"We will now say if you don't improve your fluency, that could affect your ability to stay in the UK'.

The Tories have cut funding for English lessons for immigrants.

I wonder how David Cameron can be integrated into British society?

LittleMamaJama · 18/01/2016 20:31

David Cameron on Muslim women rights- how patronising, what does he know?!

BackToTheNorth · 18/01/2016 20:33

emily

'The Tories have cut funding for English lessons for immigrants.

I wonder how David Cameron can be integrated into British society?'

He's doing a hell of a lot better than Mad Merkel, that's for sure!

polentapies · 18/01/2016 20:35

Well he's also doing better than you Emily. You don't live here

emilybohemia · 18/01/2016 20:41

'Thank you, rumble. I havent seen any TV or papers yet, but did note from the radio how Cameron's speech is being polarized. He's criticised for selecting Muslim women specifically to learn English in order to feel less isolated. The other side is saying that he's unfairly picking on that group and why doesnt he speak about another group?'

What relevance does this have to men attacking women in Cologne help?

polentapies · 18/01/2016 20:48

Maybe you should contact your MP Emily. Oh, wait....

GraceKellysLeftArm · 18/01/2016 20:49

Emily - you've contradicted yourself (again), how can someone who does not speak English be involved in society? (British society).

januarybrown1998 · 18/01/2016 20:50

So shall we collate the resources discussed on this thread or the new petition one?

Where should we post link to sign it?

It's not yet up but I've just spent a happy twenty minutes signing other petitions, though I don't think Yorkshire should have independence Grin

Anyone had any thoughts on what to tweet?

polentapies · 18/01/2016 20:54

Perhaps the same way that Emily is involved in British society - pontificating via the internet.

LittleMamaJama · 18/01/2016 20:57

Thank you Emily and please DO NOT CHANGE x

MariscallRoad · 18/01/2016 21:03

HelpTheAnimalsFirst Thanks for mentioning Vitamin D3. I take it because my consultant recommended. It is great. but costly and you can not have it on NHS prescription.

emilybohemia · 18/01/2016 21:05

Grace, I can't see the relevance of Muslim women's language aquisition to men raping and attacking women in Cologne.

Language is important but being a decent human being is important too.

No chance lovely LittleMama. xxx

glenthebattleostrich · 18/01/2016 21:11

I've got a preliminary list of who to contact. I'm trying to get as many twitter names or other contacts for them.

YetAnotherHelenMumsnet · 18/01/2016 21:14

Hi all,
Just to say that we are nearing the end of this thread, and we at MNHQ would appreciate it if, in the likely event that another is started, everyone could decide in advance not to drag personal dislikes across to the new one. We understand that an important discussion is to be had on this subject but we would be ever so grateful if you would work with us to minimise the number of opportunities for reports by sticking very closely to our guidelines re behaviour? We hope that's okay with you all?

januarybrown1998 · 18/01/2016 21:16

Great! Did you include suggestions from the previous threads? I've done a list of journalists but most seem to be on Twitter rather than email.

Shall I PM it to you?

Shall we publish the sticky info (links to threads, letter templates etc) on the new 'petition' thread?

Are there particular guidelines for petition threads? Or is it standard MN guidelunes?

januarybrown1998 · 18/01/2016 21:16

Guidelunes = only to be used when posting about the moon....

YetAnotherHelenMumsnet · 18/01/2016 21:20

Ha, I was frantically looking for where I'd mis-spelled that, very glad to see it was you rather than me.
Normally we ask that petitions go on the Petitions board, but this is a little different perhaps as it has originated here. Perhaps OTBT (Off The Beaten Track) might be good in terms of organising it, while keeping the actual petition bumped on the main boards (well, in Petitions at least).

glenthebattleostrich · 18/01/2016 21:20

Yes please January. I have some journalists but have tried to include high profile and vocal feminists too. I gathered the names from the previous thread too

januarybrown1998 · 18/01/2016 21:26

Thanks Yetanother!

Can you refresh my memory re guidelines on posting in OTBT?

As I recall, it was set up to be a discrete area which did not show on searches and I think I remember some other things that were discussed?

It's been a while and I think we're all tired after a long squawk!

YetAnotherHelenMumsnet · 18/01/2016 21:28

Oh gosh now you're talking... I can't recall any specific rules other than our usual 'don't be horrible to each other as it causes MNHQ a ton of work and makes them cry into their gin', but it's late and I could be wrong...

CalmYoBadSelf · 18/01/2016 21:32

glen I have pm'd you a suggestion of someone for the list

MariscallRoad · 18/01/2016 21:41

No trolling, misleading or deliberately inflammatory behaviour
No trollhunting
No spamming
januarybrown1998 · 18/01/2016 21:44

Thanks all.

It was a particularly sensitive thread that ended up in OTBT, maybe that's why I thought it was a bit different.

thanks though! And to you too Mariscal

glenthebattleostrich · 18/01/2016 22:11

Thanks for the PM's I've added them to my list. I'm plugging through finding contact details and will hopefully have a list by tomorrow evening. Keep em coming!

HelenMumsnet, would you like to come hide in my gin cupboard? I have several types of gin, fever tree and fentimans tonic! yes I'm showing off now
