Please sign this petition to try and prevent the defunding of women’s refuges

Earlier today it was revealed that, during 2016, 78 women women were murdered in the UK by their current or ex-partner. SEVENTY EIGHT

39 of those women had children under the age of 18.
3 of them were pregnant.

This week the Government will be voting on legislation that will impact massively on the funding of women’s refuges. If the changes go ahead many refuges will be forced to close due to lack of funds.

Please take a minute to read and sign this petition and share it with your friends and family via social media.

I have signed and shared. Hope mumsnet hq focuses on this.

Failing to oppose these cuts will cause women's deaths.

If you want to help further you could:

1.Set up a donation with a women’s refuge charity like this: www.refuge.org.uk/donate/

  1. Or while you are doing your shopping online, go to Amazon’s “Find a Wish List” Page - www.amazon.co.uk/gp/registry/search.html/ref=nav_wishlist_gno_listpop_find?tag=mumsnetforum-21&ie=UTF8&type=wishlist

-Type “women’s aid” into the search box - a list of all the registered refuges will appear.

-Select one, perhaps your local one or close to somewhere you have a connection.

-Pick something from their Wish List and gift it to them.

-The items on their Wish Lists are never “sexy”, things like duvet covers, kitchen utensils, etc, but they are essentials that women with nothing need.

  1. When you are sorting out your children’s old clothes, instead of putting them in a charity doorstep bag, why not phone your local women’s refuge and ask if they need any donations. I did this with the baby clothes DS had outgrown earlier this year.

Do make sure you phone first to check what they need as they often don’t have space to store unneeded items.

Signed and shared. Fuckers. The thought of all those motherless children of the murder victims makes me want to cry. When scores of people are killed in terrorist attacks the media is all over it, parliament is up in arms, money is thrown at prevention and trying to figure out how to stop the violence (quite rightly).
78 women at the hands of men they knew...LESS funding for prevention???

The debate should be underway but sadly BBC Parliament is broadcasting the Select Committees this morning.
