New thread again.

Thread 1 - started when 3 Israeli boys were found murdered.

Thread 2 - in which we mainly discussed Operation Protective Edge.

Thread 3 - in which we continued to discuss Operation Protective Edge, the wider conflict and international involvement.

Thread 4 - in which Operation Protective Edge was examined further and we looked at the different views from inside Israel and the international community.

Another reminder of the Mumsnet Talk Guidelines.

Londongirl

yes, whenever I go out and kill a few children, playing football on a beach, or in a school or hospital, I always say it's not my fault, and blame the parents. Don't you?

TheHoneyBadger · 14/08/2014 13:57

i didn't view the video - as ever whether it be pro israel or pro palestine where i see hints of racism and lower level thinking and tribalism i skim.

i'm mainly here to connect with people doing higher level thinking and identifying with humanity over and above nation and religion and whatever other tribe.

i thank god massively that there are increasing numbers of us who are seeking each other out and identifying on that level. it looks like the ethical equivalent of evolution to me (not to be confused with social darwinism because clearly it's a very different mechanism of movement).

you should join us - the future is this way and it would be nice for you to be part of it.

Backinthering · 14/08/2014 14:01

HomeHelpMeGawd no that wasn't aimed at you. It's stuff that friends of friends have been posting and linking to on fb.
I liked "herring"!

TheHoneyBadger · 14/08/2014 14:01

and you know whether you look at social history or the bible (old or new testament) or the koran or whatever the message is the same. there's a forward motion and it's based on people who recognise humanity, love, compassion and being the best we can be OVER and above territorialism, greed, base hatred and bigotry etc.

there's a simple message written large through every religion and through history and through the natural laws of the world. thankfully a hell of a lot of people nowadays (whatever their nation, religion, atheism etc) are waking up and feeling that common sense.

we have to cross our fingers and hope that that awakening happens fast enough to stop destructive fucking pyschopaths destroying the world before we get to move on to the next level.

TheHoneyBadger · 14/08/2014 14:08

(off topic social aside but: to those amazing posters who've been here since the start and fought off 12 rounds of detraction per thread apologies for my absence. dealing with stuff in my own life which is obviously miniscule compared to this shit but none the less part of the same picture be it macro/micro whichever. if you don't give a damn what nationality, race, religion or age or whatever other allegedly distinguishing feature a person is but only care if they are on the side of basic humanity and decency then yay! it seems we have a little tribe of our own and for once it's one worth being a part of. i suspect most of us, to reach this point, will have had to alienate ourselves in part or total from the tribal positions we were assigned and have dealt with all the subsequent consequences. never mind, it was worth it! we get to be human and decent and on the side of life. peace be with you, shalom, assam alekum, whatever! keep on being human and alive)

JohnFarleysRuskin · 14/08/2014 14:08

Gotcha, its ok to post anti-semitism, but its not ok to point it out.
Understood.

The ethical equivalent of evolution? That would be wonderful. I can see how ethical everyone is on all the fantastically busy threads on Mumsnet discussing the rest of the Middle East. I can see the planned protests, the letter writing, and the boycotts about ALL oppressive regimes.
Oh what? My mistake, there aren't ANY.

It must be too hard to care about two things at the same time, even when you're massively evolved.

I have consistently condemned the current Israeli Govts actions and will continue to do so, but the last thing I would want is to join is you 'people doing higher level thinking' Grin

TheHoneyBadger · 14/08/2014 14:11

whatever john - i recommend you read back because all of what you've said has been addressed repeatedly. enjoy that paycheck. maybe it will buy you some education.

TheHoneyBadger · 14/08/2014 14:12

top tip: pick a university that isn't owned and run by a dictator state. it helps.

TheHoneyBadger · 14/08/2014 14:15

oh and another aside i want people on here to know that after a few years of wobbling i think i will move back to the middle east. it may seem logical to hide far away but i think actually i'd rather be at the 'eye of the storm' with the people immediately effected. i don't have that much in common with sleepwalkers.

JohnFarleysRuskin · 14/08/2014 14:16

Pay-check?

What's that mean?

halfdrunkcoffee · 14/08/2014 14:21

I think sadly you are being accused of being a Hasbara troll JFR.

JohnFarleysRuskin · 14/08/2014 14:31

Wow Shock

TheHoneyBadger · 14/08/2014 14:37

sorry to have shocked you and apologies but we've had some rather strange activity on this thread and quite a few people banned who just magically appeared to make arguments like your own.

JohnFarleysRuskin · 14/08/2014 14:41

I was shocked. It does show how entrenched 'sides' have become if good people would think like that.

Thanks
halfdrunkcoffee · 14/08/2014 14:43

You can search for a user's posting history if you suspect them of not being a genuine MNer, THB. This thread is open to any opinions that do not contravene the talk guidelines; if you do not wish to read particular posts that is entirely up to you of course.

TheHoneyBadger · 14/08/2014 14:50

no john it's not entrenched sides it's that we've literally been having posters join mumsnet purely to post israeli propaganda on this thread from dodgy isps. apologies but after 4 or 5 bannings you do get a bit suspicious Thanks

TheHoneyBadger · 14/08/2014 14:52

and frankly it is a fairly (desperate) human response to think hope that anyone justifying the murdering of the vulnerable in hospitals and schools and homes for the disabled must be part of a propaganda machine because the alternative (to believe that there are normal, usual, mn posters out there who are cool with these actions) is unbearable Sad

somewheresafe · 14/08/2014 15:06

London - yes I condemn Galloway for his comments which state bradford is an israel free zone. He was referring to the boycott of goods but I still don't agree with what he said.

However, despite him being an odious man I am amazed to have agreed with a lot of his other comments relating to this genocide.

SamG - you state tthat there is a lot of evil in that part of world, referring to Iraq Syria etc. How dare you. The biggest evil there at the moment is nutty and his hand of murderers.

If you read the threads you'd know that we are all scared and worried about Syria. But this thread is about israel.

somewheresafe · 14/08/2014 15:06

Oh ffs. Apologies for spelling. I'm on phone.

TheHoneyBadger · 14/08/2014 15:11

tbf somewhere anyone who wants to get pedantic about spelling and typos in the face of mass murder is not on the same planet anyway.

if it's an iphone you're on though you may want to rethink - apparently they're all israeli and proof we can't survive boycotting them.

London girl.. The 'more of them' I was refering to, were the ones who worship power, money and their own sense of self importance. The ones who do not think twice about removing a whole race of people and feel nothing but elation.

Honey badger. I am not religious neither am I atheist. I am also definitely not racist, anti semitic, anti muslim or any other anti however, a hell of a lot of people are. I have followed your posts throughout these threads and can only dream that if everyone on this planet were to think like you what a truly beautiful world this would be. BUT... sadly they don't. There are some people who will never see their psychopathic selves. They will never see they are wrong, be sorry for the horrors they commit or allow others to commit in their name. They cannot be turned only stopped. The video I posted is not anti semitic as the Jews in the video would attest. The video is not about Jews it is about zionists. Search orthodox v zionism and see for yourselves.

BarbarianMum · 14/08/2014 15:16

Londongirl whenever I read that I always think of wife beaters who justify their actions by saying 'she was asking for it'.

That Israel is in a very difficult position is undeniable. But its government have many different options if peace is really what they want. I find it hard to view their current actions as anything other than a delaying tactic as they try and grab more land/water.

SamG76 · 14/08/2014 15:18

somewheresafe - just to get this right - you're saying that despite 170,000 deaths in Syria, 2-3 million refugees across the region, mass killings and forced conversions of Christians and Yazidis in Iraq, mass executions of terrified Sunni and Shia by each other, massacres by the Egyptians of their political opponents, and thousands of deaths amongst total chaos in Libya, the most evil person out their is the Israeli PM. I think I can draw a conclusion from that....

somewheresafe · 14/08/2014 15:20

I hate I phones.

I'm on android. Speaking of boycott there's an article in the times about the petition to boycott Joan rivers next UK tour which is due soon. I was so horrified at her comments. It wasn't that she supported israel that shocked me but the language she used and the horrifying way she spoke about palestinian deaths. Her language was degrading and dehumanised.

I'll be finding the petition and signing it today alongside thousands of others. The support for Israel seems to be dismissing and I'm glad. Lots of people I know started off as massively pro israel but aren't any more thanks to social media, C4, the independent etc. Threads like this help too.
