What a pair. Her endorsement speech yesterday was just bonkers - words just fail me when it comes to Donald Trump.

Is this the best America has to offer?

OP posts:

Penis Confused

claig · 22/01/2016 17:25

I don't think the above examples are very respectful or suitable to describe Donald Trump. Remember he is not one of the "political class".

I suspect that Compos had more fitting words like populist or pragmatist in mind to describe Donald J Trump.

Owllady · 22/01/2016 17:34

You know as much as we do Calif
I was going along the sounds like a pianist theme

Owllady · 22/01/2016 17:35

Calif I mean claig

JeNeSaisQoui · 22/01/2016 18:07

ABetaDad you are soooooooooooo mistaken in the assertion of 'Trump is a self-made man to some degree', and frankly it's alarming that anyone believes such a thing (this is why I do believe there is a chance of him actually winning - people are believing the rhetoric)

UnDeaux is correct, his net worth is LESS than it would have been if he hadn't ever touched a dollar of it....

Genuinely, the idea that he could be the holder of the most powerful office in the world & all the congress in the world will not change the fact that he would be the one man with his finger on the button.... it is truly a fucking terrifying prospect once you remove the humour from it.

JeNeSaisQoui · 22/01/2016 18:10

Claig are you smokin' something special this evening?

'I don't think the above examples are very respectful or suitable to describe Donald Trump' GrinConfusedHmm

could at least offer it round

claig · 22/01/2016 18:18

JeNeSaisQoui, not smoking anything but on fire as usual.

It's just that Trump is not one of the political class and therefore words such as piss-artist and penis are not appropriate for him.

SenecaFalls · 22/01/2016 18:31

Who can they find I wonder?

There's a bit of buzz around Nikki Haley, the governor of South Carolina.

claig · 22/01/2016 18:38

'There's a bit of buzz around Nikki Haley'

Politically correct, she had a go at Trump. Trump fans not happy!

claig · 22/01/2016 18:42

Some of Trump's former insiders have said that Marco Rubio would not be a bad choice for VP under Trump. Rubio is Establishment, hasn't attacked Trump really yet, and Trump needs Florida to win the election and Rubio may be able to deliver Florida.

Shirkingfromhome · 22/01/2016 18:44

Just pulling a chair up for this one Grin

It's a gruesome twosome if ever I saw one and it would be hilarious if there wasn't a precedent for voting in complete numpties (Bush). Be afraid!

FatherReboolaConundrum · 22/01/2016 18:50

If Trump did get the nomination (still unlikely) who on earth would agree to be his VP running mate? It would have to be someone willing to act as a low-profile minder to someone who doesn't want anyone else hogging the limelight (Trump's body language as Palin refused to stop talking was a joy to behold) and who would inject some kind of credibility into the ticket but who, even by political standards, has no shame and who is a vocal evangelical, to make up for Trump's total lack of god-related credentials. Basically, it would have to be someone prespared to take one for team GOP. No politician with a future to consider would be likely to do it, or any more senior politician worried about their legacy.

Still, whatever happens, at least this election has given us Sarah Palin: Beat Poet

FatherReboolaConundrum · 22/01/2016 18:53

Cross posted there. Rubio as running mate? There's about as much chance of getting Bernie Sanders to be Trump's VP candidate Grin

claig · 22/01/2016 18:54

'who, even by political standards, has no shame'

All of them. They are the political class.

Rubio could do it. The Establishment love him because they think they can control him. Everyone is saying he will become President one day. With Trump as President, no one would be able to control the President and Rubio could learn his trade in the wings.

Some analysts have said that Kasich may be a choice as well because Trump would need Ohio to win the election. Hopefully it won't be Kasich because he is so establishment, so puppet it is unreal.

claig · 22/01/2016 18:57

'Bernie Sanders Wants Trump Voters'

Everyone wants Trump voters because they are the sharpest voters in the pack, but they are loyal to Trump only.

squishysquirmy · 22/01/2016 19:01

"I heard it from Trump's mouth and he is not known for exaggeration or untruths"
Baa ha ha good one claig!

Varya · 22/01/2016 19:03

Neither of them appeal to me at all.

claig · 22/01/2016 19:03

'If Trump did get the nomination (still unlikely) who on earth would agree to be his VP running mate?'
It can no longer be Cruz. Cruz was very careful not to attack Trump for months, then he finally made his move like a cobra striking out when Trump was blindsided. Fatal mistake for Cruz, Trump has lashed out and called him "a very nasty guy". That alone will finish Cruz. His Establishment friends are desperately trying to hold the show together by calling Trump Establishment. It's all stations go and only Trump will remain standing at the end of it.

Hillary is watching in panic, because she knows that her and Bill are next.

No one trumps the Trump.

claig · 22/01/2016 19:04

'Baa ha ha good one claig!' Grin

FatherReboolaConundrum · 22/01/2016 19:10

claig, Marco Rubio is never, ever going to be the VP running mate of Donald Trump. There are so many reasons why that I'd still be here on Monday morning listing them. But some of the top ones:

No serious GOP politician is going to damage themselves with by association with Trump.

Even if one of them would, in some bizarre turn of events, it wouldn't be the highly ambitious and image conscious (though admittedly pretty thick) Rubio.

If anyone with any common sense is involved in the Trump campaign (a big if, obviously) they wouldn't pick the only other leading fellow candidate with a problematic religious story.

Candidates very rarely pick failed fellow candidates as VP nominees beacuse (a) there's normally a lot of bad blood between them and (b) they are by definition failures and who wants that on the ticket. The last time a candidate selected a serious competitor from that election cycle was Kerry picking Edwards in 2004 - not an experience that anyone would want to repeat.

Then, obviously, there's the fact that Trump isn't going to get the nomination.

FatherReboolaConundrum · 22/01/2016 19:13

Cruz is not 'establishment', unless by that you mean 'someone who has previously won at least one election'. Cruz, like most of the candidates are Tea Party types who have won elections precisely by not being the establishement.

claig · 22/01/2016 19:20

'No serious GOP politician is going to damage themselves with by association with Trump. '

No, they are already starting to come round because they realise that Trump has cross-party appeal and the majority of the Republican base will stand for no one but Trump, no more Establishment puppets. They have had enough.

Bob Dole came out yesterday and said that Cruz would be "cataclysmic" and Trump is better. The Establishment have no choice, Trump has beaten them, they will have to back Trump in the end.

'it wouldn't be the highly ambitious and image conscious (though admittedly pretty thick) Rubio.'

All of the politically correct Establishment ones will tell Rubio to work wth Trump thinking that they will outsmart Trump in the end.

'Candidates very rarely pick failed fellow candidates as VP nominees beacuse (a) there's normally a lot of bad blood between them'

Yes, but unlike Cruz, Rubio has not yet really attacked Trump.

'they wouldn't pick the only other leading fellow candidate with a problematic religious story.'

The Establishment have used "religion" as a trick to fool their base and intentionally lose and give in to the Democrats on every major issue. What the Establishment have discovered in this cycle is that the base doesn't care, Cruz will lose and they all want Trump because the economy trumps religion.

'they are by definition failures'

Everyone is a failure against Trump, but Rubio and Cruz are exceptionally clever people even though Rubio is Establishment. They aren't failures and one day everybody says that Rubio will become President. It took Reagan three attempts to become President. None of them are failures.

'Then, obviously, there's the fact that Trump isn't going to get the nomination.'

Yes, the Establishment may still be able to stop him but it will be one hell of a fight.

claig · 22/01/2016 19:27

'Cruz is not 'establishment', unless by that you mean 'someone who has previously won at least one election'. Cruz, like most of the candidates are Tea Party types who have won elections precisely by not being the establishement.'

True, that is his shtick. But I have watched him and although he is extremely clever, the best debater in the US at one time, it is obvious that it is an act and that he will cave in to the Establishment if he wins. Yu can't trust him to do what he says. Trump has hit him on his Wall Street backers, the Goldman Sachs loan that he "forgot" to declare.

They are all puppets, bought and paid for, apart from Trump.

He has to play the anti-establishment card, and even though most of the Republican Party dislike Cruz, they don't fear him, but they fear Trump.

claig · 22/01/2016 19:37

The COnservative magazine "National Review" has today come out with an entire issue called "Aganst Trump".

Their editorial and lots of their writers have all gone against Trump saying he is not a real conservative.

This is ithe last desperate gasp of the Establishment to stop Trump. Trump is feared by the Establishment because they can't buy him, they can't control him.

When Trump wins, and I think he will, some people will be going to jail. Trump will clean the scandals and corruption up. No one can buy him, he will work for the American people and that is what the Establishment are petrified of.
