I couldn't see another post so thought I'd create one.

There is a police press conference this afternoon. I can't see a time for this but it's sounding like a routine one.

There are no signs of slipping.

Her dog didn't stay with her (which is what dogs usually do)

She could have fallen in by being pushed by the dog accidentally, so there wouldn’t be any signs of slipping.

They must know she had a tennis ball to say so as not everyone takes a ball out with them.

It could be possible that she had one of those long stock ball throwers and was sat on the bench on her work call and throwing the ball from there.

When it went into the water she could have got up from her seat and bent over to retrieve it and then had a medical episode or the dog pushed her.

The dog running around in the same area would make me think that was her last place as like you say most dogs do do that.

The dog would have sniffed the phone and bench which could have easily knocked it off.

If she had a medical episode or the water was freezing and she went into shock then it would be very easy to drown and be carried off.

If she was abducted or pushed then I would have thought they would have taken her phone or thrown it in the river, especially if it was making a noise because she was on a work call.

There's no tennis ball. The family confirmed that Nicola didn't take the ball with her on walks. This was more lazy lack of attention to detail from SI Riley when offering her "explanation" as to what might have happened.

I thought Sally said they had the Fitbit? Maybe I misheard or did she say Fitbit information?

I wish people would read things properly before they comment. She was on the phone on a work call but it was muted and her camera was off her end so they wouldn't have heard anything. This point keeps being questioned over and over when it's been answered multiple times and is clearly answered in a lot of the news articles and has since the beginning.

Unless they have the fitbit, they don't have the info. It would need to be within 20 feet of a device to sync and be above water.

Yes, this is one thing that has been consistent!

There must be lots of potential for issues to occur with a dog - a dog thief trying their luck, gone wrong? Her dog getting into an argument with another dog that escalated into an attack involving her and another dog/its owner? Just speculating I know but there must be a number of possibilities. Also abduction could be a possibility. I hope they are keeping an open mind.

AmillionReasons · 07/02/2023 17:51

Did they it was usual for her to take the harness off the dog when wntwei f the field and then put it back on when leaving? That is why I don't understand the harness being off the dog throw on the ground by the river. Is the bench near the gate from the field does anyone know?

They aren't keeping an open mind. Despite literally only 2 sitings of Nicola on her walk, and apparently zero CCTV footage, they are still supremely confident she has fallen in the water with absolutely no chance of foul play

Yes, they said really early on that was usual

Sorry should have said: 🤔

@Eatentoomanyroses

The "facts" have shifted massively since the initial reports. That's why there is so much confusion. The report of the local shop owner has her find the dog and harness, tie her up and leave her because of an appointment. then contact her daughter..when she got home! Who then alerted Paul who called the police. For some BIZARRE and not explained reason she is omitted from the official time line, despite this being the first person on the "scene" who then got the ball rolling re: letting Paul know. No mention of what time this was.

The second article is the two dogs walkers who found the phone on the floor by the bench and found willow alone and untethered (again??) They apparently phoned the school and they school phoned Paul who called the police. So what is it!?! Was she tied up and got free? Who found the phone and where? Who called Paul!? The First Ladies daughter or the dog walkers who phoned the school???

Why does the official timeline go from 9:30 to 10:50 being the time Paul and police were contacted?? That's over an hour of time unexplained. The reporting has been SHOCKING and the police have caused their own confusion by contradicting their own information, not to mention continuing to get road names wrong and why didn't they release CCTV of Nicola on the day she left, why why why did her poor partner have to be the one to release it to BBC A WEEK LATER!!!!

Watch this video

Pay especially attention from 40s the diving expert says "when Nicola went in" ... slip of the tongue? Maybe they do have evidence that she went in but are puzzled why she cannot be found? Odd, odd odd!

Pleas read this, this is most weird!

I started writing the below:

I am still confused why the diving expert said

"they (the police) were here, straight here that day when Nicola went in"

That's surely an odd thing to say, shouldn't he have said

"they (the police) were here, straight here that day when Nicola went missing"

But before posting I rewatched and they have edited the video, he now can no longer be heard saying it!! when you watch it from about 30s you can spot the weird jump in the edit.

They have edited out his comment where he said
"they (the police) were here, straight here that day when Nicola went in"

VargaV · 07/02/2023 17:56

This whole thing is just terrible. I can't see any scenario where there could be a happy ending.

Her poor family. I don't think I'd even be able to speak.

madeyemoody · 07/02/2023 17:56

@confounded234 they aren't confident at all. It's all they have in the absence of any other evidence which is what's so hard to accept about this disappearance. They have absolutely nothing.

ofwarren · 07/02/2023 17:57

Peter Faulding on GB News
'Normally when a person drowns they go straight to the bottom. That's in my 20-odd years of experience dealing with drowning victims.'

Forensic expert, Peter Faulding, says it is 'impossible' that missing Nicola Bulley has been washed out to sea.

Following on from that they may know for certain she went into the river but are puzzled why she cannot be found.

AmillionReasons · 07/02/2023 17:58

I don't think they can know for certain with no evidence.

SafferUpNorth · 07/02/2023 17:59

What a frustrating press conference. It seems the investigation is no further forward - how desperately sad for the family. That Super Riley was going my head in, repeating over and over that they're "keeping an open mind" and "open to all possibilities" when in fact it's clear they've been totally fixated on one possible theory.

How can they be so sure there was no third party involvement? Why had they previously ruled it out so categorically? They have no evidence for that, they say. Nor is there any evidence she drowned accidentally. None.

The fact that they got the description of her clothing so wrong and only released CCTV shots of her from that morning DAYS later meant that vital small details might have been missed - maybe a sighting of her with someone. I mean, if the police continually repeat the river theory and keep saying no-one else is involved, the whole thing descends into groupthink. Someone might have glimpsed something fleetingly and not realise it's important.

Return2thebasic · 07/02/2023 18:00

To satisfy my own curiosity, TO THOSE WHO THINK THE POLICE AREN'T DOING ENOUGH AND HAVE BEEN INCOMPETENT, What do you suggest they should do that they haven't done? Actions wise?

If you had decided to disappear - you wouldn't take your phone with you... or a dog would you; these would make you easy to track and far more noticeable.
