching the banks, which is actually quite a lot if you think about it.

ShellsPebbles · 07/02/2023 18:22

BlueSphere · 07/02/2023 18:14

I think so too. Peter Faulding's comment "when Nicola went in", the police stating clearly they believe she went in and NB's sister's comment about if she needed space gives the whole situation a different spin. Th fact that it's all puzzling too. Perhaps she did just disappear but it's very very hard to believe that a doting mother would just leave her kids so from a logical point this seems so unlikely.

When people choose to disappear they usually aren’t thinking logically.
I wonder what the content of her email to her boss was and also what was discussed in the team call she was on. The dog could have been distracted away from her with some tasty food and she literally dropped everything and walked away up the path with no CCTV. I don’t know the area, but would it be possible for her to walk away from the fields she was at then just wander away from any road into different fields and out of the area or something like that? I would rather that to be the case because it might mean she is still alive.

@Eatentoomanyroses

I'm local too, local enough that I've thought about going to help the search as I'm only 20 minutes away but I think it will just feel like I'm being a crime tourist. The poor reporting of the facts is the reason I have followed this so closely. And by reading all the threads about this I'm not alone .

I feel terribly for the family. They put all their trust in the police and I think the police have 100% tried their best, but this is above them now. They need a fresh team in to go over it. (If that has happened already)

I don't feel like we have a right to all this information, we as the public never have the right to know more than we need to in order to help search. In this instance the responsibility lies with the mainstream media. Lazy lazy reporting that's caused so much distress.

NewBootsAndRanty · 07/02/2023 18:23

Is there ever anything you don't suspect of being down to undercover spìes and special ops @Hawkins002 ?

Sparkleshine21 · 07/02/2023 18:25

I’m local to this. I’ve been down to this group of fields and river many times on picnics with my daughter (don’t see that happening again). The fields are surrounded by rural houses, some you would need to cross the river or climb over a small fence to get to them but then it’s land after that towards preston. There are a range of directions she could have gone that don’t involve coming back out of the gate onto the main road.

KitesFlyHigh · 07/02/2023 15:52

I think if she was in the river at least an item of clothing would have been found by now.

Why? Her clothing would still be on her.

Activelyannoyed · 07/02/2023 18:26

I can’t be arsed Googling, sorry, but her boss Clarified. It was completely innocuous stuff, normal email and usual team meeting thing, and it was fine for her to be on mute and off video as it was just a briefing.

LivesinLondon2000 · 07/02/2023 18:26

@pigsinoodies
Ok - so if there aren’t strong currents, then the diving expert is justified in expecting the body to be no more than a few meters from where she would have gone in.

pigsinoodies · 07/02/2023 18:18

If it's not tidal then why would they waste time searching under Shard bridge? It would be a complete waste if time, yet they had 4 vans and a coastguard there.

madeyemoody · 07/02/2023 18:27

@Justmuddlingalong I remember that from the first days after she disappeared but I can't find a source on it, there is so much info out there now.

This is it... it doesnt' make sense. Her body would have had to have got across the weir at St Michaels to make it to the see. People have said that it's possible but I don't see how if I'm honest.

The last I read she was wearing a coat a gilet and small wellies, as youd expect in Jan, I'd say those are very heavy clothes for water and once wet extremly difficult to move in

As someone else said surely the sniffer dogs would have picked up her scent?

Mirabai · 07/02/2023 18:30

JaneJeffer · 07/02/2023 18:16

Yes @Mirabai but he just basically said they sink and that's that, which everybody knows isn't true!

He was talking about directly after she’s supposed to have fallen in. He was saying the police divers were very thorough and bodies go straight to the bottom initially near where they went in - so if she’d been in there they would have found her.

Probably a report to police about something that was then checked out.

Sparkleshine21 · 07/02/2023 18:30

Would that have happened if she went through the river? I’m not sure how sniffer dogs work! But then surely her own dog would have followed her through the river or at least tried and so been wet itself? So confusing.

madeyemoody · 07/02/2023 18:30

@TimeForMeToF1y Peter Faulding has said a fit and strong swimmer as she was should have been able to move with them on as they were light synthetic material. wool is one material that's heavy when wet.

Well it's still a river even if it's not tidal, so it still flows. And it becomes tidal below the weir - although obviously not as high tides as further towards Shard.

Identifyingasadolphin · 07/02/2023 18:32

I don’t know if this has been done already, but I would want to take the dog back to the riverside, with no people around - and just observe how the dog reacts, if it remembers anything.

I’ve spent lots of time physically in (shallower) rivers and with lots of different dogs also in rivers.
IME, if dogs didn’t willingly follow me into the water, they invariably ran repeatedly up and down the river bank, excitedly or frantically but in every case didn’t stray from the area, their eyes totally focussed on what was going on in the river.

The dog’s behaviour there I think would point to the answer.
I suppose it’s already been investigated…

I had a dog attend a crime scene I was at a few nights ago, dog came about 60 mins after the suspect ran from the scene however couldn’t pick up a scent. It’s not an exact science unfortunately.

If they have the phone and she’s in the river can’t they keep synching the Fitbit while searching the river; if the Fitbit is waterproof…
