Thread 6.

OP posts:

Thank you! That's quite an unambiguous message.

And we must never again allow passive tolerance to prevent us from telling the hard truths

I will be overjoyed if that comes true.

unlucky83 · 18/01/2016 09:34

That is really positive!
So pleased that finally the erosion of Women's rights in some communities is being acknowledged as a problem and some action being taken.

Will be interested to read the Guardian's take on it...

I just want to to say that I am in awe of you all for starting the petition and keeping these threads going for over 4000 posts. I never imagined this would happen when I posted the first link to the story, I just knew it needed to be talked about.I have read every one of your contributions and many (actually most) of you were able to to express my feelings about this much better than I could.

with the understanding that
education, while a wonderful thing, is very likely to alter in any way
lifetime cultural values

Rumble your email has been sent but I think you missed out the un in unlikley.....

Great email though and good response.

agree with Rumble lets all ignore posters who are deliberately trying to shut us all up, we have a voice and we will be heard, and get this petition back on track. Well done to all who have contributed

100% ^ but always remember to let MNHQ if you have any concerns about a poster.

'Cologne assaults a mass act of misogyny'

Igneoc, how do you know women didn't go to the police about what happened to them at Carneval or Oktoberest?

You said, 'I assume many of the women attacked on NYE also celebrate Karneval and the fact they went to the police to complain about this rather shows that they felt it was very different to what happens during Karneval'.

I think it's just more the case that noone took it serously until foreigners were believed to be involved.

emilybohemia · 18/01/2016 11:36

Justanother

You see twist, trying to go for the emotional narrative is disingenuous to those posting here as you know nothing about anyone, virtue signalling isn't a nice trait'

I think pointing out that some of the comments on these threads may incite more hate is actually an important point.

'for instance you don't know know if I have spent time in the 'jungle' of calais, dealing with mostly (I never said all) economic migrants'

I'm guessing you haven't from your attitude andpoorly founded claim that they are mostly economic migrants.

'Never the less, the issue in Calais is not related directly to the theme of thread, it may get swept up in the narrative if it progresses re immigration, but that still does not make it of limits for discussion'.

I think it gets swept up in the narrative because many of you are using the attacks in Cologne to generate fear and hysteria and connect it to the issue of immigration.

'And being called a troll is insignificant in terms of being slandered a racist. Emily is specifically trying to make it an either/or scenario'.

I have said people are being racist when I see them being racist. I am not interested in slandering people.

I think many posters on these threads have more of an interest in contributing to immigrants and Muslims being viewed with extreme suspicion, than in women's rights. Isis would be overjoyed.

Hello all.

Where can we sign the petition?

Inkanta · 18/01/2016 11:47

Hello there.

Yes the petition IS going to happen. Wild horses won't stop us.

We wait.

MariscallRoad · 18/01/2016 11:54

LongWayRound · 18/01/2016 11:59

kesstrel Thanks for the link to the publicspirit article. Some of the organisations mentioned in the comments look interesting.

'I sometimes fear...
I sometimes fear that people might think that fascism arrives in fancy dress worn by grotesques and monsters as played out in endless re-runs of the Nazis. Fascism arrives as your friend. It will restore your honour, make you feel proud, protect your house, give you a job, clean up the neighbourhood, remind you of how great you once were, clear out the venal and the corrupt, remove anything you feel is unlike you...It doesn't walk in saying, "Our programme means militias, mass imprisonments, transportations, war and persecution.'

Looking forward to the petition also.

unlucky83 · 18/01/2016 12:19

Afaik Petition has been lodged, verified and is waiting for the final approval.
All we can do for now is make sure we have all the tools ready to promote it when it goes live.

I posted what I think is a copy of lumela's letter - but someone mentioned something by Rumble - we do need something that includes the wording for the petition link. Does someone want to work on something we can put out as a template letter/email?
And come up with good people to contact when it is...

Moreshabbythanchic · 18/01/2016 12:20

Glad to see the thread is back on track with no disruptions. Does anyone know when the petition will be ready?

WillBeatJanuaryBlues · 18/01/2016 12:23

As far as I know its been submitted and has to be seen by someone in parliament (?) then l think once its been approved it goes live?

SonyaAtTheSamovar · 18/01/2016 12:51

Talkingin generally about petitions on Daily Politics now.BBC 2.

glenthebattleostrich · 18/01/2016 12:55

I'll have some time this evening to collate all the names it was suggested we contact over the last couple of threads. Is it worth starting a separate thread asking for further suggestions when I've done this?

I'm also happy to do a few template letters, based on the ones already written to send to people.
