So there are loads of rational and well thought out arguments on this thread. Yet Claig is stubbornly fighting his corner with repeated: I've said it was a silly thing to say! Other people support him too! Well, we shall just send Trump to the naughty corner shall we? Naughty Donald! Go and sit over there and think about what an utter dickshit you are you've said.

frogmore · 10/08/2016 15:39

Donald Trump does not complete his thoughts- make what you like of that Grin

JudyCoolibar · 10/08/2016 15:54

Is Trump a racist?

JudyCoolibar · 10/08/2016 15:57

Because he has employed the formidable Katrina Pierson, who is black, as his national spokesperson and because many prominent black Republicans support him. As do the legendary Stump for Trump sisters. I figure they all know more about it than I do.

His support amongst ethnic minorities is at an astonishing figure of under 1%. I suspect that millions of black Americans know more about it than you do, claig, and they certainly know a hell of a lot more than the likes of Katrina Pierson.

JudyCoolibar · 10/08/2016 16:04

I have said it was wrong and irresponsible to say it, but I still support him for President because they are different things, just like millions of others do too.

How is what he says conceivably a different thing from the issue of his capacity to be president? He is out there every day saying these things to try to drum up support and votes. If he becomes president he is going to have to operate through the medium of communication. You simply cannot rationally say they are different things. How can you possibly state that the fact that Trump keeps saying stupid, irresponsible and bigoted things should be ignored by voters?

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 10/08/2016 16:05

Einstein: Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.

For Claig we can change it to: Insanity is saying the same thing over and over and expecting different replies.

Roussette · 10/08/2016 16:11

And it's us too for saying what we do and expecting Claig to even give an inch. Nope, she won't, her belief in Trump is complete. It's very sad because if it was a reasoned discussion, Claig would point out his good qualities. His plans for the future of the US but there is nothing to quote that is reasonable.

Just watched that youtube clip. My god how scary. He actually says in an interview he won't take "nuking Europe" off the table.

'How can you possibly state that the fact that Trump keeps saying stupid, irresponsible and bigoted things should be ignored by voters?'

They are ignored in the main by his Republican supporters. What we think here is irrelevant as all that counts is the American voters. Yet another argument about whether Trump is racist or not is pointless when this thread is about what Trump said about the Second Amendment, which is stupid since Hillary hasn't even said she will remove it.

Trump has probably said it to get the 90 million gun owners on his side if they believe that Hillary will remove their rights.

claig · 10/08/2016 16:17

'Claig would point out his good qualities. His plans for the future of the US but there is nothing to quote that is reasonable.'

I have done that on other threads in detail. I can't repeat it all again and this thread is not about that. Millions of people wouldn't be voting for him and backing him if they didn't think he had any good points.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 10/08/2016 16:25

I can't even begin to describe how worrying I find your views, Claig.

NotYoda · 10/08/2016 16:26

gone

I don't know. I want to say well "they're just stupid", which clearly, some of them are, and misogynists, and racists, and middle aged men with big insecurities.

But there's something about the fact that Trump=powerful/successful that they like. He bolds everything down to simple black and white (sometimes literally) statements that make people feel good.

Hitler did that

claig · 10/08/2016 16:27

'I can't even begin to describe how worrying I find your views, Claig.'

Then you need to get out more because millions of people support Trump and he has a good chance of being the President. This infantile treatment of politics as if Trump is a monster is pathetic when millions support him, including African-Americans and Latinos and Muslim Americans.

TwoLeftSocks · 10/08/2016 16:30

Fucking hell, I hasn't heard of his conversations round nukes before. Was already to post that if he gets in I'm ready to start work on a bunker but stopped to read that. Absolute reckless liability.

NotYoda · 10/08/2016 16:32

What I cannot fathom is his appeal to working class people. Do they think for one moment his life trajectory bears any relation to theirs?

He was born with a silver spoon in his mouth, and like lots of people of that ilk, they simply have no idea what real struggle or sacrifice entails. They don't know what it's like to nit be privileged and if they do have some inkling, their cognitive dissonance will mean they wrongly attribute their success to themselves and their effort.

NotYoda · 10/08/2016 16:33

.. to not be privileged

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 10/08/2016 16:33

Millions of people supported Hitler but that doesn't make him anything other than a maniac and a murderer. Just because millions of people support Trump will not change my opinions of him.

claig · 10/08/2016 16:36

'Just because millions of people support Trump will not change my opinions of him.'

Why don't you try and understand what the differences are between Trump's policies and Hillary's or even Trump's policies and Jeb Bush's and you will understand why Trump beat Jeb Bush and why he is in with a chance of beating Hillary.

It is about politics and policies, not simplistic stuff about monsters.

Some people are stupid, but not millions and millions of them.

NotYoda · 10/08/2016 16:37

sorry, forgot to add

So I think maybe people think:

He's successful, he'll make me successful

Whilst not understanding that he couldn't give a tiny rats arse about anyone apart from himself

elgol · 10/08/2016 16:49

Ah, there we go.

What worries me most about Trump is the sheer number of people who think so differently to me. Whose values are polar opposites. I thought I was pretty main stream in my politics.

Either that or the sheer number of people who are either deluded or think shaking things up by electing Trump would be a good thing.

Am also quite shocked the only thing that could turn Claig from supporting Trump would be if he held his hands up and said 'you know what, those countless scientists that say human activity is affecting our climate, maybe they have something'.

Seriously. That is the worst he could say? None of the hate, the bile, the utter selfishness?

JudyCoolibar · 10/08/2016 16:52

How can you possibly state that the fact that Trump keeps saying stupid, irresponsible and bigoted things should be ignored by voters?'

They are ignored in the main by his Republican supporters. What we think here is irrelevant as all that counts is the American voters.

But you keep telling us that he should become President. That necessarily entails people voting for him, which in turn must mean that they are either ignoring his stupidity, irresponsibility and bigotry, or that they are fine with it. Do you think either alternative is desirable?

Roussette · 10/08/2016 16:54

Yes, they look up to him, like people looked up to Hitler. They believe his rhetoric and if he should get in (god help us) that bubble will burst very quickly. He is self serving.

As for this Claig
Trump has probably said it to get the 90 million gun owners on his side if they believe that Hillary will remove their rights
He left what he said open to interpretation. It only needs one gun toting redneck to decide to make a name for himself. As it is, they shout and scream "lock her up" about HillaryC, DT whips them up into a frenzy, he is irresponsible and that's putting it mildly.

claig · 10/08/2016 16:54

elgol, I don't think Trump has got hate and bile, and selfishness I am not too bothered by.

The African-American Stump for Trump Sisters also don't think that Trump is a hater.

People have different opinions. For me, if Trump said that there is something to manmade climate change, then he would have sold out and lied, and I like Trump because he is prepared to tell the truth about the Bushes and Clintons.

Lweji · 10/08/2016 16:55

Why don't you try and understand what the differences are between Trump's policies

Well, I think most people on this thread understand his proposed policies, as far as he has any consistent ones, and the fact is that most people don't like them.

claig · 10/08/2016 16:55

'must mean that they are either ignoring his stupidity, irresponsibility and bigotry, or that they are fine with it.'

They ignore it because they don't take it seriously, they know that Trump says anything and doesn't mean much of it.
