Hey Help

Welcome back!

Yes I think it would be a good idea, and also who to ask to retweet the link to the petition

HelpTheAnimalsFirst · 18/01/2016 17:42

Thank you, polentapies.

So what's your take on the activities of the Brits around Val d'Isere ski resort?.

I really see no difference between their attitude and those men in Cologne. It goes to show that this has nothing to do with culture after all. Savages are savages- regardless of where they come from.

VertigoNun · 18/01/2016 17:43

Help is back!

Where is the petition?

Moreshabbythanchic · 18/01/2016 17:43

Phew, thank goodness you're back Help.

HelpTheAnimalsFirst · 18/01/2016 17:49

Thank you Vertigo and MoreShabby. Submitted, receipt acknowledged now waiting for that dept to confirm they are putting it online. op is checking and rechecking to see if it has gone 'live'. Nothing as yet.

HelpTheAnimalsFirst · 18/01/2016 18:04

Thanks, Inkanta. Thanks, those old police cells are not very comfortable. And the policemen even less so. lol

Ryan Air just sent me a marketing email exhorting me to explore Cologne Hmm. Not sure I'll be taking that one up - must be the most misguided marketing strategy possible at this time!

WidowWadman · 18/01/2016 18:14

sportinguista Cologne is a lovely city well worth exploring. And no more dangerous than any other European city

RufusTheReindeer · 18/01/2016 18:14

Xemily

Please stop using the word "comfortable" when discussing the reporting of sexual assaults

I am sure that none of the women either in Cologne or Oktoberfest felt "comfortable" having to go through what one imagines to be quite an invasive and potentially upsetting reporting system

RufusTheReindeer · 18/01/2016 18:16

Oh and nice to see you back help

unlucky83 · 18/01/2016 18:24

littlemama have you got a link to what you are talking about? - from what I can see it is just a lot of young people getting drunk and being stupid...don't approve of that behaviour - think it doesn't reflect well on the UK
But as far as I can see no reports of mass sexual assaults/rape/robberies carried out by gangs.... I can't see the connection?
(And welcome back Help!)

sportinguista · 18/01/2016 18:25

I know it probably is a great city. Just a shame that all this has happened at all.

I must say that following several threads, emily has done herself no favours and appears to be one of the least articulate and well informed posters I've ever seen on mumsnet. Just because we don't like something in this world it doesn't make it un-exist. There are many things that I'd rather weren't a fact of life - but they are. I prefer to deal with issues rather than pretend they don't exist.

It's like my dining room ceiling - I'd much rather there wasn't a leak, but since it's there I'm dealing with it, and although it's a lot of work it will be fixed in the end. This issue is the same although it may take decades, but we'll get nowhere pretending it doesn't. May emily enjoy her fairyland full of pink unicorns and fluffy bunnies...

emilybohemia · 18/01/2016 18:27

I'll use whichever words I like thank you Rufus. I think my meaning was clear. It is interesting that you have to pinpoint that one word rather than discussing the facts of the assaults.

As a victim of sexual abuse by a family member, I can say I felt comfortable in disclosing the abuse to police because they supported me and didn't judge me and they made it clear what happened to me was wrong. I don't mean that it was an enjoyable experience by any stretch of the imagination.

I could have said 'didn't feel happy with¨' in my previous post. Similarly, I would not mean that women reporting felt happy recounting their experiences. I think that goes without saying.

glenthebattleostrich · 18/01/2016 18:29

Welcome back help. Glad to see you.

VertigoNun · 18/01/2016 18:35

HelpTheAnimalsFirst Hi Welcome back.

sportinguista · 18/01/2016 18:41

Thank you, I do happen to like unicorns, but I do live in the real world, and my reality is slap bang in a muslim area with people from all over the world. We do coexist pretty happily and there are a wide range of cultural practices, some good, some not so. And in case emily accuses me of being racist, I spoke to a lady in a face veil today (and do so most days), she is my son's friends mum and is perfectly lovely and no I've never enquired as to why she wears it. I don't happen to agree with it myself but not gonna blank her and emily can call away at me. Just don't agree we should ignore that the world ain't a pretty place and that some things don't happen.

polentapies · 18/01/2016 18:44

Was just a wee joke because you mentioned them, wasn't having a go.

You will be singing that song all night though.....

MariscallRoad · 18/01/2016 18:47

HelpTheAnimalsFirst What time is your dinner?
I am preparing family's. Today I recovered from flue. Extending this thread is great. It gathered momentum.

HelpTheAnimalsFirst · 18/01/2016 18:51

Afghanistan. So wonderful to see those fotos in a newspaper. I hope some Afghanis get to see them, esp. those who never knew their country of birth could have been so lovely. Iraq too apparently was a lush, green place with gardens of luxuriant blooms.
