'I've stayed in some cultures and never the twain shall meet.'

If that's not prejudice, I don't know what is. Very BNP. Or Britain First. One of those groups for people with sawdust for brains anyway.

WillBeatJanuaryBlues · 16/01/2016 10:09

Oh, and I completely agree about inviting immigrant women including muslims to join any campaign, since abuse is abuse no matter who it's committed against. Where any women are involved I'd hope their support would be readily given

standing up to these attacks - with the rights and the freedoms western women enjoy will enourmoulsy, help, galvanize and give hope to women who are at the start of the road fighting for rights in back ward repressive countries and show women who know no different, there is another way.

WillBeatJanuaryBlues · 16/01/2016 10:13

batshit

maybe they need help with how to make it safe for women without fearing the racisit slur.

simply - men who behave in an inappropriate manner must leave the swimming pool?

Excellent wording conveys the message clearly.
travelling. Spot on - I learned history at school.
Cultural is excellent word.

enforce measures that is good.

WillBeatJanuaryBlues · 16/01/2016 10:28

It may seem alarmist, but this is all highly unusual in a country where women are generally used to a high degree of personal safety. In recent years, the number of rape cases and associated offences in Germany has fallen by around 8 per cent.

^^

WillBeatJanuaryBlues · 16/01/2016 10:31

In Hamburg, where a series of attacks also took place on New Year’s Eve, bouncers warned women not to leave nightclubs because of an increasingly hostile crowd on the streets.

But the warning was so unusual that several women ignored it and were sexually assaulted by those waiting outside.

Witnesses have told newspapers that men were entering bars and clubs, grabbing women’s backsides.

One woman only identified at Katia L, 28, told the Cologne tabloid Express that she and three friends were stopped by a group of ‘foreign looking men’ outside the station.

everywhere, no escape.

Great article by Allison Pearson.

has anyone emailed her at all?

Theydontknowweknowtheyknow · 16/01/2016 10:39

There's also been a social media backlash against this cover of the German Focus magazine. Even when reporting on actual sex crimes women are still to be sexualized.

IonaMumsnet · 16/01/2016 10:43

Morning all. Just popping by with a quick reminder to please be civil to each other. We're all entitled to our opinion, as long as those opinions remain within talk guidelines, but we'll delete any posts that seem to be attacking others or troll-hunting.

LongWayRound · 16/01/2016 10:53

How about this article for inclusion?

www.politico.eu/article/europes-man-problem/

"The recent surge of migration into Europe has been unprecedented in scope, with an estimated 1 million migrants from the Middle East and North Africa this past year alone, making for a massive humanitarian crisis, as well as a political and moral dilemma for European governments. But one crucial dimension of this crisis has gone little-noticed: sex or, more technically, sex ratios. According to official counts, a disproportionate number of these migrants are young, unmarried, unaccompanied males."

Constancegardner · 16/01/2016 10:57

Morning everyone, some thought full posts and careful use of words on this topic. Please don't let's be derailed by certain individuals who want to tar some/all with a certain word beginning with R.

As I think Help said its the usual tactic, and usually very effective at smothering discussion, and wasting time. Just how many angels can dance on the head of a pin btw?
Onwards.

WillBeatJanuaryBlues · 16/01/2016 10:59

I have emailed Allison Pearson.

WillBeatJanuaryBlues · 16/01/2016 11:01

Ironic isn't it, that we have to struggle to have a discussion about womens rights and safety on Mumsnet. Confused

And the poster seems to be allowed to stay.

rumbleinthrjungle · 16/01/2016 11:04

Great collection of articles, great wording on petition. The person able to do this (hurrah, thank you!) is going to be able to put it up this afternoon, is that right?

ItsJustaUsername · 16/01/2016 11:06

Quite WillBeat.
Troll-hunting=bad
Trolls=fine

WidowWadman · 16/01/2016 11:07

Willbeat - it's pretty unsavoury when "women's safety" is used as a thin veil for xenophobic prejudice. I'm glad Mumsnet have stepped in.

emilybohemia · 16/01/2016 11:08

Any thoughts IonaMumsnet on the posts being left to stand on Mumsnet that state women that wear hijabs are hostile and sending out a message to Western women that they are superior? Or posts where people state they wouldn't speak to someone in a burkha?

I am all for free speech but I am mystified as to why so many unpleasant comments on the Cologne threads have been left but the recent unpleasant travellers thread was deleted? Mumsnet needs to maintain the balance of free speech whilst monitoring the spreadng of stereotypes and racist generalisations a bit better in my opinion.

I realise anyone can comment on Mumsnet but it seems clear to me that the far right have a hand in these threads and that is something that needs careful consideration from Mumsnet HQ. It must be very difficult, but I worry that much of these threads is not in the spirit of the tolerant and inclusive nature of mumsnet and many people may feel alienated from mumsnet if prejudice and posts motivated by hatred toward a particular group go unchallenged.

I don't like the personal attacks and have reported them, but what worries me more are the posts that incite against a particular group.

Mumsnet HQ, these threads frighten and concern me a lot.

WillBeatJanuaryBlues · 16/01/2016 11:09

I'm glad Mumsnet have stepped in.

I thought MN had stepped in to protect the work on this thread from the de railers?

I was adding my voice in support of that. Not the other way round.

Emily, I have faith that however is at MNHQ do read these threads, and can see the articles, the sentiment in them are operating at a far higher level than the level YOU are trying to drag these threads down too.

WillBeatJanuaryBlues · 16/01/2016 11:12

I am all for free speech

Emily you have been trying to derail and close down these threads from the start.

Thank goodness you have not been allowed too.
