January - nice reply from the Home Office! Smile

Just picked this out from your home office response January

Rape and sexual violence are devastating crimes and the Government is committed to ensuring that every victim has access to the specialist support they need. We expect every incident of sexual violence and rape to be treated seriously, every victim to be treated with dignity and every investigation and every prosecution to be conducted thoroughly and professionally.

That is really laughable, there was a report in the Scottish tabloids today stating that rape victims in scotland are being examined by male doctors (no choice in that) in shabby rooms within police stations untouched for 20 years and unfit for medical examinations. Treated with dignity? I beg to differ.
As they say 'they can talk the talk' but it means nothing.

clam · 27/01/2016 17:17

And actually, isn't that rather shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted? I'd really prefer them not to have to treat victims with dignity etc... How about they "commit to" preventing the crime happening in the first place?

ItsJust - is the Scottish police force devolved? Sounds like one for the SNP to sort out if they are.

GraceKellysLeftArm · 27/01/2016 17:32

I'm with clam. I don't want the police and medics to be specially trained. I don't want new rape centres. I don't want sympathetic counselling.

I don't want to be fucking raped in the first place!

Moreshabbythanchic · 27/01/2016 17:35

Sounds to me they are preparing for the inevitable.

Yes they are dog, the police in Scotland are accountable to the governing body known as 'the Scottish Police Authority'. In recent years the Scottish government dissolved all the separate police forces and we now have one single police force. From what I've heard it's a bit of shambles.

Grace hear hear!

I will say similar when I reply. Thank you!

Still, at least they bothered to respond. I thing TM is an early day signatory on the Cologne motion?

I think we need to be emailing Louise Casey - she looks like a tenacious lady judging by her history

January at least Home Office admits: "The events reported in Cologne and elsewhere in Germany were shocking and completely unacceptable."

Report
Inkanta · 27/01/2016 17:54

Yes I see what you all mean - the Home Office letter is very much talking about support AFTER the sexual violence and rape. That's no good

No I'm not convinced the government and police understand too well this new phenomenon of gang sexual violence (that we are talking about) that happened in Cologne, or how to prevent it if it were to happen over here.

Still, yes good to get a response from the Home Office ...it's a step forward.

GraceKellysLeftArm · 27/01/2016 18:09

January - at first glance of the letter I was very impressed with what was apparently a robust and fast response. But it didn't sit right with me for some reason until it was articulated here and I rather fear that moreshabby wins today's prize. :(

But all the same, three cheers to them for knowing EXACTLY what you were referring to and not coming back with some drippy non-committal reply and calling you xenophobic!

They're heading in the right direction.

No they didn't do that! That's a blessing at least Smile

I mentioned his in work today and was pleased by the response. Most people hadn't heard very much, as you would expect, but everybody was supportive of it and I will circulate the email to all my colleagues tomorrow for them to sign the petition and pass it on

hedgehog Thank you for your posts, it is good to hear interesting views from people in different places and very heartening to hear that you do not think things are as bad as they are painted and that maybe people (like your commun) are finding ways to work together

Rape and sexual violence are devastating crimes and the Government is committed to ensuring that every victim has access to the specialist support they need

well the first thing I thought of was todays news where by its said too many victims of abuse are waiting too long to get the support and therapy and other help they need.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-35413456

children having to wait more than 5 months to get support.

Confused

Report
AMouseLivedinaWindMill · 27/01/2016 18:52

A senior clinician, responsible for the care of thousands of children, told the BBC that staff felt "desperate" about the lack of help available

I think its pretty safe to say should the worse happen here....there is no bloody support. and it cant be magicked out of thin air.

Oh here we go. A minimum of three FB friends have called DC a "cunt" within the last 40 minutes because he used the phrase "bunch of migrants" when referring to Calais.

Not one of them has had anything to say about Cologne, Berlin, Freiburg, Malmo, etc., etc. :(

Report
clam · 27/01/2016 19:22

Having watched that video of the storming of the ferry in Calais, I'd say "bunch of migrants" was pretty restrained.

Report
Moreshabbythanchic · 27/01/2016 19:27

I'm not a fan of DC and his choice of words were a bit Shock but I hope he sticks to his guns about only taking in families from camps. JC could actually be doing the tories a favour with his eagerness to take in all from France, fingers crossed.

clam

there was article in the Times today I quoted it on this thread, its the far left driving them too it.
They provide chain saws, walkie talkies and goodness knows what else, they are countries without borders philosophy and they encourage vulnerable men to riot and cause disruption.

They pose as aid workers and volunteers, building shelters, giving food, and the police cant tell them from the genuine helpers. They are using this subterfuge to further their political agenda.

GhostofFrankGrimes And I'd say there's no excuse for that sort of behaviour, and I acknowledge MouseinWindmill's point - did read it earlier.

Report
GhostofFrankGrimes · 27/01/2016 19:38

No, but it can be used to distort and distract from a much wider, more serious issue; that of the plight of displaced and marginalised people.
