Please sign this petition to try and prevent the defunding of women’s refuges

Earlier today it was revealed that, during 2016, 78 women women were murdered in the UK by their current or ex-partner. SEVENTY EIGHT

39 of those women had children under the age of 18.
3 of them were pregnant.

This week the Government will be voting on legislation that will impact massively on the funding of women’s refuges. If the changes go ahead many refuges will be forced to close due to lack of funds.

Please take a minute to read and sign this petition and share it with your friends and family via social media.

Signed. Refuges are so important.

Greebz · 10/12/2017 15:09

Done and now also bumping. I wish this issue was getting more coverage. It's a disgrace how this government treats vulnerable women.

isitmee · 10/12/2017 15:30

Signed!! I would be lost without WA right now

Zhx3 · 10/12/2017 15:35

I have signed and will share.

Is it 78 or 113 women? I'm not sure?

Zhx3 · 10/12/2017 15:35

Got it from the report - thanks for sharing.

Excellent article on BBC news website today quoting the brothers of the dad who killed his wife and daughter outside a swimming pool in Lincolnshire before killing himself. Four days earlier, the brothers had helped their mum and sister move out of the home. They say the controlling father was not going stop until she was dead. Chilling, harrowing stuff. The article references the need for refuges too.

AwkwardSquad · 10/12/2017 15:40

Also already signed the petition, but here’s a thread bump.

Refuges should not be needed, but sadly they very much are.

Signed. That's this awful government (who keeps getting voted in for you, though.) If they stay ss come and sweep their children away for bringing them up in a hostile environment.
Lots of women and children are getting turned away. Not everyone has a mother and father who live in the next street.
who they can go and stay with. So smart arse ss and you Tory twits. What do they do.
There will many many who have stayed at home to raise their babies, with no savings
And no way out. I might be flamed for this but I still have no problems with saying it regardless. Perhaps if we didn't give 13 billion per year to Foreign Aid. We'd have the money and support for these families.
I'm not saying don't give anything, but come on 13billion when we have people on our own door step struggling and desperation.
The problem is though. This government is lead by a bunch of pampered and pondered to cunts born with diamonte spoons in their mouths who have never had to live in the real world. Unless we have people in who have faced advarsity and hardship.
Nothing will change, because sadly I'm alright Jacks don't give a flYing fUck about the suffering of others.

As well as posting this. I'll give this thread a few deserving bumps

Done. I've seen on other threads that WA budgets have already been slashed, affecting services. Further cuts would be catastrophic.

peppykoala · 10/12/2017 16:12

Signed & bumping.
