Just breaking news now, how awful, I wonder how on Earth it's happening?

I wonder if it was a back-up/alternate plan, to be sent to Yulia as a 'gift' if the first attempt didn't work. And then just discarded when not required.

Wonder if there are any other discarded back-up plans, e.g poisoned bottle of wine, box of chocolates. Wouldn't surprise me if that is what all the continued searching is about.

Have been reading these threads and now delurking.

Curiouser and curiouser.

It could be that he shouldn't be speaking to ITV re the incident, but I would have thought that he would be brought to a house by courtesy of the government to help with his recovery after his release from hospital. Also his memory of the day might well not be accurate. Plus there could be a lot of guilt involved and anger.

Where ITV right to interview him? He is clearly now identifiable.

It's being reported that the perfume was in an sealed box. What does that mean? A box to me is a structure that is wooden. If it was reported that the perfume was in sealed packaging, as in a perfume you would buy in the shops or the airport, then that would be explanatory, but an unsealed box?

Following on from Bore's comment, a variation would be for Yulia to already have been in possession of the ‘gift’ and have had it in her bag. The box could then have been removed opportunistically after the Skripals fell ill. The bag was, according to some early reports which may or may not be accurate, left unattended by the bench for a while after the Skripals were taken to hospital and before the seriousness of the event was recognised.

This would mean that Yulia was targeted though, which seems odd.
And Yulia herself would be aware of a missing perfume bottle presumably ...

placemats I was reading a Guardian article that said it was a sealed box in a cellophane wrapper.

Who get's a box of perfume for their birthday or Christmas? It's a strange turn of phrase.

If someone said to me I got a box of perfume as a present I would automatically assume it was in a presentation box that was wooden, or just a presentation box that had other things such as shower creme or lotion.

But that wasn't what was said. It all seems a bit slack in both reporting and policing.

There are box presentations such as this:

Not that the above is implicated but it was the first thing that came up when I search engine perfume in a box.

Loads of perfume comes in a box Confused

I don't think it's that strange at all. A cardboard presentation box with a glass bottle inside!

This is a whole new level of implausible deniability. There’s not even an attempt at a story that might be believable.

I am incredulous that the Russians are trying to tell us that it was too slushy to do tourist things. Russians!! They wade through meters of the stuff every winter but British slush is clearly far too dangerous. Not even an stamps at plausibility!!

Thankfully all the muddy slush had cleared up overnight so it was fine to go back and sightsee the next day.

PMSL that these guys, by some incredible coincidence, decided to come to the UK and visit Salsibury cathedral just at the same time as the incident happened.

Crazy ridiculous story, with a huge element of 'you're never going to get us, we couldn't care less what you think!'

I remember that day very well as I was in town. I remember being so happy that the heavy snow had practically disappeared in the lovely sunshine. I was dreading the snow hanging around, but it didn’t.

It’s all bollucks.

BBC has another incident ongoing in Salisbury this evening. Sad

Sorry, realised that sounded quite scaremongery. They're being careful to say all action precautionary at this stage.

This is insane. The incident happened before 6pm, but no confirmation on what's happened?

Just came on to see if there was a thread about this evening but can't see a current one... Off to see if there's anything helpful on twitter.

I see they've identified one of the suspects and he's a colonel in the Russian intelligence service, now there's a surprise!
