Most people would prefer their children to not be gay, maybe so they wouldn't be at risk of being thrown off buildings Hmm

SonyaAtTheSamovar · 05/02/2016 16:17

BillSykesDog.

David Davis MP, former Shadow Home Sec., is possibly leading EU out campaign.

David TC Davies is the MP for Monmouth.

(I thank Google!)

BrittEkland · 05/02/2016 16:58

It's a very odd parent indeed who would wish that one of their children would turn out to be gay! But, if the kid does, it's not the end of the world - just different expectations perhaps for the parents.

Wordsaremything · 05/02/2016 19:01

So the whole issue of DD leading the out campaign and therefore being unwelcome on mumsnet is a red herring, as that is the other DD.

So, Mumsnet H Q, why did you pull out of formally hosting this web chat?

Thanks ever so.

I stand corrected! Thank you.

Moreshabby, doyou think that is why some people would prefer their kids not to be gay: I don't.

emilybohemia · 05/02/2016 21:25

Lumela, 'Even the Christians who think homosexuality is a sin are often very conflicted about it and would never treat a gay person badly'. I feel this is possibly the position of some Muslims too.

hefzi · 05/02/2016 22:23

Mariscall I came over here to link to that - interesting take on the idea of culture and misogyny that perhaps might be more palatable to the people who deny it, given that it's not coming from MN posters but from the Muslim Women's Network.

Palebluedotty · 05/02/2016 22:45

Muslim women 'stopped from becoming Labour councillors' www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-35504185

"They don't like women to be heard, to be empowered, because we will then challenge the status quo, challenge misogyny."

Snap! I too just saw this on the BBC and wanted to link to it. I agree Hefzi, perhaps those who like to bury their heads in the political sand will listen when it's Muslim women saying it. Thumbs up for the Muslim Women's Network.

BillSykesDog · 05/02/2016 23:01

Biraderi is a big problem in the selection process and not just for women.

In Rotherham 50% of the unpaid officer roles for Labour are unfilled, and none of those that are filled are filled by a Kashmiri. These are the people who administer the local party, knock on doors, deliver leaflets.

But as soon as paid roles are selected suddenly Kashmiri candidates who've only attended one or two meetings arrive. Kashmiri's start attending the meetings in great numbers, and a Kashmiri is elected because they've mobilised the Biraderi, whereas good candidates who've put in a lot of work are passed over because they simply don't have these huge networks to call on.

MariscallRoad · 06/02/2016 00:29

hefzi I have no opinion on that. I follow the experiences of posters here and is interesting. I have not studied cultural geography. London has so many different cultures and many languages are spoken. I d say where I live in London there is not a specific minority or majority. London can be a harsh place to raise a family. In my little neighbourhood of inner London drugs related offences has been the biggest chronic problem. There are criminal damages to properties related to that. You have read the fires that erupted London in 2011? if you find Youtube videos that show what had happened - that was real anarchy. I stayed then indoors for days and so were my neighbours. Sirens went off all night - I could not sleep. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2011_England_riots The mall across my flat was set on fire. I remember Wales and Scotland had to sent reinforcements of police to London to contain the problem.
I read here and there news and magazines and if I find something of interest I post it for all.

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3434708/Iraqi-migrant-raped-10-year-old-boy-swimming-pool-Vienna-told-police-sexual-emergency-hadn-t-sex-months.html

I am interested to read the migrant sympathisers views on this piece of shite, I'm sure they will have some good reason for his behaviour.

As far as I'm concerned he can go to hell, failing that send him back to Iraq.

januarybrown1998 · 06/02/2016 12:59

22 assaults at Koln Karneval at least the BBC, Independent etc are reporting.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 06/02/2016 13:06

Interesting that, according to that Independent article, the Cologne police have refused to give the origin of the 190 folk they've arrested at the carnival, simply describing them as "a cross section of the general public"

I very much hope that's true, as yet another cover-up surely wouldn't help anything

Chipstick10 · 06/02/2016 14:13

Moreshabby , I'm sure someone will come along to chide you for reading "that right wing Tory rag"

ginghamcricketbox · 06/02/2016 14:17

This is from the Women's rights and Gender Equality (FEMM) Committee of the European Parliament.

Not surprisingly the woman at the end is a Labour MEP.

LumelaMme · 06/02/2016 14:27

I have had Wine. Well, cider, actually. I really shouldn't drink in the middle of the day: it goes immediately to my head...

Consequently, I don't trust myself to post at the moment (including about the link above from gingham which I just watched), but am I the only person who watched the Maryam Namazie video? According to the Thought Police, there are things about ideas that One Must Not Say.

januarybrown1998 · 06/02/2016 14:41

The disgraceful woman at the end is Mary Honeyball MEP, a self-declared 'pro-European feminist' who says it is 'racist and against this committee to blame migrants. (because) They are fleeing places where women are exploited and vulnerable'

She tells Krisztina Morvai that she and the previous speaker who ask about European women's rights and safety in the wake of Cologne that they are, categorically, 'racist and wrong' to ask.

I have emailed her to request an explanation of how she can claim to be any kind of feminist.

Do feel free to join me: [email protected]

What is the Maryam video please?

LumelaMme · 06/02/2016 15:01

Here, you are, jans:

It's long - I spent the evening on it with a lapful of crochet blanket that I'm trying to finish. It was linked upthread. She has an uphill struggle to be heard against people who have turned up with the specific aim of disrupting the talk, and who are incredibly rude and disrespectful.

She's a communist (something I am not and am never likely to be) but I take my hat off to her for her determination, grit and calm: she only lost it once.
