Another Novichok Poisoning?

Just breaking news now, how awful, I wonder how on Earth it's happening?

Well Sanctuary Group who run John Baker House could make a donation from their millions in surplus.

CantankerousCamel · 13/07/2018 16:14

It was good, town was very busy but had a weird vibe, we went to all the local independent shops for our bits and bobs, people are super worried about another drop in footfall. It seems so utterly random now that obviously the locals are shook up, which is quite impressive because living in the shadow of Porton down (who have poisoned people in living memory) means we are fairly unshockable.

But this is a bit different, sinister and unknown. Were they targeted? Is someone trying to work out how well we can deal with this substance?

Because of Porton down our hospitals ‘code red’ is poisoning related, if those people hadn’t been in Salisbury they wouldn’t have survived. So why the second poisoning? Also two people and also in Salisbury, if ‘they’ didn’t know Salisbury was a poisoning expert facility they did after the first posioning, so why the second?

It’s freaked everyone out

GenericHamster · 13/07/2018 17:28

They've found the container in one of the victim's houses according to breaking news. Hopefully we will hear more soon and will able to feel more confident that there isn't more out there.

peridito · 13/07/2018 17:34

Thank you Hamster

From a bottle? So they didn’t inject it like we’ve locally been led to believe

Well where did it come from then? ‘A bottle’ might be a ‘postrive development’ for the UK anti-terrorism team but it’s pretty scary for us locals

CantankerousCamel · 13/07/2018 18:05

Charlie was known for skip diving. Current thought is he’s found a half empty perfume bottle and presented it to Dawn

Member · 13/07/2018 18:22

Who on earth has been saying they injected it?

The police said fairly early on that both had most traces on their hands consistent with having handled the container containing Novichock. I would imagine death would be fairly instantaneous if it was injected.

In other developments, the military have seized a Wiltshire Air Ambulance support vehicle; presumably driven by the same paramedic whose personal Audi was seized.

CantankerousCamel · 13/07/2018 18:36

We were told from the start that it was in their possession because they were smack heads and were going through bins for needles.

Mind you that might have come out of the original report that it was just an overdose and nothing dodgy was going on (despite the hazmat suits etc)

SmileAndNod · 13/07/2018 19:12

I think the police have been pretty clear this week that the agent had been handled and was not injected or airborne?
The services have been working so hard so I'm pleased that they've had a small breakthrough.

CantankerousCamel · 13/07/2018 20:26

The police have been blundering idiots locally, releasing statements then back tracking/deleting them, stating it’s ‘protocol’ to currently respond to overdoses (as we were told it was) in hazmat suites et al.

It’s been fucking horrible for us locally, people’s lives turned upside down while the media portrays our locals as junkies and drunks.

It’s NOT GOOD ENOUGH to say it’s ‘not a threat to the public because junkies’ followed by ‘oh it’s actually fuck all to do with them being junkies’ followed by ‘oh it’s a small bottle’

It makes NO SENSE. So I’m glad you’re ‘pleased’ that they’ve made headway but as a local we don’t know how the fuck to get our kids to school without fearing them picking something up randomly covered in/containing nerve agent that was apparently ‘gone’ 4 months ago.

I had to have a POLICE ESCOURT to make a doctors appointment today.

So please, shove your ‘gladness’ I want safety and answers

CantankerousCamel · 13/07/2018 20:28

‘This week’ for two days they were telling people it was a bloody junkie related issue.

SmileAndNod · 13/07/2018 21:06

I am local as well. I don't feel unsafe at all. Slightly intimidated by the media circus on the school run but not unsafe. I've also not spoken to anyone (as yet) who was fearful.

gluteustothemaximus · 13/07/2018 21:14

It would explain everything if it was a perfume bottle. Easily smuggled in on a plane.

CantankerousCamel · 13/07/2018 21:16

Yes I think it makes the most sense, especially if Charlie was a skip diver.

It would also (hopefully) mean that it is the last we will see of the bloody stuff.

I’ve not met ONE person who hasn’t been freaked out by this locally. Obviously people are freaked out, most of us knew Dawn and know Charlie if by sight only.

LanguidLobster · 14/07/2018 04:22

@Helena that's barbaric.

I read something about the Skripal daughter is planning to return to Russia now her father is getting better. It makes sense, she wouldn't have much of a life in the UK.

@Cantankerous it did make me snicker a bit yesterday reading a comment on a different site that apparently the Russians were disguising their secret agents as homeless drug addicts.

Whole thing is really confusing, hopefully there'll be some sort of resolution. Only thing we really know is that someone had possession of a chemical weapon.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 14/07/2018 16:24

stating it’s ‘protocol’ to currently respond to overdoses (as we were told it was) in hazmat suites et al.

But they do occasionally respond to overdoses/do raids in hazmat suits don’t they? Or at least they do here. They didn’t to the initial call to the house, but did to the second. Which might make sense if what they thought they were dealing with was a drug batch contaminated with fentanyl.

CantankerousCamel · 14/07/2018 18:43

Langrid I ACTUALLY read someone suggesting they were using novichok to rid Salisbury of the homeless (the first attack was close to a homeless sqaut too which has since been evicted) so they could easier sell old age flats.

I did ask the person making this argument to perhaps stop and just consider it... for a second.

CantankerousCamel · 14/07/2018 18:44

I have been involved with homelessness, probation and drug related issues within salisbury for many years and have never heard of anyone OD’ing and getting tended to by hazmat wearing paramedics. They knew what it was from the off and lied to the locals, again.

It might not have happened in Salisbury before, but if the police suspected that the drugs that had been taken in that property were contaminated with fentanyl, or there was fentanyl in that house when they received the 2nd call to the property then it’s entirely plausible that the hazmat suits could have been to do with that.

I would highly recommend an ad blocker before looking at any of those links, though.

CantankerousCamel · 14/07/2018 23:01

Thanks for the telegraph link. Bloody marvellous, the police have blocked off one of the main routes into the city on foot, blocking off a centuries old family run pub and one of the cities main parks and leisure areas at the same time

I know they need to be cautious but this is a really shit time to lose those facilities and, more than anything will serve as a constant reminder to the people of Salisbury that we aren’t safe

HelenaDove · 14/07/2018 23:58

Camel Thanks i know this is causing massive anxiety for you and others in that area.
