9/11. Not interested in a debate here, but can we just have a quick show of hands?

I'm just interested in how many people around here are also highly skeptical of what we have been told about 9/11.

I'm really not after a debate (it would be long, involved, probably pointless and personally I have done this elsewhere), but I just wanted to see who is around.

It has very strong ongoing relevance for current world events.

Many thanks.

I don't believe any of the conspiracy theories - it's all nonsense.

SwedishEdith · 12/10/2015 19:51

*I am not trying to be ignorant. I am trying to point out that human beings are programmed to fight for survival.

When a boat starts to sink, people try to save themselves. When a bomb goes off, people run and try to get to safety*

I'm not sure that's true. There's accounts of plane crashes and ferry sinkings (the Tallin one) were people just wait to be told what to do. The biggest hindrance to survival is that people often freeze.

Also, within 24 hours there were plenty of recordings on the news of people's final messages. They might not have known (although probably did) they were their final messages but they were clearly worried enough to make the calls. Harrowing to hear.

WhoTheFuckIsSimon · 12/10/2015 19:55

I don't believe in any conspiracy theories at all.

tomatodizzy · 12/10/2015 19:56

I flew from Heathrow to Ontario on Sept 10 2001. DH flew from Rio to I think it was Atlanta on the 11th. We were both detained by customs. The security on international flights was on high alert on both 10th and the morning of the 11th. Neither of us were ever detained before or have ever been since, we both held US work visas. We both caught connecting flights to the US city we were living in at the time. The internal security was zero. They were expecting something, I'm 100% sure of it, but something from outside not within. It must have been knowledge in the UK, Brazil and Canada too, as we both saw people pulled out of the queue and questioned when we boarded the planes. I have never seen that on such a large scale before or since either. As for other conspiracies. No I don't believe them.

DolphinsPlayground · 12/10/2015 19:58

I don't think we get told everything for security reasons.

WhoTheFuckIsSimon · 12/10/2015 20:02

Oh and I can believe that there was what I believe is referred to as "chatter", which would have led security forces to believe that something was been planned. But I don't believe anyone knew what was planned, exact dates, location, method.

So I can believe that yes maybe they're keeping quiet that they had suspicions to avoid all the "why didn't you warn people" accusations. Because before then they didn't although I believe they're quicker now to publicise that there is an increased security risk, etc........

BMW6 · 12/10/2015 20:10

No. Utter bilge (all the conspiracy theories).

BMW6 · 12/10/2015 20:12

I wanted to add - Conspiracy theorists make a mint by writing books for the gullible to suck up.

Babytookacupwoo · 12/10/2015 20:24

Really? I can't think of any rich conspiracy theorists. Swivel eyed loons with cheap websites, yes

mollyonthemove · 12/10/2015 20:38

Funny this should come up, I have been watching various pieces about the attacks recently for some reason (go through phases!) and yesterday saw the footage of bush at the kids school when he found out. The kids were chanting words with the teacher, some of which were apparently 'Plane. Hurt. Steel' . possibly made up but a bloody great coincidence if not

claig · 12/10/2015 20:48

'Really? I can't think of any rich conspiracy theorists.'

It is said that Alex Jones of infowars.com is a multi-millionaire. But you've got to be good to do that. He gets millions of listeners.

sparechange · 12/10/2015 20:48

aFew
I'm going to gloss over the bit where you all but accuse me of being 'a feel good hoax'

Google Cantor Fitzgerald and what happened to their staff on the day of the attacks.
Their offices were just above the impact site.

In actually not going to dignify your nonsense any further but feel free to knock yourself out with a bit of research that doesn't revolve around swivel eye conspiracy websites or some vague theory you have on how people should react in an emergency.

penguinsarecool · 12/10/2015 20:51

The Pentagon is weird. The world's most defended building and they only have some poor stills of the plane impact. You would have thought there would have been multiple camera angles but they decide not release them.

MinesAPintOfTea · 12/10/2015 20:59

penguins maybe the US security services don't want high quality images of the damaged Pentagon in circulation. Especially as this would include their own colleagues.

thehypocritesoaf · 12/10/2015 20:59

I'm with expat.

there is a type of person who race to believe in conspiracy theories and they are usually poorly educated but think they're very bright, very under achieving and often nuts.

penguinsarecool · 12/10/2015 21:01

Yeah but the one video they released of the pentegon seems a bit inconclusive. If they had to release one video then why not release one to put to bed the conspirac theories?

LibrariesGaveUsP0wer · 12/10/2015 21:03

Because why should they? Maybe thy just released one that showed the minimum of Pentagon information. It isn't there job to disprove nut jobs

bodenbiscuit · 12/10/2015 21:03

How do you define a conspiracy theory though, thehypocrtiesoath?

At one time the stories about Jimmy Savile were considered conspiracy theories. And they turned out to be true.

I am not saying I believe the ones about 9/11. But there is an awful lot that is covered up. Which gives rise to crazier stories.

LibrariesGaveUsP0wer · 12/10/2015 21:03

*their job

Backforthis · 12/10/2015 21:08

Tinfoil hat anyone?

thehypocritesoaf · 12/10/2015 21:13

No I don't believe the stories about jimmy saville was a conspiracy theory.

I find it amusing that the op is not interested in a debate- just a show of hands- typical conspiracy theorist!

LibrariesGaveUsP0wer · 12/10/2015 21:22

Jimmy Saville wasn't a conspiracy theory though. It was a rumour.

claig · 12/10/2015 21:27

'Jimmy Saville wasn't a conspiracy theory though'

The cover up was a conspiracy, just as the Cyril Smith one was where files were removed and people were told to shut up.

birdsdestiny · 12/10/2015 21:31

Sparechange, your response was very dignified.

sparechange · 12/10/2015 21:33

Penguin
Because that isn't how conspiracy theorists work.

You know those poor journalists who were shot live on air?

There are now hundreds if not thousands of videos and forum pages where whack jobs present their theories on how it didn't happen, was all staged by actors etc. And there are two actual films of it happening.

If you think a bit of footage of the pentagon will appease or silence them, you are sadly mistaken. They are irrational people who can't be reasoned with
