Please sign this petition to try and prevent the defunding of women’s refuges

Earlier today it was revealed that, during 2016, 78 women women were murdered in the UK by their current or ex-partner. SEVENTY EIGHT

39 of those women had children under the age of 18.
3 of them were pregnant.

This week the Government will be voting on legislation that will impact massively on the funding of women’s refuges. If the changes go ahead many refuges will be forced to close due to lack of funds.

It’s heartening to listen to the number of MPs (across all parties it must be said) who are speaking out on behalf of the refuges.

Possibly seen as vested interests because this is my job but in reality I wish I was made redundant due to not being needed, I'd love to have no job due to no domestic violence - instead refuges are full, we are working above and beyond to keep women and children safe on less and less money (my organisation announced another "restructuring" last week) and come these government cuts, we are likely to not run at all.
1 in 4 women experience domestic violence, that's 25% of women (and the children they have) we are going to be letting down and not keeping safe anymore

The debate has taken place but nothing has been set as far as the policy goes yet. The government have said “nothing is off the table” so hopefully we can still get it amended.
