I think anyone who voted Labour in the last election is complicit in murder

Because you knew Tony Blair lied and lied and lied to get us into that war, and now children are being killed every day, and bodies are piling up in the streets. I think he is the most vile, wicked and contemptible man in Britain. How can he sleep at night? I feel so ashamed he is our prime minister.

Is Libdem the same? Really?

Anti student loans

Anti war

Not sure about that comment

have found the Tories quite bizarre lately, I have in my head that theya re performng a stitch up of immense magnitude where everyone thinks oh they're not so bad now- then Cameron whips off his mask and displays his true etonian Thatcheresque Tory form.

Agree with you Peachy about an imminent tory stitch-up - it does worry me how many people almost seem to be falling for Cameron

PeachyChocolateEClair · 15/04/2007 19:33

I know Squeaky, I really do. I wouldnt agree with the Politicians- as Is aid earlier Dh was raised in paddy Ashdowns constituency and can't rave enough about it, and my AM (a Lib Dem) is giving us great help with DS3's SN (ie backing us with the LEA).

I agree about Charlie Kennedy. My mate was one of his Constituents, and she thought he was good too. Rather like Lembuiit, but he did amke a fool of himself didn't he? Sadly.

Mind you we get the Politicians we deserve to an extent. What I mean is, I really used to fancy politics- I have a natural inclination, most poeple who know me (I think) know I'm straigh and honest, and give my best to help- I just can't fancy all the shite that goes with it, the ex who would saya nything for a tenner (more like 10p...) etc etc etc. The media attention / attitudes towards politics etc has created an environment where only self obsessed megalomaniacs love themselves (as opposed to people) enough to put themselves forwards.

IMO.

thanks for that about the Shi'ites peachy. The schism has a long history but yes it was also triggered by the assasination of Ali. But Saddam was a Sunni and the Sunnis held power for a very long time so i guess it has something to do with that too.

PeachyChocolateEClair · 15/04/2007 20:42

Oh yeah I agree thats relevant

I was just arguing it goes a lot further, too.

yellowrose · 16/04/2007 10:23

the shia/sunni divide did not occur at the time of the assassination of Ali, it came several centuries later. there was a dispute over leadership after the death of Muhammed, but the shia/sunni divide did not exist for many centuries later.

yellowrose · 16/04/2007 10:25

i doubt the jewish virtual library gives the most accurate history of the shia/sunni divide

PeachyChocolateEClair · 16/04/2007 11:20

nah but I bet my Professor of Islam did, although I admit to being lazy in finding links LOL!

yellowrose · 16/04/2007 11:24

lol - peachy - your prof. of islam knows more than i do about islam, but just thought a jewish source may be a tad biased, but i could be wrong

Sightly more acceptable quote (Norcliffe, 1997), who I am proud to have aas both professor and neighbour. It shows the split as having roots within the assasination (although yes there are other differences- I was just searching for the earliest date of the split, trying to show it as a far from modern occurence).

'Shi'a Islam has a different emphasis on these points: the Qur'an and the sunnah have the same role and function as withion Sunni Islam, but the Shi'Ites give far more weight to the role of the religious leaders. The Imams are the leaders and teachers withing the Muslim communities and, within Shi'ite Islam, are seen as the heirs to Ali, and the true authority on any point of debate'

hopefully my point is a bit clearer - sorry if I did nto make it well.

yellowrose · 16/04/2007 11:35

yes, peachy that is pretty accurate from what i have read

PeachyChocolateEClair · 16/04/2007 11:36

LOl yelowrose- I did a huge presentation last term on the sahred history between the 'peoples of the book'- although the path was clear, the conculsion had tos tate that historical links not withstanding, it was all irrlevant if the people from each religion just chose to focus on their differences.

valid post squeakybub, though I do think there are differences under Tory and Labour policy. the NHS today might be struggling fro example, but it is no longer the place where people die waiting for cancer treatment, or are sent home to die because the system does not allow the alzheimers service and cancer service to interact 9the assumption being that alzheimers patients are not a priority for treatment- this happened to a frinds mum, who died at age 39 in the very ealrly stagefs of early onset Alz).

I loathe TB, I am not so anti GB but I would rather have them over the tory party of my youth any day. I'm neither a Sun or Dm reader 9though my aprents read The Sun), but i come from the bcakground where under the tory Government jobs weren't secure, where 10,000 people chased one admin job- feels me with terror that mychildren amy grow up in that, especiallya s two will be needing some level (albeit with ds1 quite minimal) of care / support as adults, and as such I would like a NHS to exist! Its all very well people yelling privatisation is the way forwards in a new right tone, but no-one on this planet is going to insure 2 austistic kids.

yellowrose · 16/04/2007 11:39

very true, quite amazing how much shared history and values the 3 main religions have, but politics always gets in the way

ruty · 16/04/2007 11:44

thanks for the clarification you two.

PeachyChocolateEClair · 16/04/2007 11:48

Yeah

coz you didn't know that Ruty???

LOL

ruty · 16/04/2007 11:56

Pehaps it depends on perspective? I worked as a student nurse within the NHS,under the Tories, and it was a nigtmare. FWIW I think the management systems are now the ones buggering it- the finances are there but they are being completely misappropriated. That needas action ASAP imo. Also the services I have most iteraction with are probably not those others do, I would guess.
