This is an example of the British press giving out misleading information and creating a false impression.
This is why it pays to investigate a story via several sources. And it does cut both ways...

Grace--sorry, I don't get the offshoring reference? (confused)

I've received the following reply from my MP when I emailed with concerns over the NYE incidents and others and what could be done to ensure women's rights and safety.

His reply:

"In order to ensure Ministers are aware of your concerns, and to provide you with an official and fully-informed response, further to your correspondence, I have today written to the Rt. Hon Theresa May MP, the Home Secretary, asking her to review your concerns and to let me have her findings at the earliest opportunity. I will of course forward to you a copy of any response that I receive."

Don't be obtuse.

grimble that's great!

Far more proactive than so many other MPs and MEPs are proving to be.

The petition is coming along slowly, anyone sent it to Allison Pearson yet? She offered to promote it. I don't have Twitter but happy to email anyone.

New statesman - it's when big business "cut costs" by sending work overseas and in the process being the staff to eu offices for training.

Fantastic Grimble, very encouraging to see a MP taking us seriously.

I thought muslim prayers had to be held at specific times of day?

My (mainly muslim) employees used to say that, while joint prayers at a mosque are obviously pre-arranged, those praying elsewhere had a bit more flexibility around required times ... more here: islam.about.com/cs/prayer/a/prayer_times.htm

It follows that anywhere with numerous muslim staff may see quite a "spread" of occupation of a prayer/quiet room, which is why I'm surprised the place mentioned didn't make separate provision. IME Veronica is right that employers may have been on dubious legal ground by effectively banning other groups from using a shared facility; maybe in pandering to the group which shouted loudest they simply hoped the rest wouldn't create an equal fuss and expose themselves to the usual accusations of racism, hate speech and all the rest?

Oh, and to answer a PPs question - Angela Merkel is apparently childless

I have followed up my first email to my MP with a request regarding the Early Day Motion. I have been waiting over 2 weeks for a response from my MP in any respect. Very disappointing.

Not really the ideal solution for integration, but equally you can't have gangs of men surrounding women in a dark bar. How utterly tragic that a few can't control themselves and cause such issues for everyone else.

KLAXON

Short but highly illuminating Wink article in the Times today:

Far left is exploiting migrants

"the activists try to curry favour by putting up shelters and trying to distribute food, buts its done to they can manipulate the migrants" Police say its impossible to distinguish them from bona fida volunteers. Far left activities from the UK and elsewhere have about 300 migrants under their control, 4,000 however are not interested and want nothing to do with them.
They have gained influence over mainly 17 - 25 year olds and mostly with nervous character. They are promoting the philosophy of "countries without borders". They provide these migrants with walkie talkies and chain saws and encourage riots against the police.

Grace, I have encountered a similar type of thing at my work. I worked at a Uni with a supposed 'Interfaith Centre' but on taking a wrong turning I ended up in said centre and was very quickly and menacingly informed that in fact it was a centre exclusively for one faith and one sex of which I was neither and told to leave. They knew I was staff, I had my lanyard on. But they were so confident they were untouchable they didn't care.

GraceKellysLeftArm · 27/01/2016 15:36

I really don't get it - it didn't used to be like this - or was I blind? I used to live in Istanbul and I'd happily potter around the blue mosque and its environs (not Fatih area) and was only approached once by one young man who left me alone when I spoke French to him rather than English.

I've just signed the petition - put a false surname in as my name is unique and if that list ever becomes public... well, it's one thing being hated by your kids - quite another to be threatened by stronger forces.

I just watched a rather chilling video on the Calais thread posted by OTheHugeManatee.

There was a chap with a megaphone directing, in overcoat, not dressed like the migrants. There were also various crusty (is that still the term?) types standing about helpfully drumming.

The 'no borders' cry was interesting too.

Response from the Home Office:

The events reported in Cologne and elsewhere in Germany were shocking and completely unacceptable. Please let us reassure you that police forces here have the expertise and tactics to respond to any such incidents, including the use of public order and anti-social behaviour powers.

Rape and sexual violence are devastating crimes and the Government is committed to ensuring that every victim has access to the specialist support they need. We expect every incident of sexual violence and rape to be treated seriously, every victim to be treated with dignity and every investigation and every prosecution to be conducted thoroughly and professionally.

This Government is committed to creating a fair society in which all people, of all genders or ethnic origin or faith, are valued, able to participate fully and realise their full potential.
The Prime Minister has recently announced that Louise Casey will carry out a review of how to boost opportunity and integration in specific communities and bring Britain together as one nation. The Department for Communities and Local Government will be guided by her findings in launching a new Cohesive Communities Programme (CCP) this year, focusing resources on improving integration and increasing opportunity in those communities that most need it.

I hope you will find this information helpful.

January on the photos of the migrants storming the boats, there was a very well dressed girl in the middle with a placard laughing.

she was in congruous.

It all makes sense now.

Its a far left group promoting the riots and using vulnerable young men.

I know "some£" posters husbands go and help in Calais certainly not a slur on them.....but its clear this group are infiltrating by doing good works helping the migrants and thereby using them for their own ends and putting these vulnerable migrants lives in danger and ruining their reputation of all the migrants there Sad
