I couldn't see another post so thought I'd create one.

There is a police press conference this afternoon. I can't see a time for this but it's sounding like a routine one.

I know that Peter Faulding is supposed to be an expert but nothing he says makes sense! Yes they might sink at first but will resurface at some point.

I hope this is the case, I hope she's walked away because she has had enough and by that I mean that she will be alive and well as opposed to being in the river.

BlueSphere · 07/02/2023 18:09

it's very odd not off

I'm guessing there's more to it all, so he has to be tight with regards to the information he provides

They sink when their lungs full with water, they resurface when they have been in the water a while and the balance of gases in a decomposing body change.

coffeesunrise · 07/02/2023 18:10

Quote from BBC/Peter: “Peter Faulding, who has led a team of underwater experts, said: "I would expect to find Nicola in the water right in front of the bench where she went down. This is so strange."

that’s the second reference to her going in, from him, isn’t it? I’m guessing they have more information than they’re saying and an idea of where she entered the water.

People drown constantly, sadly. And often take weeks to be recovered. So I have no idea what makes this case so particularly baffling for him; Unless there’s additional information. Either way, more unprofessional behaviour from him.

madeyemoody · 07/02/2023 18:11

@AmillionReasons

Treat it like a crime scene. Abducted or fall in river doesn't matter. They let every man and his dog on that bench and stretch of path. It should of been cordened off and throughly inspected. It's muddy. The dog walkers boots should have been cross referenced against foot prints of the area to eliminate who was and wasn't there.

The bank is very steep, they said before it was announced she was missing it was searched but how long was spent doing that? A few hours? She's slipped and fallen in a river there would be indications that's happened. Scent dogs arrived too late after rain and high winds. They should have been brought to the scene immediately. If they had no evidence then why only account for one possibility?

melonraspberry · 07/02/2023 18:11

Peter Faulding said ‘where she went in’ in the today programme this morning, I remember thinking it was odd. But he may have done that to align with the police as they could easily pull his access . He can be more outspoken once his work is done (or nearly done, as he clearly believes it is )

Return2thebasic · 07/02/2023 18:11

Goldpaw · 07/02/2023 18:03

It's frustrating they think she went into the river but they've no evidence.

The incorrect road names and descriptions of what she was wearing doesn't show much attention to detail, does it?

No wonder people think the police have missed things.

They said in the beginning (excuse me if I'm wrong), they don't have other evidence of foul play , so the most likely cause is falling in water!!!

TokyoSushi · 07/02/2023 18:11

Interesting, I think the opposite, the Police don't have a clue what's happened and are clutching at straws.

LadyHarmby · 07/02/2023 18:12

confounded234 · 07/02/2023 18:07

If that's the case, and it's not a crime, then why not just release that info? They have literally said they are not expecting any criminality in this case at the presser. Why hold anything back? Anything could help find her or the body?

I mean, yeah, fair question and I don’t know why. But at the end of the day, they only release info to the public when they need help from the public in the investigation. Anything else is not our business.

It seems they started searching the river on the afternoon of the day she disappeared so that seems telling that they had that theory so early on. Plus not to taping off the bench etc.

So I feel like they do have something to point to her going in the water that we don’t know about.

Return2thebasic · 07/02/2023 18:12

You need to focus resources to rule out one before you move resources to explore other possibilities. That's what they did, starting with the most possible (even though without a lot to back up either)!

madeyemoody · 07/02/2023 18:13

@Laiste she was wearing ankle wellies from next when she left home you can see them in the CCTV. She wore them in photos from December and January.

I agree the police investigation in terms of communications with the public has been abysmal, confused timings, no cctv released (they will have seen it ), wrong clothes description. It’s all very well asking for speculation to stop but if they had communicated better it wouldn’t be nearly as bad. But hopefully the police doing the actual work are doing a very thorough job and it’s just the people communicating who are messing up.

Yes, might be true. But who has any clue, please???

BlueSphere · 07/02/2023 18:14

LadyHarmby · 07/02/2023 18:06

I think the police have some information that they haven’t made public that leads to them to believe she went in the water. She said as much in the press conference and also said Peter Faulding wasn’t privy to all information either.

I think so too. Peter Faulding's comment "when Nicola went in", the police stating clearly they believe she went in and NB's sister's comment about if she needed space gives the whole situation a different spin. Th fact that it's all puzzling too. Perhaps she did just disappear but it's very very hard to believe that a doting mother would just leave her kids so from a logical point this seems so unlikely.

Yep, that’s where I am.

I’ve never seen a case with such imprecise language and confusion over names, locations, clothing etc.

It’s time for another force to come in and review the case, as per procedure.

I agree

madeyemoody · 07/02/2023 18:15

@TokyoSushi I feel the same, and they also didn't expect it to become a big national story and know they made mistakes early on by only focusing on the river

If she was on a Teams meeting then the app keeps the device "open" from logging in to the meeting until you log out. Or all versions of the software that I use do. What I found more odd was that there was a report that she was on mute and with her camera off the whole time of the meeting. Nowhere I know would allow that, and it seems rather odd that they did. You may as well not be in a meeting if you don't have any participation at all.

I have an occasional job where I do just that, there's no need for me to be in camera and no need to contribute. I'm listening to a training update. If someone desperately needs to speak they can but they rarely do

Everyone's job ia different, just because you dont do it doesn't mean it's totally normal for other people

Justmuddlingalong · 07/02/2023 18:16

Has it been confirmed that her keys were attached to the dog's harness? That was mentioned days ago and I found that really odd, but no mention of it since.

JaneJeffer · 07/02/2023 18:16

Yes @Mirabai but he just basically said they sink and that's that, which everybody knows isn't true!

LivesinLondon2000 · 07/02/2023 18:16

The reports I’ve read are so conflicting - some saying there were strong currents; others saying the water was actually very still in the location where she would presumably have fallen in.
If she did fall in, why would she sink straight to the bottom where she fell, wouldn’t strong tidal currents drag the body further along the river? And potentially out to sea pretty quickly?

They said that the National Crime Agency have reviewed it didn't they?
