Just breaking news now, how awful, I wonder how on Earth it's happening?

OP posts:
CantankerousCamel · 15/07/2018 00:10

Thanks Helena

Maybe it’s not the same for those who live out of town but it’s bloody impossible not to be freaked out when you need an escourt to the doctors surgery and your local park has been cordoned, a Park usually filled with children and teenagers :(

yolofish · 15/07/2018 19:26

cantankerous I am nowhere near, but totally share your concern. something somewhere is not adding up, is not being explained to people - probably becuase the authorities dont know; and lets face it, junkies are easy targets - until it turns out it is nothing to do with shooting up the wrong stuff on the wrong day.... Flowers to you and everyone else locally.

LanguidLobster · 16/07/2018 05:53

@Cantankerous I really like Salisbury, I've got fond memories of concerts there and Michael Snells, this'll blow over.

I'm surprised Charlie Rowley's brother is allowed to state to the press about the perfume bottle?!

CantankerousCamel · 16/07/2018 06:46

Two of our own have been massively made out to be something they’re not (junkies) which must be so awful for Dawns family. What if I pick something up? Will I be labelled as something I’m not to the whole world so the police can cover their arses?

yolofish · 16/07/2018 07:11

sorry cantankerous that came across wrong, what I was trying to say that the media were so quick to portray Dawn and Charlie as 'just junkies' which of course they were not.

CantankerousCamel · 16/07/2018 07:27

yolo

Absolutely, I took your post as nothing but supportive, I suppose my pissed off ness about the situation has affected how I’m responding to this. Pls don’t feel you need to apologise, you’ve been lovely.

IrmaFayLear · 16/07/2018 11:09

The victims went in at least one charity shop, and it always struck me that they could have squirted something out of a perfume bottle in there (eg Poison - excuse the pun) or bought it. The poison could easily have travelled from Russia or wherever in a legitimate-looking perfume bottle.

I too find it strange that a bottle could suddenly have come to light in the flat ages after they were poisoned... unless it was inside a brand-name liquid.

CantankerousCamel · 16/07/2018 12:05

Irum

Charlie (apparently) was a skip diver so he could have found it and presented it to Dawn.

yolofish · 18/07/2018 17:45

searching the park again but not in hazmat gear.

they also said - Sky I think - that Dawn had the novichok on her face and on her hands, and the assumption was that she had sprayed herself with the 'perfume'. poor poor woman.

LanguidLobster · 18/07/2018 19:24

@yolo it's really baffling what they're up to/looking for

So police have identified suspects via CCTV and cross-checking who entered the country at the time. Not sure what this means practically,Russia deny it’s them and I’m sure wouldn’t extradite the suspects to face trial here.

PerkingFaintly · 19/07/2018 07:32

yolofish, yes, here's a reference for that.

Novichok poisoning: police 'identify' Skripal suspects – reports
www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2018/jul/19/police-identify-skripal-novichok-salisbury-poisoning-suspects

It is understood Sturgess was exposed to at least 10 times the amount of novichok the Skripals came into contact with, PA said.

Investigators are working on the theory that the substance was in a discarded perfume bottle found by the couple in a park or elsewhere in Salisbury city centre and Sturgess sprayed novichok straight on to her skin, the source said.

Police found the bottle at Rowley’s home in Amesbury.

IrmaFayLear · 19/07/2018 09:06

I thought the minute I saw them in the charity shop that they had picked it up in there. A perfume bottle is unlikely to have remained unfound in a park for months.

And in a perfume container is probably how the poison entered the country - perhaps even in a Duty Free bag. As the Novichok was present on the Skripals' door handle, could the poison (in the form of perfume) been sprayed by the daughter on her wrists and then she and then her father touched the handle?

CantankerousCamel · 19/07/2018 09:09

Then why did she get less poisoned than him? I suppose age and other health would come into it.

Still not sure it all adds up to me though,

yolofish · 19/07/2018 15:28

I thought they said Dawn had had a massive dose? maybe I'm wrong. Poor love though, having a spritz of what she thought was nice perfume and ending up like that... it does put you off ever buying anything cosmetic-y in a charity shop though.

CantankerousCamel · 19/07/2018 15:30

Not dawn, the Russian

yolofish · 19/07/2018 15:34

confused now, which Russian? Sergei or Yulia? or the Russian they say they've identified on cctv? honestly you couldnt make this stuff up

CantankerousCamel · 19/07/2018 15:37

The daughter, if it was in a perfume bottle as PP said, then sprayed on her then he just touched her, how come she got less of a dose than him? Doesn’t make sense, she’d be like Dawn

yolofish · 19/07/2018 15:44

yes I get you. either 'they' dont know or we are not being told the truth. probs a bit of both.

PerkingFaintly · 19/07/2018 15:52

My guess would be the stuff was in a perfume bottle because it would look nice and innocuous coming into the country, and then a spray bottle might be a good way to apply the novichok to the door handle. Attacker could then take bottle away from the scene and dispose of it in a skip or wherever.

That's just my speculation, of course.

I don't see how the logistics would work if the bottle was in the possession of Yulia (as a nasty "gift"). If she had the bottle, surely it would have been found in the Skripal home or in Yulia's handbag, not wherever Charlie came across it? And from the point of view of the assassin(s), giving a "perfume" to one person and hoping they spray it and then touch something and that your intended victim then touches it, seems too unreliable a method. (Assuming Sergei Skripal was the intended target – he was the former spy, of course.)

LanguidLobster · 21/07/2018 11:56

I wonder where on earth he'd go?

It must be awful coming around from such a horrific event and then having the world lens on you. I'd hide in a cave, seriously!

Having personal details splashed around like that. Awful.

HelenaDove · 24/07/2018 18:31

Charlie Rowley is being interviewed on ITV News.

HelenaDove · 24/07/2018 18:32

the bottle was unopened and unused when he found it.

SmileAndNod · 24/07/2018 22:23

Gets stranger by the day...
