Their brand of socialism was very different to the British version.

That's understatement of the year.

National socialism has nothing to do with socialism.

Lweji · 10/08/2016 23:23

This thread is entering a type of parallel universe worse than the "And he didn't understand why we all laughed" thread.

GiddyOnZackHunt · 10/08/2016 23:29

Edith yes I think it is and countless patriotic US citizens must have had relatives in living memory who spoke something other than English at home. Not to mention all those pesky First Nationers...

JudyCoolibar · 10/08/2016 23:55

(1) I can't tell people how to think, they have to make up their own minds about what Trump means and doesn't.

(2) 'How do you know?'

Because that is what he is running on

Can you really not see the disconnect between these two statements of yours, claig? On your own admission no-one has any idea which, if any, bit of what Trump is running on he actually means.

SalemsLott · 11/08/2016 00:12

The thing is, don't enter into discussions with Claig.
We must discuss without their input.

Just5minswithDacre · 11/08/2016 01:01

Ignore claig!?

Why?

I rarely agree with her but she plays a straight bat.

7Days · 11/08/2016 01:04

He may be more Machievellian than we think. Slyer than Boris.
Hehas suggested the elections will be rigged
So now -
He can legitimately lose
Claim corruption
Raise social unrest having dog whistled to the gun nut crew
And skip off not having wanted the job anyway but leaving a stink behind him.

He is some operator, by accident or design, I don't know. I don't think he will be president, now. It's good news that he won't be near the big red button, but the mess he leaves internally in the US willtake a long time to mop up.

Roussette · 11/08/2016 07:30

Oh yes, DT is already bleating about rigged elections. Funny that. And the press have rigged everything. He senses his falling support. Won't it be good when he loses. To a woman. His worst nightmare. But I agree 7days he's going to leave behind an unholy mess and a lot of work to be done.

Today he has moved further with his rhetoric. He says Obama is the "Founder of Isis". Except he calls him Barack Hussein Obama. Let's question Obama's roots again then.

I think we just has to leave him to it - DT is losing this all on his own.

This is an interesting article. (maybe a pp was right and DT is losing interest in all of this.) This article sets out all the options open to the republican party as DT freefalls. I bet those on the sidelines are scratching their heads as to what to do as 'gaffe' is piled upon 'gaffe'.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 11/08/2016 08:11

Couldn't believe it when I read this mornings headlines. Either he has really entirely lost the plot now, or he is trying to get himself arrested. I'm not sure which! The worrying thing is, some will believe him.

As for Claig, while people may not agree with her, I'd hope that people here are the sort who can tolerate opposing view points even if they don't make sense to us as long as they don't cross over into hate speech.

StealthPolarBear · 11/08/2016 08:22

Kitten has something else happened today?
And I'm also a but uncomfortable with how this had turned into a thread arguing with claig (though I understand how it happens when there is one person with a majorly opposing view).

JudyCoolibar · 11/08/2016 08:45

It's inevitable if someone comes onto a thread arguing against everyone else that, if they continue doing so, they will draw a lot of the thread's focus. And I'm not sure to what extent you can say it's "playing a straight bat" to support a racist, sexist bigot and use the tactic of dismissing every awful thing he says with "Oh, he doesn't mean it" or "But he's joking, he's such a funny man".

OhYouBadBadKitten · 11/08/2016 08:46

stealth, just Trump asserting 3 times that Obama is the founder of ISIS. No doubt he will say he meant it figuratively, but he said it in the same way an old fashioned tent preacher would declare something to be the devil.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 11/08/2016 08:51

There are different ways of dealing with someone with repeated opposing views: to keep arguing with them using facts and logic (which means a thread can get dominated and takes far more time and patience than many of us may have) to politely ignore them when it gets too much or to be rude and personally insulting (against mn guidelines and well, not very nice)

StealthPolarBear · 11/08/2016 08:53

What????? Can't see that on the bbc
he actually does sound delusional

Roussette · 11/08/2016 08:53

Or "he only means half of what he says". (which half is the truthful bit?!) Or "he's not a typical politician". (you're right there) Or "yes he says stupid and irresponsible things but it doesn't have an effect on the public". (how do you know that?). Or "I support him but not his gaffes" (the man IS his gaffes, listen to him and what he says).

It's hard not to challenge when reading such bollocks.

claig · 11/08/2016 08:54

'Trump asserting 3 times that Obama is the founder of ISIS'

Trump already said that Hillary was the founder of Isis, now he calls her the co-founder. I think this is part of his strategy.

originalmavis · 11/08/2016 08:54

Maybe he is a robot and his wires are fusing? That would explain a lot.

LineyReborn · 11/08/2016 08:58

“Isis is honoring President Obama,” Trump said of Islamic State. “He is the founder of Isis. He founded Isis. And, I would say the co-founder would be crooked Hillary Clinton.”

^^ From the Guardian website.

Lweji · 11/08/2016 09:04

I think this is part of his strategy.

A raving mad dog strategy?
Sundance and Cassidy coming out shooting in all directions strategy?
It's not even something that Obama or Clinton can or should address. It only makes Trump look bad. Except for the minority that would vote for him even if he said to put Muslims in concentration camps.

Roussette · 11/08/2016 09:05

Maybe he is a robot and his wires are fusing? Grin
Let's hope. He's digging his own hole yes.

Very interested in "his strategy" Claig. Does anyone know what it is?! (apart from self implosion)

OhYouBadBadKitten · 11/08/2016 09:05

nytimes complete with video

DontBuyANewMumCashmere · 11/08/2016 09:07

Has he been hired by the Democrats to throw it? I just can't believe all the shit he spouts, he doesn't accept it will harm his chances. He must be mad.

claig · 11/08/2016 09:09

Trump's strategy will be to reveal what has really been going on in Syria etc. There are unlikely to be any holds barred because Trump is not a "career politician".

Remember Assange from just a few days ago. Assange says he has many more leaks to come.

"Julian Assange Says He Has ‘Proof’ Hillary Clinton Had a Hand in Arming ISIS"

Wikileaks founder Julian Assange is again giving interviews, claiming that he’s about to release emails that show Hillary Clinton accidentally armed ISIS attackers in Syria.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 11/08/2016 09:09

it would be interesting to do an analysis of his tweets, to see how many supporters are still defending him. It would be a gargantuan task though!
