Hey - I think you've got Ego wrong. Calm down - you're on the same side!

fidel1ne · 08/01/2016 19:56

Thanks Dawn. That's a relief.

fidel1ne Wilde

I have been following these threads, and I'm afraid ego has not minimised any of this. She has been one of the constant contributors to the threads, calling for non of this to be minimised.

You are preaching to the converted

Something has to change in the German government's policies on public safety. Although they're clearly desperate not to appear racist in any way, one thing that highlights the lack of perception and foresight at the highest levels regarding the refugees in Germany, is the simple fact that the demographic group that commits the vast majority of crimes in any country are young males. This holds true the world over regardless of culture. When over a million people suddenly arrive in a new country overnight, around 80% of whom are young males, the crime rate is going to increase no matter where they came from. Further indicators for likely criminal behaviour are low education, low income, high unemployment and poor job prospects, also lack of family support. What happens to the refugees in Germany? They cannot work, they live on subsistence benefits, they cannot speak the language and their educational levels are likely very low for most of them. They are in Germany alone away from their families. These men are in a rich country that they walk around in everyday but they are shut out of German society. I am only amazed that events like Cologne didn't happen sooner to be honest.

Whatever happens, I hope that the German authorities can increases police levels (will take some time) and strictly enforce the law regardless of the ethnicity of the suspect.

" was simply stating that women in this country fear men. Being raped, assaulted, subject to DV and being killed by their partner. Women are objectified in the press - especially the Daily fucking Mail which is getting on its high horse about this yet continues to be as mysoginistic as fuck."

I agree with you Ego, very much so. I am still glad DM are reporting on it though in this instance, eve if they are using it to their own end.

I want all misogynist behaviour challenged.
I want all minimising of gender-based violence challenged.

I want women to feel safe, even when out and about after dark.
I want degrading and violent representation of women in the media and especially in porn absolutely challenged.

I did like the "reclaim the night" idea one poster suggested on thread1.

I don't want what happened on NYE in Cologne and elsewhere to belong to the far right just because the rest of civil society are too scared to talk about it or are worried about racial tensions. Law and order is needed. To install this, transparency is essential. Victims and the press must be able to say "these people did it" "they look like this" "they spoke this language" without fear or shame and without being called racist.

Inter cultural cohesion must be achieved in our society by transparency, debate, community engagement and also ale and order.

Shouting racist at every little thing is doing everyone a massive disfavour. It become meaningless and stifling.

I want respect for women.
And a decent foreign political strategy for the UK and Europe.

Is there a way to view all posts rather than max 100 and having to pagination?

A I've the go button there's a little link to show all 1,000 posts, or however many are on the thread.

You can also change how many posts are shown per page when reading threads. I have mine set to 100 per page.

Oops sorry, just saw you wanted more than 100 ignore my last paragraph Blush

fidel1ne · 08/01/2016 20:02

Okay Ego but why are you posting this;

Sadly - women in this country are still treated awfully by some men. Groped, sexual harassment, DV, rape etc etc.

It's just that the levels are no where near as bad as in other cultures. But it's still crap. There are many many men in this country who treat women as objects.

What is the point are you making if not to minimize the breath-taking news that sexual assault is now a new weapon of terrorist action in Europe?

Maybe it was your use of the word 'just' but I'm really struggling to catch what your point is if it isn't downplaying what happened on NYE.

I really don't understand.

WildeWoman · 08/01/2016 20:04

I'm sorry PinkChamp - but 'also ale and order' gave me a giggle.

I can just see myself swilling ale, calling 'ORDER'

Ego - while our culture could be a hell of a lot better, that is not the issue being discussed?
What is being discussed is that our culture is about to get a helluva lot worse!

fidel1ne · 08/01/2016 20:08

The right are going to get ownership of it, unfortunately, because the left just don't seem to have the language or the will to address it head honestly or to keep a step ahead of the implications.

venusinscorpio · 08/01/2016 20:11

TempsPerdu

I’m also another one who has been deeply disturbed by the virtual media blackout, and in particular by the risible stance the Guardian has taken on this. As a fully signed-up, lentil-munching liberal, the Guardian has long been my news outlet of choice, but lately I’ve become more aware of their twisting of every news story to fit an increasingly narrow, right-on agenda, and their focus on middle class metropolitan navel gazing at the expense of important news stories and proper investigative journalism. Glad that today’s CIF comments are overwhelmingly negative – the ‘editors’ picks’ alone sum up why they’ve just lost another reader. If they’ve managed to alienate a middle-class, London-dwelling creative like me, I’ve no idea who they do purport to represent (and I don’t think they do either).

Totally agree. You exactly sum up my position on it.

fidel1ne · 08/01/2016 20:12

The point I am making is that our culture is pretty crap towards women.

Must we really run through this litany of the obvious before we address anything, though? We KNOW our western culture isn't perfect or free of misogyny.

It belongs in the same redundant preface in which we all carefully establish that we're not racist before getting to the point.

I can see why you might feel the need, but bloody hell it's exhausting and it clutters the place up.

claig · 08/01/2016 20:12

'The right are going to get ownership of it, unfortunately, because the left just don't seem to have the language or the will to address it head honestly or to keep a step ahead of the implications.'

I think this is right. There is nothing the left can do to stop it because they have been shown to be too weak and seem paralysed by political correctness which prevents them from acting.

venusinscorpio · 08/01/2016 20:14

Fidel1ne

You're entirely correct. How depressing.

Cologne on r 4 any questions now

Thanks words

And lest we should forget JUST how strong women can be, here are two of my favourites:

Boudica

and Gráinne Mhaol

Time to stop being the good little girleens.

Budica burned London and other cities to the ground as the Romans raped her two daughters.

Gráinne was just a fierce mad wildewoman ;)

Pinkchampchoccies · 08/01/2016 20:18

"because the left just don't seem to have the language or the will to address it head honestly or to keep a step ahead of the implications.
"

And that is a very big problem. This is one of the things that absolutely needs to change. We live in a diverse society. This will not change. I quite like it. However the pendulum has swung too far to the other side and women of all ethnicities and cultures in Europe are being disadvantaged and their free movement openly and casually curtailed. This is an outrage.
