Ok, still not understanding the words, but getting the general idea.

I'm all for the "yum yum in my tum tum" type hunting, but fox hunting seems bizarre.

ladywallopofcod · 16/09/2004 12:07

welll no just ones that shit on your drive and sniff your fanny

CountessDracula · 16/09/2004 12:07

Titania that's what foxes do to chickens!

I had to laugh last night as some woman was whinging on the news that a policeman had smashed her up in a cold and calculating way, he had looked her in the eye and then twatted her one - dh shouted "well NOW you know what it's like then!"

JJ is a line from the young ones, Emma Thompson in a tiara on University Challenge....

Twinkie · 16/09/2004 12:07

What scares me is that Blair is being able to push this through without it going to the proper vote!!

I hate the vermin but think that if they are not hunted they will become prevalent and then disease ridden and will end up having to be culled one wayor another or will end up with more of them in towns ripping my bloody bins to shreds and trying to break in to my rabbit hutch and kill poor bunny!!

I buy free range and organic now - I have become a waitrose obsessed shopper who actually appreciates that this organic stuff tastes nicer!!

CountessDracula · 16/09/2004 12:07

cod dogs only sniff things that they think smell of shit. So I can only assume that your fanny.....

err cod!!

foxes are endangered now though arent they? so how do they get away with killing them in the first place?

sorry my brain is catching up with my fingers

mothernature · 16/09/2004 12:08

oops sorry to you all but I'm with the hunter's, only 1 in three foxes get caught, if the farmers have to resort to shooting them more are likly to go away injured and die a long lingering, painful death. No hunting = more foxes , more foxes = less chance of free range eggs = more chance of battery and barn hens.. Lord forgive me what have I done?......

Northerner · 16/09/2004 12:09

I'm off for lunch now, will rush back to join debate.

NomDePlume · 16/09/2004 12:14

What are your opinions on this subject Uhu ? Don't think you can start such a potentially contentious thread without stating your views on the given subject.

IME, most of the hunting set are pretty average farmers (or they in my step-fathers lot) and really not 'Crispins' and 'Tristans' with double barrel names and nasal twangs !

My step father is part of the hunting lot (although his presence at hunts is very rare nowadays), I'm amazed that that my Mum went for him actually as she is vehemently anti-bloodsports, fox hunting with hounds in particular. He was present at the pro-hunting London rally in 2000 (i think it was 2000 anyway).

I'm fully aware that the fox is considered vermin in the countryside and I'm aware that numbers need to be kept down. However, hunting with hounds is really not the way to do it. Like CD says, a large number of hunts end without a kill, which kind of proves its ineffectiveness ! It really is just a jolly day out for most of the hunting set, which is sad

bundle · 16/09/2004 12:15

CD I love that episode of the Young Ones. Bambi gascoigne, vivien's head...oh those were the days.

I want to ban hunting too, except in finsbury Park if they want to chase the foxes (or crack dealers) in there, that's fine by me. in their little red jackets.

CountessDracula · 16/09/2004 12:16

So do I. I'm just pointing out that if you start banning one blood sport you have to ban them all. What about shooting?

I think they should just leave it alone.

If they banned fishing the rivers would be in ruin within a year.
